a good hat can change your life

, Friday, 26 June 2015 18:28 (eleven years ago)

a good hat can be the best friend you ever had... or yr worst enemy

lag∞n, Friday, 26 June 2015 18:33 (eleven years ago)

hats in the winter are obv very essential if you live in a cold climate and i really love them then

i've never been a summer hat person but i admire them on others. my brother and his wife run a small family farm in OH and they wear these cool wide-brimmed gardener's hats and i really love them but i've never felt comfortable wearing them

ditto for baseball caps, i'd like to wear one here or there but never felt like they are "me"

marcos, Friday, 26 June 2015 18:38 (eleven years ago)

whatever the hats thatre in the bucket hat family but have bigger flatter brims are called kinda feeling those

lag∞n, Friday, 26 June 2015 18:40 (eleven years ago)

xposts i need prescription sunglasses which has forced me to take care of them

i'm going to sound really wanky rn be warned, here goes, there is a place in london that will make custom sunglasses for you. you can show them a picture. you can draw it. you can describe what shape screws they should have. anything. so when i lost my expensive pair of prescrip wraparound shades i went to them, with a photo of myself wearing the ones i'd lost, and said "i want those". long story short, they never could get them quite right. we went through like 3 different prototypes. they were always too wide, they couldn't get the curvature narrow enough (i have a narrow head). it took months. so they said we're sorry, we couldn't do it, so take any pair of glasses you want in the whole shop. so i did !!!!!! and now i have the raddest glasses in the world, probably (they are selfridge's own brand shades from the 1970s.) and i take fucking good care of them. they ALWAYS go in the case. even if i'm wearing tight jeans and no bag, the case comes with me.

jed_ i have no idea these days, when they tried to make my wraparounds they were still in the dabbling/experimental phase of making their own stuff. their main business was (and may still be) dead stock vintage frames, often sourced from moldering european warehouses, never worn. they even came across a huge cache of old acetate slabs used for stamping out frames one time, already colored and patterned. their higher end vintage stuff was like 200-250 from what i remember. my daily wire frames are from about 1910 and cost me 90. the guy who runs it is from glasgow actually! his name's fraser. he's really nice and will talk your ear off about the history of glasses design, why it sucks now and why all frames look the same (luxottica is a big villain).

transparent play for gifs (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 28 June 2015 12:29 (eleven years ago)

oh, I wonder if i know him? thanks for the info, I'll definitely check them out next time i'm down. i payed around £250 for my current frames anyway.
