haha yes!
I feel like irl that much makeup MAYBE looks ok from far away but it must be really gross up close.
Also . . .

Well that's something.

I bought fancy hand cream at a store this weekend and the whole experience was so ridiculous. The saleslady immediately came running up to me with a cup of tea and kept telling me how happy she was to be able to consult with me about my needs. She kept doing this little bow thing and the whole experience made me SO uncomfortable. When I bought my handcream she packaged it in a reusable drawstring cloth bag (ok that part was cool) and then sprayed it with some kind of essential oil! lol. I extended my hand to grab the bag and she jerked it back and instead it would be her pleasure to end my experience by walking me to the door. The whole thing was just so fucking awful and pretentious and phony. I know there must be people who fall for this shit but I can't imagine how insufferable they must be. In the plus side, my hands are the softest and smell divine.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:04 (ten years ago)
xpost - It looks impressive in pics but I just can't imagine that looks ok and not caked on irl. I can't imagine applying a layer of lipstick and then a layer of full coverage concealer under my eyes.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:05 (ten years ago)
Yeah, the up close thing! Like in that last video the woman said she was going out to lunch (that's her summer lunch date look...) and like, honestly, I would find it very distracting to sit across a table with someone wearing so much makeup.
Oh I feel like a judgey bitch. I'm sorry, youtube vloggers! You do you with your concealer triangles and two different foundations at the same time
xo holy shit what store was this??? I like a little obsequious customer service now and then, but I'm talking like, how they always wrapped my $10 clearance rack shirts at tissue paper in Marshall Field's, not misting my purchases with essential oil.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:06 (ten years ago)
I would totally think that was distracting. Also, how does that not melt right off her face? I think my face just sweats more than other people's.
Oh man - I just checked the paula's choice thing and the pretentious place gets horrible ratings on there but this stuff smells so good and I am a sucker for nice packaging/design. http://nymag.com/thecut/2013/12/best-bet-aesop-resurrection-aromatique-hand-balm.html I may reorder it online one day but I honestly don't think you could pay me to go back into an actual store. I'm also not above that kind of customer service (why I love Nordstroms even though I can hardly afford anything there) but this was way too OTT.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:16 (ten years ago)
I saw that red lipstick thing a while ago. I mean, I wear green primer and foundation to cut the redness so I guess that might work? But yeah, it must feel gross. red tinted under eye concealer?
― smoochy-woochy touchy-wouchy, (sunny successor), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:24 (ten years ago)
The day I put red lipstick under my eyes you will know that the real me is gone
― La Lechera, Monday, 6 July 2015 18:34 (ten years ago)
i don't get how that stuff doesn't all melt off or just crack or whatever. when i got my wedding makeup done, i was horrified - in the mirror it looked so heavy and awful and blah, but in photos it looked like i had hardly any on, so i would like to see some of these women in person and see how these makeup looks translate to IRL.
― just1n3, Monday, 6 July 2015 19:12 (ten years ago)
i bought nars sheer glow foundation this weekend, kinda on a whim and bc the bloomingdales saleswoman was really nice. it is def not sheer though - i used two pumps (which is about a quarter of pea) and it was way too much for my face. this stuff is really pigmented. when she put it on me, it looked really glowy and sheer but i guess i'm just not doing it right??
it is also BULLSHIT that this foundation costs 45$ and then you have to pay an extra 6$ for the pump.
― just1n3, Monday, 6 July 2015 19:15 (ten years ago)
Hahahaaa yes

That sales experience is crazy, ENBB. I can barely deal with it when the salesperson comes out from behind the counter to hand me my bag.
Haha but like carl I do get some pleasure in having my 70%-off plain cotton underwear or super sale tshirt tissue-paper wrapped and placed in a bag even though I usually refuse bags.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Tuesday, 7 July 2015 01:27 (ten years ago)
I'm curious about the Nars foundation now! I like super pigmented stuff but yeah it's totally about the application - did she use a brush or a sponge? I actually own a foundation brush. I just use tinted moisturizer now because I've (temporarily?) given up figuring the whole thing out.

