I got the Tarte maracula concealer and it is fabulous :)
The saleswoman was like "only use it under your eyes because the colour is slightly too light for blemishes" and I was thinking a) agh ok I'll do that bc I don't want to buy two tubes just bc I'm slightly tan right now, and b) nah I'm going to use it sparingly on my face like I saw in a YouTube vid about the "no makeup makeup look"which I have tried and it looks good! Requires proper blending and a bit of powder but good.

I don't want to admit this out in public on fb but I totally tried cleavage contouring a few weeks ago, inspired by drag race. I am too pale to even use bronzer though so it didn't look right. Plus in general it isn't right.. ;) but I thought it might be fun for a "sext" to my husband. I will probably try again

i tried contouring my cheeks but i looked like i had just finished working under a car
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 18:40 (ten years ago)
oh yeah my cheek contour game is super weak too. I use highlighter for neutral eyeshadow, so..

<3
Cleavage is something I've literally never given a thought to. My boobs are sorta far apart so it's not something I've ever had or ever will. I've never contoured anything and I'm def not starting with my tits but I think it's amazing that you have, L. <3
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 19:11 (ten years ago)
heh. What can I say? :D I love boobs, mine especially!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 19:21 (ten years ago)
That didn't look right in the article about it so I think it would have been tough to pull off irl.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 19:26 (ten years ago)
But perfect for "sext"s! Is there a word for sexy shots you text to your partner? I don't know which is why I keep typing "sext" like a Grandma (the quotes are to indicate I would never use this word IRL..)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 20:33 (ten years ago)
lol I was scrolling down through that contouring link to see what steps followed 'drawing on fake boobs with a pencil' and was surprised to see that there weren't any

Srsly. I have an odd combo of oily and flaky (thanks to retin-A), and it is NAGL with sooooo many foundations.

WOOOO got the Smashbox CC spot concealer I've been wanting. I even submitted to the Smashbox counter person putting some makeup on me, and it looks pretty good, so I bought the CC cream foundation, too. Fancy!
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 23 July 2015 20:49 (ten years ago)
yay new makeup! When I get another big girl job my first purchase is the SBX eyelid primer; I miss that stuff.
After searching unsuccessfully for plain, no sparkle brown eyeshadow I finally gave up and bought this on a whim: came last night, probably full of all sorts of nasty chemicals which hopefully won't make my eyebrows fall out.. but it's the perfect shades for my eyebrows!! http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00KHKTRGQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

I've been meaning to update this thread with a LIPSTICK ALERT for weeks now: Rimmel The Only 1 lipstick is fucking amazing! It doesn't dry my lips out, it comes in great colours, it stays on my lips for hours - and it's cheap! It does have a bit of a perfume-y smell when you first apply it but that wafts away. So far I've bought two but will be getting more. TIP.

I was just thinking I would like a new lipstick! Was gonna hit MAC but would like to save some $$
― mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Saturday, 13 February 2016 15:49 (ten years ago)
yeah it's funny because a few days before I bought the Rimmel lipstick I'd bought a Bite $ lipstick that I all honestly i couldn't afford but was such a great matte red. And then I got the great Rimmel red, the texture of which is much easier on my lips.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 13 February 2016 17:58 (ten years ago)
I'm all about finding super cheap gems these days. I will totally rep for Wet n Wild ColorIcon eyeliner in 'Pretty in Mink' which you can find for $1 at your local drugstore. Smooth application and just a perfect color.
― It's dummy on dummy crime (sunny successor), Monday, 15 February 2016 15:48 (ten years ago)
i am taking note of that! My eye game is so minimal and same-y and i never buy new eye stuff (haha cause yknow i need to constantly update my ridiculous lipstick collection instead)but i also have really sensitive eyes, so i think that generally turns me off doing more with my eyes because i don't want to suddenly be walking around with red watery eyes :/
i went to sephora today to return a facewash that caused my face to go flakey and red for a tragic week (a couple of weeks ago, almost better now, I resorted to a few days of hydrocortison) and it turned out i'd bought it exactly a month ago, phew. anyway, when I was returning it, i noticed a display next to the register announcing that Kat Von D makeup was now at Sephora Canada. And I totally did a mega femme Oooooh you have kat von d now yaaay! But I only looked at the makeup briefly and buy anything bc i was in a hurry, but NEXT TIME

