hmm that car coat is nice too -- do you think it would work with a suit? I like that particular navy color a lot but I have too much navy stuff already.

the discount was just for a week - there was a code. that shop sometimes do free shipping which i guess would make sense if you are in the us. it is really nice - very soft wool and a great cut.

yea boston is pretty bad, not as bad as canada for sure but a new coat for me will definitely be supplemented with like a fleece layer and a thick sweater or flannel or something else underneath plus scarf hats gloves etc, in the middle of winter we are all just a bunch of layers but at least the top layer will hopefully look good for me

A thick wool coat with a sweater and a good scarf can be surprisingly warm, although I tend to handle winter pretty well anyway. J. Crew also has some of their coats with thinsulate insulation optional.

okay i am bummed bc i really like everything about that white mountaineering flannel coat and i am having trouble finding cheaper alternatives that are similar

i go full mfn parka in the deep winter got to have my own ecosystem

doesnt have to be down, i had one of those army ones once that was stuffed w some synthetic stuff and it was v warm, a lot of it is just abt the shape/coverage prob

really cathartic feeling buying knitwear and coats. prob goes back to our ancestral history as trappers.

true those army synthetic ones are pretty serious

patagonia did one a few years ago that looked awesome, it was like specifically designed for the army but also sold to consumers, it was a cool coat

ha, was just doing the same, woolrich has some really nice stuff although the nicest is super expensive. Miss the days when it was just a brand and not a "heritage brand"

yea totally, i do have a nice flannel from them that is a little oversized but nice for layering on top, pretty much wear it around the house only though because it does have kind of a pajama feel

also carhartt has a bunch of casual winter coats that i really dig on other folks but ultimately i feel like doesn't work for me, the "workwear" aspect just really makes me feel like i am fronting

a few years ago i bought one of those carhartt hooded duck jackets that like all the construction workers wear and immediately sent it back, add to the list of things i dig on other people but not on me

that carhartt rough canvas material looks great when it is broken-in

woolrich mountain parka is one of my all time fav garments may have mentioned itt

engineered garments does a lot of stuff a bit like that but it can be expensive.
