surm, Sunday, 26 July 2015 17:48 (ten years ago)

very sad. btw right now I am wearing these dope old Patagonia green canvas shorts that are totally rocky mountain hippie wear, I love them

marcos, Sunday, 26 July 2015 19:06 (ten years ago)

I found a blue, faded early 90s north face t-shirt which has been my fave summer tee, kinda has that vibe

rip van wanko, Sunday, 26 July 2015 19:21 (ten years ago)

one of the biggest trends in fashion over the last decade: standing out to those in the know, blending into everyone else

this has always been a thing, especially when $$ edgy fashions are always subsumed into the mainstream, accelerated by the quick uptake these days

like no one bats an eye at somewhat technical gear but u will get head nods from those in the know for stone island projects or acronym or w/e

Upright Mammal (mh), Sunday, 26 July 2015 23:04 (ten years ago)

omg "this has always bee the case in fashion" [uses non fashion contemporary example]

i will say as a counterpoint that not too long ago it was common practice for high end fashion lines to literally cover their garments with logos

lag∞n, Sunday, 26 July 2015 23:15 (ten years ago)

i fuckin love a logo like my brother that i never had, put em all out there

surm, Sunday, 26 July 2015 23:20 (ten years ago)

logos r good its true

lag∞n, Sunday, 26 July 2015 23:22 (ten years ago)

there are so many things in life which are beyond our control, what we wear is a small good thing that we can decide each day.

The decision of what to wear every day is a chore for me, but I like to feel well-dressed. This article was inspiring, but I feel like wearing the exact same thing every single day would be too eccentric http://www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/features/a10441/why-i-wear-the-same-thing-to-work-everday/

But I've been buying multiples of certain items so I can have a few "uniforms" and reduce decision making somewhat.

rip van wanko, Monday, 27 July 2015 01:39 (ten years ago)

I couldn't pull it off, nor would I want to I guess, but I did spend like a solid 3 minutes just looking at it

rip van wanko, Monday, 27 July 2015 01:41 (ten years ago)

thank you. my Grandmother had the original women's design back in the 80s. it is one of the most beautiful signature prints.

surm, Monday, 27 July 2015 01:45 (ten years ago)

It's a very nice bag, beautiful even, but it kind of looks like "I am a dandy and I attend Princeton University. Unfortunately my driver was unavailable and I had to take the amtrak home for the weekend."

great bag imo

call all destroyer, Monday, 27 July 2015 02:06 (ten years ago)

idk pretending that expensive-ass clothing that are very much archetypes for other clothes aren't "fashion" smdh

it's like claiming "streetwear" and boutique versions of such aren't, just classist euro-centered garbage argument IMO

*dons $1k non-"fashion" jacket*

Upright Mammal (mh), Monday, 27 July 2015 02:13 (ten years ago)

waved a little magic wand at the "could Rick Owens be the next Polo" article to make it so

Upright Mammal (mh), Monday, 27 July 2015 02:14 (ten years ago)

there will forever be the cycle of lapel size, single- versus double-breasted, pleated or not, cuffed or not, button-down or open, ties or bow ties or w/e, but dismissing all fashions that aren't "oh do these white sneakers or boat shoes or loafers or socks vs. no socks" as somehow a better argument over other things...

Upright Mammal (mh), Monday, 27 July 2015 02:20 (ten years ago)

also confused by lagoon using my uncommon example to show this is widespread among many fashions to argue against his own point?

Dick Cheney's shoes:

Cheney has been a longtime Johnston & Murphy customer, but recently found it necessary to make a personal visit to the store because his shoe size changed to a size 10EEE. Cheney selected the Lasalle wingtip loafer in brushed mahogany. He also bought a pair of shoe trees to keep his 10EEEs in top shape.

johnston and murphy would have been my guess

chinavision!, Monday, 27 July 2015 03:23 (ten years ago)

btw mh I'm not sure what you're talking about. did someone make a case for expensive normie fashion as not-fashion? I think everyone agrees actually. all is fashion.

chinavision!, Monday, 27 July 2015 03:25 (ten years ago)

yeah i'm not above looking like a princeton undergrad, if i feel like it

i mentioned that u used a contemporary example too!

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 05:50 (ten years ago)

in fact your entire example arguing against my point completely conformed to my point except that it was niche outdoor gear which is not really that representative of anything

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 05:53 (ten years ago)

all is fashion.

idk is walmart fashion, i guess its fashion of its own fashion, but i guess basically obvs just like not what i was talking abt

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 05:55 (ten years ago)

walmart can be fashionable of course

surm, Monday, 27 July 2015 06:14 (ten years ago)

He wasn't disagreeing with you at all, quite the opposite, all he was doing was reinforcing your ahrument but giving another example.

I guess Margiela era Margiela is kind of the ultimate example of the clothing for those in the know trend.

im not like that passionate abt this argument and yet i cant let go lol, he was agreeing that its like that now but saying its always been like that, then just offered an example of it being like that now, and it was an example from a niche purveyor in a niche corner of the industry

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 12:55 (ten years ago)

when of course my argument was that the gnostic aspect of fashion is particularly trending particularly trending now

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 12:58 (ten years ago)

and of course u cn say fashion has always had an in the know quality which im sure is true i mean it didnt have zero % in the know quality but my point was not that zero in the know quality existed before but rather that it is particularly dominatnt know

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:00 (ten years ago)

anyway the dismissive actually its always been that way is one of my least fav rhetorical moves can u tell lol no offense anyone

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:03 (ten years ago)

aren't you guys just talking about normcore again?

(no offence to people) (dog latin), Monday, 27 July 2015 13:05 (ten years ago)

normcore is def an advanced aspect of the phenomenon

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:07 (ten years ago)

but its a lot wider than that too

lag∞n, Monday, 27 July 2015 13:07 (ten years ago)

is it more dominant than when every man wore a grey suit and a hat and the weight of your wool and the width of your lapel indicated whether you were in or out?

List of people who are ready for woe and how we know this (seandalai), Monday, 27 July 2015 13:25 (ten years ago)

again i was talking abt the unwritten language of fashion fashion rather than the clothes every single person wears, and in fact what i was talking abt was the relationship between fashion and less rarified clothing, feel like you all could easily understand this if you chose
