I just don't know how to wear them with anything other than a dinner suit - the cuffs always feel weirdly thick and why do I want to look like I have thick wrists

a cruet of destiny (seandalai), Monday, 21 December 2015 20:02 (ten years ago)

I was never previously a fan, but this is probably the nicest dress shirt I've ever had and I want to wear it at some point.

what's happening in eyewear these day? i feel like I've been seeing some cool glasses lately, lots of roundish shapes in interesting colors

marcos, Tuesday, 22 December 2015 19:10 (ten years ago)

round has been the thing to go with these days. it has reached its peak. i anticipate a return to form for men, in steel and metals perhaps.

flopson, Monday, 28 December 2015 19:35 (ten years ago)

do you mean like a parka?

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 28 December 2015 19:37 (ten years ago)

uniqlo has some down parkas this year (not the usual shiny italian tourist down jackets they sell). they're all on sale rn.

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Monday, 28 December 2015 20:45 (ten years ago)

just any big warm winter coat, parka incl

thx for the uniqlo tip

flopson, Monday, 28 December 2015 20:59 (ten years ago)

I think this is a really nice parka, if you want to spend that amount. Still kicking myself for not buying the Spiewak parka for $250 last winter.

although I notice it doesn't have angled pockets, which are better for handwarming.

that is really nice

PUBLIC SCHOOL

-san (Lamp), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:20 (ten years ago)

lol i know - it really is at odds with the clothes they make. what does "public school" mean to americans? it's an nyc label i think.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:26 (ten years ago)

it means the opposite of what it means in the uk

lag∞n, Monday, 28 December 2015 22:29 (ten years ago)

same in ireland

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:30 (ten years ago)

public school, written like that, probably is intended to evoke a sense of the unadorned or unfussy, probably streetwear, universal and approachable. its still incredibly stupid maybe actually stupider than the british usage for a company making four-figure waxed-cotton parkas but who cares. excited for the s/s 16 line of my new post-workwear label UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE

*not union made

lag∞n, Monday, 28 December 2015 22:34 (ten years ago)

generally don't like quilted/bubble coats. That's a relatively refined looking one, but not crazy about it.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:35 (ten years ago)

lol

xpost to unionmade

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:35 (ten years ago)

tbf most of what unionmade sells is prob made under decent conditions...

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:36 (ten years ago)

Yeah I think Public School is probably meant to evoke a certain kind of casualness, childhood nostalgia, and maybe slight toughness? But it's also very much in line with lots of American stuff in the last ten years or so that uses a "cheap" sounding name for relatively high pricetag goods/services -- being too cool to unironically act rich, etc.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:38 (ten years ago)

And yeah, public school in America = govt school, not what it is in UK.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:38 (ten years ago)

the uk usage really annoys me. like calling a circle a square.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:39 (ten years ago)

You do realize Trafalgar Square is what we call a traffic circle, right?

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:40 (ten years ago)

there's an actual square there though

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:41 (ten years ago)

and when brits say "nap" they mean wake up

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:42 (ten years ago)

sorry these are really dumb

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Monday, 28 December 2015 22:43 (ten years ago)

some quilted bubble coats are better than others. there is definitely a shiny black bubble coat I've been seeing over the past few years that looks like a goddamned trash bag

marcos, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 00:51 (ten years ago)

yeah caek's "italiian tourist" comment is how i normally think of them, but i have seen some nice ones of late. like maybe not as shiny and not so much "puffa jackets".

in the 90s i remember a lot of girls had these huge full length puffa jackets, they were like sleeping bags - or yeah trash bags, i wonder have they made a comeback.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 09:56 (ten years ago)

i would enjoy it if they did. my first gf had one, along with short hair and big fuck off cyberdog boots. tank girl vibes. she's now a chartered surveyor and could pass for my mum

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 10:32 (ten years ago)

haha - i was about to say yeah, those huge boots. i did a play around 1996 and all the girls in it dressed like this - i think they were copying all saints. props to arsene wenger for keeping the flame alive.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 10:36 (ten years ago)

haha, finally my most shameful boner explained

all saints was def the high street wave but a comeback would also be p much par for the late 90s-early 00s avant fash revival course i suppose, much that's reminiscent, all the shit kanye bites

mnml > military > post-apocalyptic; urban architectural/surveillance; wearable tech = cybercouture; helmut lang, raf, chalayan, all the japanese, cp company, prada sport, final home, vexed, mandarina duck. did we say summat upthread about caarhart wearing superclub djs too?

final home literally did do a coat that turned into a sleeping bag or maybe tent iirc

lol i won that gf over by taking her to the pineal eye on broadwick street, anyone remember that place? (suzy probs)

the fashion school dropout

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 10:51 (ten years ago)

just need the fin haircuts, one strap diagonal backpacks, g-shocks, and twisted levis with massive turn ups back and we're good

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 10:54 (ten years ago)

damn i'm old tho

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 10:55 (ten years ago)

did we say summat upthread about caarhart wearing superclub djs too

this has been mentioned a lot i think. speaking of which i've seen a vague resurgence of bape too.

i guess a lot of 90s stuff has kinda crept back in - i mean some of the trainers are actually just reissues. let's hope acupuncture trainers don't return, at 17 i thought they were the coolest thing. seriously ugly.

however i do have a pair of these now so perhaps the virus is still alive:

xpost haha - the one strap backpacks for sure.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 10:58 (ten years ago)

jamie vardy's kinda verging on the fin come to think of it

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 10:59 (ten years ago)

lovren not far off either

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 11:00 (ten years ago)

arghh yeah lol acupuncture. buffalos were the ones most girls wore i recall now

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 December 2015 11:02 (ten years ago)

yeah there was an actual buffalo shop in dublin - they must have had a brief rise and fall

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 11:11 (ten years ago)

I passed the Buffalo shop the other day and was surprised that it's still there - now it just looks like a boring almost-tasteful shoe shop though.

a cruet of destiny (seandalai), Tuesday, 29 December 2015 13:20 (ten years ago)

i need to go through my closets! i have no room in my coat closet, yet no coats to wear ... the age old problem
