i made an important rigorous cultural sartorial and historical argument against zip hoodies being the ur-hoodie which is like totally a diff thing than drive by douching by ppl who prob think liking clothes is moral failure

sorry for hardmanning but grown adults shouldn't pay $35 for sandals with writing on them

hmm that car coat is nice too -- do you think it would work with a suit? I like that particular navy color a lot but I have too much navy stuff already.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 15:48 (ten years ago)

the discount was just for a week - there was a code. that shop sometimes do free shipping which i guess would make sense if you are in the us. it is really nice - very soft wool and a great cut.

white mountaineering is a great brand btw - is-ness, kapital, minotaur all working jpn labels work that general aesthetic and i like it a lot

car coat is really great, wish they had a gray version

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:04 (ten years ago)

liking these coats itt but upcoming canadian winter means i need something more serious :(

― nerd shit (Will M.), Tuesday, October 27, 2015 11:38 AM (26 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

yea boston is pretty bad, not as bad as canada for sure but a new coat for me will definitely be supplemented with like a fleece layer and a thick sweater or flannel or something else underneath plus scarf hats gloves etc, in the middle of winter we are all just a bunch of layers but at least the top layer will hopefully look good for me

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:07 (ten years ago)

A thick wool coat with a sweater and a good scarf can be surprisingly warm, although I tend to handle winter pretty well anyway. J. Crew also has some of their coats with thinsulate insulation optional.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:09 (ten years ago)

okay i am bummed bc i really like everything about that white mountaineering flannel coat and i am having trouble finding cheaper alternatives that are similar

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:10 (ten years ago)

i go full mfn parka in the deep winter got to have my own ecosystem

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:10 (ten years ago)

^ yeah p much this. i mean i get the layering thing but i do want something i could theoretically throw on top of a t-shirt in a pinch in -32º weather and not die

nerd shit (Will M.), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:12 (ten years ago)

xxxpost I wear that car coat with a suit all the time and it works well.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:13 (ten years ago)

the zipper on my parka broke in feb last year and for the last 6 weeks i was just using the shitty velcro to protect me from the elements, nagd

nerd shit (Will M.), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:13 (ten years ago)

it's quite warm... all I really need for even the coldest days in nyc

chinavision!, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:13 (ten years ago)

yea i do know what you mean xxxp, goose down parka is pretty much the only option for that huh?

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:13 (ten years ago)

Marcos: Maybe ebay a Woolrich hunting coat? It won't have the same shape but it might have a similar super plaid vibe.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:14 (ten years ago)

"all I need" meaning with undershirt, shirt, sweater, gloves, hat of course

doesnt have to be down, i had one of those army ones once that was stuffed w some synthetic stuff and it was v warm, a lot of it is just abt the shape/coverage prob

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:16 (ten years ago)

really cathartic feeling buying knitwear and coats. prob goes back to our ancestral history as trappers.

doing my Objectives, handling some intense stuff (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:18 (ten years ago)

true those army synthetic ones are pretty serious

patagonia did one a few years ago that looked awesome, it was like specifically designed for the army but also sold to consumers, it was a cool coat

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:19 (ten years ago)

xxxto man alive, looking at woolrich website is getting me super excited about winter tbh

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:19 (ten years ago)

ha, was just doing the same, woolrich has some really nice stuff although the nicest is super expensive. Miss the days when it was just a brand and not a "heritage brand"

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:20 (ten years ago)

yea totally, i do have a nice flannel from them that is a little oversized but nice for layering on top, pretty much wear it around the house only though because it does have kind of a pajama feel

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:23 (ten years ago)

also carhartt has a bunch of casual winter coats that i really dig on other folks but ultimately i feel like doesn't work for me, the "workwear" aspect just really makes me feel like i am fronting

a few years ago i bought one of those carhartt hooded duck jackets that like all the construction workers wear and immediately sent it back, add to the list of things i dig on other people but not on me

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:23 (ten years ago)

that carhartt rough canvas material looks great when it is broken-in

marcos, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:26 (ten years ago)

woolrich mountain parka is one of my all time fav garments may have mentioned itt

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 October 2015 16:27 (ten years ago)

engineered garments does a lot of stuff a bit like that but it can be expensive.
