another vote for benetton sweaters itt

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 10 January 2016 10:59 (ten years ago)

MY FAMILY OWNED BENETTON STORES I'VE SAID IT BEFORE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN the BENETTON LEGACY IS IN MY FAMILY so proud

surm, Sunday, 10 January 2016 15:27 (ten years ago)

Tracer can you tell me more about your Benetton sweater experience? All wool or blend? Are they itchy? I looked at the women's v-necks and my concern is itchiness (I'm normally fine with merino) and the bottom band. I hate when the bottom band is smaller than the body of the sweater and rides up, making the sweater double up over the band, if that makes sense.

Surm I take your family legacy as a plus in favor!

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 January 2016 17:08 (ten years ago)

surm, Sunday, 10 January 2016 17:15 (ten years ago)

ugh now you have me on a mad search for those pictures.

surm, Sunday, 10 January 2016 17:24 (ten years ago)

hah

lag∞n, Sunday, 10 January 2016 17:26 (ten years ago)

We actually have a Benetton store in my neighborhood, which is odd. They seem to only have strange locations in NYC. It's also very small and women only. And I heard it might be closing (maybe even already closed?). But my wife has a sweater from there and it's actually super nice, maybe her nicest one.

I think plan A is going to be ebay or consignment shop for BB. Plan B is to try an Everlane sweater (I think people ITT like them, yes?) Plan C is order a Benetton sweater.

Plan D is you're fired.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Sunday, 10 January 2016 17:37 (ten years ago)

yes i've definitely noticed that their locations are v strange/women only nowadays. i think we got out at the right time.

surm, Sunday, 10 January 2016 17:41 (ten years ago)

quince i can't speak for the ladies' gear but their men's sweaters are super soft (and their v-necks are, gulp, a bit THIN) - no bottom cinching issues that i've noticed

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 10 January 2016 17:48 (ten years ago)

I sent back an everlane knit. It felt cheap for the price and shed a lot in 10 mins of wearing.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Sunday, 10 January 2016 18:21 (ten years ago)

cos sweaters are generally v good at their price point. big fan of their sweatshirts as well.

i had some good luck picking up used pringle of scotland sweaters over the last few years. even with the cost of the occasional repair i dont think ive ever paid over US$50 for one

-san (Lamp), Sunday, 10 January 2016 19:45 (ten years ago)

haha my wife got a pair of overalls

not men's fashion I know but I felt like o had to post, she looks amazing in them, they are not really a thing I would've guessed she would buy but I dig them on her

marcos, Sunday, 10 January 2016 20:29 (ten years ago)

girls generally look great in overalls. i blame dexy's.

rip van wanko, Sunday, 10 January 2016 20:32 (ten years ago)

pringles are great if you can get ones that fit.

haha i was expecting you to tell me about the terrible cultural overtones they carry and embarrass me. agreed that its hard to find (used) ones that fit nicely theyre often bagged out and not in a handsome draped armani model way

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:15 (ten years ago)

they are kinda bad quality ime, tho i haven't had one in a good few years, tend to get misshapen like that

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:19 (ten years ago)

i have one that is kind of batwing it's so misshapen but i wear it at home and it keeps me warm

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:24 (ten years ago)

haha i just kept imagining a generation of prosperous middle managers who begrudgingly came to admit they were no longer a mens medium and so consigned their stretched out cashmere

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:25 (ten years ago)

the fabric is always really nice though

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:25 (ten years ago)

xpost yeah the wool is great quality for sure - i have an ancient one still, not worn in ages but considered selling on ebay recently, it's barely bobbled and must be 10 years old

pringle is p indelibly tied to golf

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:26 (ten years ago)

yeah mine is like 8 ply cashmere, no bobbles, at least 20 years old

too bad it doesn't fit at all and is kelly green :(

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:27 (ten years ago)

it has moth holes but no bobbles!

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:27 (ten years ago)

mine has a huge stain on it, dunno what it is. might try dry clean it. dunno if i'm into argyle diamonds so much now tho, it's kinda oatmeal with red and white diamonds and black lines

xpost

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:28 (ten years ago)

i purposefully bought a few with holes including a really nice cobalt colored cableknit that fit very nicely since theyre usually super cheap and the holes can be repaired quite easily. ive always passed on the argyles though

-san (Lamp), Monday, 11 January 2016 19:30 (ten years ago)

stain dates from your golf raving days surely xpost

I love my wool-cashmere overcoat so much, it's like I'm my own cuddly soft pet.

surm, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 00:40 (ten years ago)

on a whim I kind of want to see if I can find a winter hat in the shape of what i think is called an overseas cap -- it's sort of like the shape of a fry cook hat but furry, I think of it as an old school brooklyn jewish thing.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 03:45 (ten years ago)

any ideas?

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 03:45 (ten years ago)

wearing a jerry garcia necktie today.

gr8080, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 15:37 (ten years ago)

hurting i think lee ave and south williamsburg in general has furry old school brooklyn jewish hat shops aplenty

adam, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 15:41 (ten years ago)

OK, I think I found the kind of thing I'm talking about:

p sure that gr8s is my style antichrist. it's all good tho

r|t|c, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 16:30 (ten years ago)

lol it is a ~limited edition~ slim cotton one (not fat & silky like his other ones) and looks more like a screen-print design than a watercolor one

http://i.imgur.com/AgmmPSC.jpg

but yes, all good ^__^

gr8080, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 17:37 (ten years ago)

that's a p nice Jerry Garcia tie, better than most. The real problem with most Garcia ties is that they were worn by portly boomers and paired with conservative suits that they didn't fit with at all.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 18:09 (ten years ago)

apparently the kind of hat I was thinking of is called an "envoy" or "ambassador" hat. I only like the ones that are leather or other material on top with fur lining/sides, not the all fur ones though. And I can't decide whether it would look ridiculous on me. http://www.hartfordyork.com/product/982?utm_medium=AffLink&utm_content=PJX&utm_campaign=PJX&source=pjn&subid=41543

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 12 January 2016 18:14 (ten years ago)

i used to mess around wearing one of those handed down from my grandfather

gr8080, Tuesday, 12 January 2016 18:14 (ten years ago)

It looks a lot like a traditional Afghan hat which it turns out is called a karakul?
