aw I feel bad making fun of these people. they seem so excited about these clothes!

chinavision!, Wednesday, 2 December 2015 20:53 (ten years ago)

Those people are the founder's friends, and I'm more making fun of the idea that these ensembles were meticulously chosen by a personal shopper for a premium price.

these ppl mostly look awful and Dustin from Parker, CO would definitely look better without his Bombfell wares.

cory artangel (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 2 December 2015 22:15 (ten years ago)

if we cd get a "before"-outfit picture of Dustin from Parker, CO that wd be great

cory artangel (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 2 December 2015 22:18 (ten years ago)

Those square-toed slip-ons prominently featured are killing me. Maybe we should poll this.

Kent from Carlsbad CA is probably the best look out of them -- not something I'd rock but it suits him.

finally a subscription shopping service that knows I want to look like a TJ Maxx discount rack

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Thursday, 3 December 2015 14:27 (ten years ago)

a few of their customers had their wives blogs mentioned in the descriptions i clicked through to one of them and it was all just links to various clothing/makeup/etc subscription services lol some weird affiliate marketing loop

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 December 2015 14:50 (ten years ago)

the other two had some regular posts interspersed with links to shit link that

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 December 2015 14:51 (ten years ago)

they didnt seem like blogs anyone read

lag∞n, Thursday, 3 December 2015 14:51 (ten years ago)

yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they got free or discount stuff in exchange for blogging -- you see a lot of marketing loop shit like that with startups.

ty for great article

the late great, Saturday, 5 December 2015 15:13 (ten years ago)

i do not understand hooded garments w/ hoods that are essentially non-functional and do not adequately cover your head or force you to strain your neck while wearing the hood because the fabric is so stretched out. a remarkable number of hoods ime do not really fit well. i'd throw most hoodies into this terrible category as well as a number of rain coats and winter parkas i've tried on over the years. even like "high performance" outerwear like patagonia has like crappy-fitting hoods that are super uncomfortable to wear over my head

marcos, Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:14 (ten years ago)

sounds like a hat is in order

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:16 (ten years ago)

I have a really great looking but functionally awful mountain parka that I literally cannot fit the hood of over my head when it's buttoned/zipped up.

im in a bit of a clothing quandary. I basically have nothing formal I can wear. I generaly wear jeans, norse projects chinos & shirts, various brands' sweatershirts, and our legacy and gitman bro's shirts, so I can pull say "business casual", though not that well, but I want more formal stuff, though not necessarily a suit, but dress shirts and pants, a blazer maybe? im too kiddulty, I basically have nothing id be comfortable wearing to an interview (threw my last suit out as it was too old and worn). I live in Canada and I don't really know where to shop for this stuff, also don't really want to spend a ton of money on the kind of thing I want for practical reasons rather than for the purposes of fashion (I don't actually like the way I look when dressed formally, so shopping for this stuff doesn't bring me joy, but I don't want to look like a dork).

tl;dr.

sweatershirts

oh dear

Karl Rove Knausgård (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:25 (ten years ago)

Was that a long-winded way of saying you need to buy a suit? I don't know Canadian stores very well but I would absolutely say go to a department store with a suit department or to a store that specializes in suits. Do not order online -- it's always hairy to do so even if you know suits, and a terrible idea if you don't. I usually like Nordstrom's suit dept but I have no idea if they exist in Canada or what the equivalent would be.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:28 (ten years ago)

they do exist, thanks! and yeah youre basically right

Karl Rove Knausgård (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:29 (ten years ago)

tbh i kinda took "im too kiddulty" and "I don't actually like the way I look when dressed formally" from that and assumed it was secretly about a deeper malaise than clothes

my advice therefore is we all gotta die someday so enjoy wearing a tie idk

r|t|c, Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:34 (ten years ago)

i don't mind looking kiddulty, just aware that it's not v professional

Karl Rove Knausgård (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:37 (ten years ago)

just buy an our legacy blazer... just basically buy our legacy everything is my advice for all and for always.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:38 (ten years ago)

Tell the salesperson it's for interviews and they'll steer you in the right direction. If you're slim you might like the Boss suits they carry (assuming same brands in canada as US), which are often on sale at reasonable prices and have a sharp contemporary profile. Peter Millar is also a high quality brand with nice cuts that is often on sale there (I think they're made in Canada, actually). Winter/post-Christmas sale is usually a good time to find good prices, but there are always sale suits.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:39 (ten years ago)

Also ask them to help you put together a shirt and tie or two that go with the suit well, or give you ideas at least.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:40 (ten years ago)

I like all of these ideas, thanks.

Karl Rove Knausgård (jim in glasgow), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:41 (ten years ago)

all the brands you cite do formal wear, shirts etc - then go somewhere else and buy one really nice tie, dunno, one good tie will go a long way.

xposts

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:42 (ten years ago)

the norse shirts imo are really well cut and p well priced.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:43 (ten years ago)

or just uniqlo for shirts, if it's a one or two wear scenario. okay that's my info dump done... :)

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:43 (ten years ago)

BTW for standard dress shirts, the Nordstrom brands are all very good for the price (Calibrate, Nordstrom and the premium "John W. Nordstrom" line).

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:45 (ten years ago)

get some dressy garments then leave them in yr closet until they go out of style, repeat, eventually die

lag∞n, Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:48 (ten years ago)

lol otm

marcos, Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:48 (ten years ago)

so many occasions for which i had to buy something dressy, wore it once, now it is ill-fitting and out of style

marcos, Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:49 (ten years ago)

get some dressy garments then leave them in yr closet until they go out of style, repeat, eventually die

haha. never even bother buying a suit for this reason. blazer is the only vague thing you might bother wearing.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Thursday, 10 December 2015 20:58 (ten years ago)

jim do you live in toronto?