i splurged on the 6 color hour glass ambient lighting palette last xmas and i loooove it
― just1n3, Friday, 19 February 2016 05:04 (ten years ago)
ooh that looks really nice. i don't think we have that brand at sephora in canada but i'll look next time i'm there! i think colours like that would work for my eyes - most brown shades make me look washed-out and tired, just doesn't go with my skin tone, so i tend to go for a really dark brown smudged liner or a black cat eye, plus black mascara and a medium-brown eyebrow pencil. yeah pretty minimal. i should one day when i have time just sit down at the sephora make-up counter and let them give me a "natural eye" or whatever and see what happens (haha...)
i got the hot pink rimmel lipstick this morning after dropping my toddler off at daycare - bc i had to get diapers and toilet paper and kleenex and saline drops and all of that is NO FUN and obv requires lipstick purchasing! it's more of a berry colour on and i love it. i mentioned my new find to a lipstick-loving colleague yesterday and she said she might try it but probably not because she is just that devoted to MAC! if every MAC lip product didn't dry my lips out like crazy i might be too, so many colours...
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Friday, 19 February 2016 15:23 (ten years ago)
I wear make up every day but it's like a uniform and not fun at all. Everyone at my work now is different kinds of terribly unstylish, in all different ways--or at least not my style--and I forgot how to have fun with everything except shoes; I have great shoes now because I walk so much.
Maybe I'll go to Sephora later to kill some time on this quiet Friday.

I'm in love with this garish dark red glitter eyeshadow because it's so pigmented that you can see it in the light of a dark room. It's like "nighttime look" makeup, my favorite!! For work I keep it light and/or colorful.

― La Lechuza (La Lechera), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:58 (ten years ago)
It's my 1 expensive makeup but I do quietly wish I had more colors. I've got an orange eyeshadow from a different brand that's fun for summer.

i also would like to have more opportunities to wear it but that's another issue, lol
i need that in my life
― Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 19 February 2016 19:19 (ten years ago)
my face tends to look pretty tired and washed out in its natural state, so wearing some basic makeup makes me feel a lot more confident. but i work solo all week and half the time i can't be bothered putting in the effort on the weekend either.
i REALLY like owning nice makeup tho, i don't even care if i never wear it. i've got all this fancy charlotte tilbury and besame stuff on my gift wishlist bc i really don't want to spend money on it.
― just1n3, Friday, 19 February 2016 20:31 (ten years ago)
my holy grail is a true blue red lipstick - every red i've tried looks pink on my lips and it drives me crazy.
― just1n3, Friday, 19 February 2016 20:32 (ten years ago)
My other forum is a makeup/skincare forum. I haven't bought much new tbh but I'm more confident in knowing what I'm looking for and getting samples. I had this amazing bronzey glittery eyeshadow that I wore to a party and it looked ace, but I tried it in the day and with my super-pale skin I looked really ill :(
― kinder, Friday, 19 February 2016 21:28 (ten years ago)
true blue red is a tough one! as i recall, MAC has at least one. blue-red goes with my skin tone really well too - but since i've gone blond, a whole new spectrum of reds has opened up to me. not going to try for true orange-red tones though; that'll never ever work on me...

ooh I saw a foil effect eyeshadow by stila today, looked amazingly dramatic but I put some on my finger and it turned into glitter that went *everywhere*. could be awesome with careful application though.
the forum is from the website of Guardian beauty columnist Sali Hughes, it's mainly v.sensible feministy women.