I just watched the guerriero vid and I don't know why I bother being shocked but I'm shocked that she looks like a very pretty girl going to third period English class and it took all that to look "well-kempt and pretty" and she STARTED with perfect skin and conventionally beautiful features.
― Orson Wellies (in orbit), Tuesday, 7 July 2015 01:59 (ten years ago)
enbb I had a lowlevel similar thing happen at L'Occitane
bought some perfume & soap, not a gift just for me in ended up being like rowan atkinson in Love Actuallydude literally *flourished* a piece of red tissue paper, walked out from behind the counter over to the perfume section, sprayed a tester of the perfume i bought onto the tissue paper while waving it in the air like a ribbon dancer, then flourished again before putting it *just so* into a tiny bag smaller than my hand
i was like oh that's not really... um...necessary? O_o
l kinda wish he had crushed some dried lavender between his wrists tho

xp to robyn: i'm gonna play with it and see what works best. the lady just used her fingers, since it's supposed to be warmed up in your hands. i tried it today, mixed with my sunscreen, and applied with a fake beauty blender and it was okay - took the white cast out of this stuff i'm currently using. tomorrow i'll try mixed with moisturizer. i don't want a heavy base, or to even use it all over my face, really just around my cheek area where i have a lot of redness and sunspots that give my skin a really uneven look and drag down my face (which is already on the long side).
― just1n3, Tuesday, 7 July 2015 02:54 (ten years ago)
i asked ytth how it looked and he said 'good but a bit shiny' and i replied 'shiny-oily or shiny-glowy bc there is a difference' which i then had to explain and he decided that it looked shiny-glowy.
― just1n3, Tuesday, 7 July 2015 02:56 (ten years ago)
"bought some perfume & soap, not a gift just for me in ended up being like rowan atkinson in Love Actually"
VG this is exactly what I thought of when she sprayed the bag! lol.
At one point she asked me what my desired "skin feel" was and I was like "Um, uh, what are my options?". It turned out she was asking if I preferred a matte or dewy finish. Why couldn't she have just said that?!
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Tuesday, 7 July 2015 09:58 (ten years ago)

I got the Tarte maracula concealer and it is fabulous :)
The saleswoman was like "only use it under your eyes because the colour is slightly too light for blemishes" and I was thinking a) agh ok I'll do that bc I don't want to buy two tubes just bc I'm slightly tan right now, and b) nah I'm going to use it sparingly on my face like I saw in a YouTube vid about the "no makeup makeup look"which I have tried and it looks good! Requires proper blending and a bit of powder but good.

I don't want to admit this out in public on fb but I totally tried cleavage contouring a few weeks ago, inspired by drag race. I am too pale to even use bronzer though so it didn't look right. Plus in general it isn't right.. ;) but I thought it might be fun for a "sext" to my husband. I will probably try again

Cleavage is something I've literally never given a thought to. My boobs are sorta far apart so it's not something I've ever had or ever will. I've never contoured anything and I'm def not starting with my tits but I think it's amazing that you have, L. <3

That didn't look right in the article about it so I think it would have been tough to pull off irl.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 19:26 (ten years ago)
But perfect for "sext"s! Is there a word for sexy shots you text to your partner? I don't know which is why I keep typing "sext" like a Grandma (the quotes are to indicate I would never use this word IRL..)
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 15 July 2015 20:33 (ten years ago)
lol I was scrolling down through that contouring link to see what steps followed 'drawing on fake boobs with a pencil' and was surprised to see that there weren't any

WOOOO got the Smashbox CC spot concealer I've been wanting. I even submitted to the Smashbox counter person putting some makeup on me, and it looks pretty good, so I bought the CC cream foundation, too. Fancy!

yay new makeup! When I get another big girl job my first purchase is the SBX eyelid primer; I miss that stuff.
After searching unsuccessfully for plain, no sparkle brown eyeshadow I finally gave up and bought this on a whim: came last night, probably full of all sorts of nasty chemicals which hopefully won't make my eyebrows fall out.. but it's the perfect shades for my eyebrows!! http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00KHKTRGQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

I've been meaning to update this thread with a LIPSTICK ALERT for weeks now: Rimmel The Only 1 lipstick is fucking amazing! It doesn't dry my lips out, it comes in great colours, it stays on my lips for hours - and it's cheap! It does have a bit of a perfume-y smell when you first apply it but that wafts away. So far I've bought two but will be getting more. TIP.
