pullover is definitely the hoodie of choice for expressing college football fandom, for example

lol dying here

marcos, Wednesday, 30 September 2015 22:26 (ten years ago)

i have four hoodies, two pullover and two zip, both have their place imo but I do notice I tend to wear the zip ones mostly zipped up

one of the pullovers is a supreme hoody made by reigning champ and it is pretty much bulletproof

one of the zip hoodies is a polo ralph lauren basic model, it is also extremely well made and has lasted years and years

i have to disagree with the james perse recommendation -awhile back I was buying a ton of his stuff and all of it fell apart within a year

if you want to talk stupidly expensive try real mccoy's. i have a few of their sweatshirts (not hoodies) and they are pretty much the finest sweatshirts known to man. i have had them for like six years and they pretty much look brand new

the late great, Thursday, 1 October 2015 05:11 (ten years ago)

now i feel somewhat like a jackass for ripping mccoy's, getting into "craftsmanship, consumerism, virtue, privilege, and quality" territory here i fear

the late great, Thursday, 1 October 2015 05:17 (ten years ago)

i have a james perse white tee and i agree the quality isn't amazing. not really bad, and it definitely feels nicer to wear than other tees i have, but after a couple of washes parts of it lost the smoothness. i've yet to find a type of white t-shirt that i can just keep buying, safe in the knowledge it is good fit and quality.

ive been living out of a suitcase for the last few months and am excited to be reunited w the rest of my clothes :)

lag∞n, Thursday, 1 October 2015 16:09 (ten years ago)

i don't like hoodies, wear sweatshirts only. i like reigning champ a lot, though I've never bought any of their t-shrits etc. just the sweatshirts.

and the sweatshirts have lasted well

I'm pretty happy with the Gustin tees for the price btw, although they're a little on the long side for me.

I've been looking at some shops/labels that I usually like and I'm starting to think AW15 just isn't for me. Everything is grey and in some weird material.

pep ponk aliyev (seandalai), Friday, 9 October 2015 23:49 (ten years ago)

Pullover hoodies look OK but they're too much of a commitment. With zip-ups, you can moderate your temperature. In a pullover when I overhear I have to take the whole thing off.

I guess I could pull it up over my belly till I cool off.

je55e otm. i like the couple of pullover hoodies i have but there is always that moment of OK i'm showing everyone my bare torso for a good couple of seconds while i peel it off over my head

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 10 October 2015 20:36 (ten years ago)

I also can't really wear sweaters for the same reason. That's the true tragedy of overheating easily.

Je55e, Saturday, 10 October 2015 21:39 (ten years ago)

I have one hooded sweatshirt. it has a zipper. its predecessor had one as well. I will never spend more than $25 inflation-adjusted 2015 USD on a sweatshirt. I always wear an undershirt so I wouldn't have that pullover problem, but putting a hood on a pullover seems like a waste of a good pullover. Hey let's take this adult piece of clothing and put pockets and a hood on it like it's for a second grader! The hell people. Dress your age.

BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Saturday, 10 October 2015 21:49 (ten years ago)

t-shirt doesn't help, it always rides up. my other hand vainly attempting to hold my t-shirt down when peeling up the hoodie, but it always rides up and then not only am i half-naked in the office i'm engaged in this ridiculous, failed exercise in primness when really the room needs to be paying to see this bod

illegal economic migration (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 10 October 2015 21:51 (ten years ago)

(says man with 22 pairs of converse, who wears them to meetings with white house staffers, whose johnston & murphy dress shoes are under such a layer of dust that they will need the attentions of a paleontologist, followed by the world's best shine boy, if anyone close dies or gets married in a big way)

Tuck it in and wear a belt. Do I need to come over there and give you a clinic?

I feel proud that my team at the office has followed their leader's example in pushing the federal dress code further towards the mad max doof warrior end of the menswear spectrum.

flopson those are nike roshe runs they are very good and cool shoes owned my some ilxors i heard

dead (Lamp), Saturday, 10 October 2015 23:09 (ten years ago)

I just bought one of those fruit of the loom v neck sixpacks and it's hard for me to understand how they could possibly be on a ranked list of anything. They basically feel like ultrathick industrial toilet paper and they are weirdly long, like a good either inches longer than my other undershirts.

on entre O.K. on sort K.O. (man alive), Saturday, 10 October 2015 23:26 (ten years ago)

kirkland signature are the best crewneck undershirts for your money. I have some that have lasted me at least a decade at this point - still white all over, no bacon collar, no holes in the pits. Not the softest tees I own but not at all harsh or stiff, either. Ten years+ of washing has gotten rid of the screen printing so I've actually got some that I sharpie'd an X or a T where the "tag" used to be.

BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Saturday, 10 October 2015 23:43 (ten years ago)

im glad to see that in my time away from ilx this i love style thread has shifted its focus to zip-up hoodies and valu-paks of men's undershirts

I need to know what is up about tartan pants though

BRAAAAAAMETHEUS (El Tomboto), Sunday, 11 October 2015 01:02 (ten years ago)

All I want is a plain black zipless hoodie that fits really well.
Oh and a new coat for winter. Don't really know where to start with that one. I want so many worlds - something smart and classic but also streetwise; warm enough for the freezing cold but not so bulky it takes up loads of room when I take it off; a hood for the wet but also no hood because that's often a letdown, style-wise; something that'll look good on top of other clothes; and most importantly not so expensive I'd need to save til January to afford it.

canoon fooder (dog latin), Thursday, 15 October 2015 17:51 (ten years ago)

yea i need a new winter coat too

marcos, Thursday, 15 October 2015 17:53 (ten years ago)

i hate wearing my "technical" winter coat unless i am at a ski resort or something

marcos, Thursday, 15 October 2015 17:54 (ten years ago)

sounds like maybe you either want a duffel coat (hood) or car coat (no hood)?

same

i bought some inexpensive dress pants and a brooks brothers shirt on clearance for new job and i'm discovering i secretly love tony conservative dress clothes and power ties, so help me god.

mattresslessness, Thursday, 15 October 2015 18:52 (ten years ago)

give me the TRADITIONAL FIT, thanks a bunch

mattresslessness, Thursday, 15 October 2015 18:54 (ten years ago)

though right now i am wearing this tweed workshirt from the j. crew factory which is a different vibe, smoothed over faux car mechanic, looks like denim or chambray but a little bookier, hey i get dusty at work digging through boxes of video tapes. i'll be doing tie tuesday though.

mattresslessness, Thursday, 15 October 2015 19:01 (ten years ago)

I feel you. In my last suits I bought the regular cut a size down instead of the trim cut in my size and I like the outline/profile of it much better, looks a little more substantial and less wispy or something. And yeah, I definitely get a little charge from the conserivative suit-and-power-tie thing with good, shined dress shoes.
