xposts i need prescription sunglasses which has forced me to take care of them

i'm going to sound really wanky rn be warned, here goes, there is a place in london that will make custom sunglasses for you. you can show them a picture. you can draw it. you can describe what shape screws they should have. anything. so when i lost my expensive pair of prescrip wraparound shades i went to them, with a photo of myself wearing the ones i'd lost, and said "i want those". long story short, they never could get them quite right. we went through like 3 different prototypes. they were always too wide, they couldn't get the curvature narrow enough (i have a narrow head). it took months. so they said we're sorry, we couldn't do it, so take any pair of glasses you want in the whole shop. so i did !!!!!! and now i have the raddest glasses in the world, probably (they are selfridge's own brand shades from the 1970s.) and i take fucking good care of them. they ALWAYS go in the case. even if i'm wearing tight jeans and no bag, the case comes with me.

also thank u but i did this and got "the girl" who does not have a hat, i guess i am destined to be hatless.

it's only a matter of time before fedoras are the cutting edge of high fashion so I'd advise getting in ahead of the curve

jed_ i have no idea these days, when they tried to make my wraparounds they were still in the dabbling/experimental phase of making their own stuff. their main business was (and may still be) dead stock vintage frames, often sourced from moldering european warehouses, never worn. they even came across a huge cache of old acetate slabs used for stamping out frames one time, already colored and patterned. their higher end vintage stuff was like 200-250 from what i remember. my daily wire frames are from about 1910 and cost me 90. the guy who runs it is from glasgow actually! his name's fraser. he's really nice and will talk your ear off about the history of glasses design, why it sucks now and why all frames look the same (luxottica is a big villain).

oh, I wonder if i know him? thanks for the info, I'll definitely check them out next time i'm down. i payed around £250 for my current frames anyway.

I have a lack of short-sleeved options for the summer. Never been too hot on polo shirts, myself as I have a large chest and a stoop, so the whole fit is out.

T-shirts can work if combined properly with the right jeans/shorts/jacket, but my staple places for these kinds of things (TK Maxx, Uniqlo, H&M) seem to sell the cheesiest logo-iest things, and again the fit is really important. I can't be dealing with ill-fitting baggy things, or Ts that ride up too high and threaten to show my midriff/beer-belly.

Short sleeved shirts are tricky too, but I found a great dark-blue short-sleeved button-down safari-style shirt last year but I wore it to death.

I need something quick though - the two weeks of UK summer are here and it's sweltering!

the cotton jersey t-shirts from american apparel are pretty great for a basic t-shirt. the material is reasonably nice and fits well w/o being too nouveau bro tight

the gap always have good and cheap t shirts also. i like pockets tees.

tbh if you're in england you should just buy some of those international feel t-shirts

for me. cuz the shipping is always super prohibitive

I'm weird about pocket tees. I have one at home, but again big chest/moobs, a pocket makes me feel more self conscious for some reason. I have one nice one that's just grey with pencil thin black lines going across. I find with a lot of Ts that the cheapest ones last a lifetime whereas the ones I really like seem to shrink/disintegrate/get out of shape after two washes.

dog latin, j crew "broken-in tees" are really great if you like the colors they are offering this year (i wasn't a fan, i really like olive/tan/sage natural colors w/ my brown skin and they weren't selling any this year)

i really like the white v-necks. for some reason they are a lot softer/thinner/stretchier than the crew necks. that's perfect for me because i pretty much only wear t-shirts under shirts in the winter.
