they really need to depict these wallets with the stuff in them like that COMME DES GARCONS SA6400 CLASSIC WALLET doesnt seem wide enough to fit the cash without folding where does it go

xp also, heath ins cards, altho it is not clear to me if i actually need to carry these around, i just do what the sheeple herder tells me

it only really squashes the edge of the cash, and even then only for bigger notes like euros - like your notes won't be like a fine bedsheet or whatever but when you open it up they're basically flat.

it seems p well designed to me, i've never thought "damn i can't put this note in quickly enough"

i agree generally though that bags/wallets never have enough pics. bags especially never have the pics that show you how much stuff you can actually fit in it. some of them don't even have a person holding the bag for scale. i know you can check the actual measurements but it's quite hard to visualise that.

but but it looks like the billfold area is ~twice as long as the card pocket is tall, in this case they are arnged perpendicular w/l to each other where in most walltes they are paralell, and bills are more than twice as long as credit cards are tall

xpost ah it's a little longer than that, there's a bit space in the middle of the two card slots and there's room on the spine which kind of allows you to put the note in easily. the wallet is a little wider than the note i have in it at the moment, a 20 euro note. i guess dollars are kinda wide maybe... ¯\_(ツ)_/

i am definitely part of the blind sheeple when it comes to carrying useless shit in my wallet, i'm embarrassed to even say the contents, like do i really need 5 credit cards plus "buy 10 juices get 1 free" stamp card from my local fresh juice place?

because i don't really know what either poster is saying i can't really take sides but at the same time lagoon i do have to say that "actually it's always been this way" is not 100% a bad rhetorical move and in some cases is pretty legitimate when someone else is saying "hey look at this new recent trend" when the "trend" in question is really just some slight variation on some relatively constant thing. again not sure whether mh's use of this rhetorical move is right here because i don't really know what the fuck either of you are saying

I see what lagoon is getting at with fashion-not-fashion but the borders are so porous idk how useful a distinction it is, esp if you're trying to project this idea into the past where the boundaries of fashion were different (probably, I don't care)

anyway to the extent normcore is a calculated anti-fashion it is imo not that interesting but the ideas about blankness, flexibility etc. were more interesting to me tho both use this idea of blending in

the idea that normcore is calculated is a complicated one. it is, i suppose, on the part of designers. but "normcore" as it relates to the people (aka us) should be about not calculating; or, like, using a calculator, and wearing pleated pants with a plain shirt bc you're in IT. or wearing those clothes anyway bc you just like them.

i'm not sure about that at all. there seems to be a distinct difference between people who deliberately dress normcore and people who just wear whatever.

its tricky bc normcore has taken off as a funny word more than a coherent idea and ppl use it to mean studious wearing of new balances or as a synonym for mnstrm or whatever

i think u cn be normcore w out like critiquing society or w/e but its still gonna he distinct from norm cause of attention to detail/secretly nice expensive clothes

yeah exactly. it's largely 90s retro in disguise. a more subtle, ephemeral take on nostalgia with just the cut of some jeans etc...

noticed there's been a bit of a return to very baggy tops and trousers among the art-skool kids who share my walk to work, but it's not quite the same as 90s baggy, there's something a bit more structured about it. Seems popular with women just as much, possibly more at this stage, and there's a certain kind of loose but cropped jean/trouser cut which I think looks really good - certainly more than the patterned trouser craze which is just dreadful and the worst thing to happen to women's fashion in decades.

and sorry lagoon but pleats are very much on their way back in, norm or not, intentionally or not. they're just going to be back, that's all.

the retro use is the most wack, not sure when normcore as new-branding-ideal to sell to ppl was cribbed for those meme-level ends

I've truly never understood a pleat, i feel like a pleat always looks like they tried to fix a problem where they accidentally made too much pants

in complete honesty i thought it was obnoxious that someone decided to attach a term to the concept of ... wearing clothes. that aren't from Dior. i refused to read the article, and i never will.

i think normcore was initially about the dissolution of clothes-as-identity, fashion-as-personal-brand stuff in the instagram century. in some ways maybe a gucci logo tracksuit is an extension of normcore because its about inverting the brand-identity relationship - subsuming yrself in the logo rather than using the logo to bolster yr identity. clothes are interesting to think abt because of stuff like this but i think clothes for most ppl are generally sort of purposeless - is this warm enough cool enough formal enough nice enough. normcore was abt presenting that as purposeful. idk i liked #normcore but its was always a joke

anyways i gave up on pleats and wide-legged trousers now i just wanna dress like im going mtn climbing.

if you're saying it was about attributing stylistic purpose to that which had none, then i agree with you, but people have been doing that for years. it didn't need a hashtag.

the idea as I understood it w/ k-hole (who afaik coined the term) was more to do with defining a new set of ideals/aspirations etc. for consumers, outlining an attitude to clothes that valued the neutral & mutable & was opposed to exclusivity/niche crap/kitsch

yeah, it's a style that says 'I'm a very busy creative entrepreneurial type and I don't have the time or need to stand out from the crowd'. It's the same wisdom that says the most important person in the room, or the person running the show, won't be making a song and dance about it.

it's a cool little shop - good selection of our legacy stuff and their own clothes are really nice also. though i think there is an our legacy shop in soho too now. oi polloi also have a soho store. tbh tho i buy all my clothes online.
