I have one hooded sweatshirt. it has a zipper. its predecessor had one as well. I will never spend more than $25 inflation-adjusted 2015 USD on a sweatshirt. I always wear an undershirt so I wouldn't have that pullover problem, but putting a hood on a pullover seems like a waste of a good pullover. Hey let's take this adult piece of clothing and put pockets and a hood on it like it's for a second grader! The hell people. Dress your age.

t-shirt doesn't help, it always rides up. my other hand vainly attempting to hold my t-shirt down when peeling up the hoodie, but it always rides up and then not only am i half-naked in the office i'm engaged in this ridiculous, failed exercise in primness when really the room needs to be paying to see this bod

(says man with 22 pairs of converse, who wears them to meetings with white house staffers, whose johnston & murphy dress shoes are under such a layer of dust that they will need the attentions of a paleontologist, followed by the world's best shine boy, if anyone close dies or gets married in a big way)

Tuck it in and wear a belt. Do I need to come over there and give you a clinic?

BTW, this was an excellent article:

I feel proud that my team at the office has followed their leader's example in pushing the federal dress code further towards the mad max doof warrior end of the menswear spectrum.

I just bought one of those fruit of the loom v neck sixpacks and it's hard for me to understand how they could possibly be on a ranked list of anything. They basically feel like ultrathick industrial toilet paper and they are weirdly long, like a good either inches longer than my other undershirts.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Saturday, 10 October 2015 23:26 (ten years ago)

kirkland signature are the best crewneck undershirts for your money. I have some that have lasted me at least a decade at this point - still white all over, no bacon collar, no holes in the pits. Not the softest tees I own but not at all harsh or stiff, either. Ten years+ of washing has gotten rid of the screen printing so I've actually got some that I sharpie'd an X or a T where the "tag" used to be.

BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Saturday, 10 October 2015 23:43 (ten years ago)

im glad to see that in my time away from ilx this i love style thread has shifted its focus to zip-up hoodies and valu-paks of men's undershirts

I need to know what is up about tartan pants though

BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Sunday, 11 October 2015 01:02 (ten years ago)

All I want is a plain black zipless hoodie that fits really well.
Oh and a new coat for winter. Don't really know where to start with that one. I want so many worlds - something smart and classic but also streetwise; warm enough for the freezing cold but not so bulky it takes up loads of room when I take it off; a hood for the wet but also no hood because that's often a letdown, style-wise; something that'll look good on top of other clothes; and most importantly not so expensive I'd need to save til January to afford it.

canoon fooder (dog latin), Thursday, 15 October 2015 17:51 (ten years ago)

yea i need a new winter coat too

marcos, Thursday, 15 October 2015 17:53 (ten years ago)

i hate wearing my "technical" winter coat unless i am at a ski resort or something

marcos, Thursday, 15 October 2015 17:54 (ten years ago)

sounds like maybe you either want a duffel coat (hood) or car coat (no hood)?

i bought some inexpensive dress pants and a brooks brothers shirt on clearance for new job and i'm discovering i secretly love tony conservative dress clothes and power ties, so help me god.

mattresslessness, Thursday, 15 October 2015 18:52 (ten years ago)

give me the TRADITIONAL FIT, thanks a bunch

mattresslessness, Thursday, 15 October 2015 18:54 (ten years ago)

though right now i am wearing this tweed workshirt from the j. crew factory which is a different vibe, smoothed over faux car mechanic, looks like denim or chambray but a little bookier, hey i get dusty at work digging through boxes of video tapes. i'll be doing tie tuesday though.

mattresslessness, Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:01 (ten years ago)

I feel you. In my last suits I bought the regular cut a size down instead of the trim cut in my size and I like the outline/profile of it much better, looks a little more substantial and less wispy or something. And yeah, I definitely get a little charge from the conserivative suit-and-power-tie thing with good, shined dress shoes.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:04 (ten years ago)

BTW can anyone recommend an overcoat, preferably somewhere in the grey range, preferably $200 or less, of the kind to be worn with a suit?

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:06 (ten years ago)

got one of these on ebay NWT for $200ish last year http://www.brooksbrothers.com/BrooksStorm%C2%AE-Long-Town-Coat/010L,default,pd.html?dwvar_010L_Color=BLCK&contentpos=5&cgid=0222

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:22 (ten years ago)

good idea -- how is the sizing, does it run a little large like other Brooks Bros stuff?

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:29 (ten years ago)

right, their shirts are enormous. but i'm a 38 at hip places like suit supply and the BB coat 38 fit me perfectly. i tried on a bunch in the store near grand central to get my size. the one i found on ebay was a 38S so i had the sleeves let out a little.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:30 (ten years ago)

There's a 38S on ebay right now very cheap that I'd consider bidding on. My most recent suits were 38S regular cut, and my others are 40S slim. Maybe it's worth taking a chance on.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:40 (ten years ago)

i'm 5'10" if that helps. the 38S was probably 1-1.5" too short in the sleeves, so not unwearable, but off

anyway, i'm thinking about dyeing my black jeans black because they're not black enough anymore. that's where i'm at, menswear-wise. hi.

gwyneth anger (patron sailor), Thursday, 15 October 2015 20:53 (ten years ago)

christ that dude looks like a nazi xxp, horrible

marcos, Thursday, 15 October 2015 20:57 (ten years ago)

good luck patron sailor

tbh i do like the look of faded black jeans, i bought some black jeans in the winter and they are already much lighter than they used to be and i like the way they look a lot

marcos, Thursday, 15 October 2015 20:58 (ten years ago)

that's a look that says "I've just come here to tell you that daddy has written you out of the will" xp

i am debating what to do w/ my hair, it's been 5 months since i had it cut, it is getting pretty curly and unruly and day-to-day my feelings about it vary. sometimes i love having unruly curly hair but other times it feels shapeless and frizzy. haircuts make me super anxious though, i am almost never happy after a haircut until at least a few weeks out, usually longer, but i am wondering if it is time to do something about it

marcos, Thursday, 15 October 2015 21:01 (ten years ago)

this is why you need to accumulate coats. even a nice coat will become a symbol of drudgery if you have to wear it day in day out.
