i only just started using blush ffs
Blush has usurped mascara as my must-wear make-up - it's like instant awake face

I finally got a new tube of tinted moisturizer w spf at aveda yesterday (20% off day!) and got a bright light pink lipgloss (minty!) too because it's actually fun make-up from aveda - who knew! Lol such earth tones, cannot deal. But they're changing their make-up line to include fun colours, the salesperson told me!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 13 June 2015 18:26 (eleven years ago)
Then I went to sephora and felt kinda old but hey. Got a First Aid Beauty "spring skin savers" kit because i wanted to splurge and try their serum and the kit was only $20 more but included like $60+ more worth in products. We shall see what my face thinks.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Saturday, 13 June 2015 18:29 (eleven years ago)
(I did all this with a baby on me, which was kind of part of the I feel old feeling. But whatever! As if I ever wore a tonne of fancy make-up or went to sephora all the time before having a baby anyway! There were just a lot of 20-something's there wearing a lot of makeup on their smooth clear skin)

The cashier at Ulta was rocking a lavender ombre lipstick look and... it looked fantastic. Granted, this was Ulta so the baseline is different but somehow it didn't look out of place on her at all. Pretty impressive.

which way did the ombre go?

Yes! Just like that, but with a darker purple on the outside down to a light lavender in the middle. Really pretty.

is there a separate thread for skincare or does that all go in here

suncream, zits and wrinkles: rolling skincare thread?

Have we talked about good under-eye concealer that doesn't cause every wrinkle to seem 10x deeper than it is? Or some kind of magical temporary firming + moisturizing cream? The thing is, I have pretty sensitive eyes and skin so most under-eye creams suck for me :/ But not sleeping enough (because baby) and aging is taking its under-eye toll...
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 29 June 2015 13:44 (ten years ago)
This bee venom cream is pretty magical. It seems to have gone up in price though :/ They also do a cream that is specifically for under eyes, but I haven't tried that - I just use the moisturizer under my eyes.

I'm always on the lookout for something similar, too. Right now I go back and forth between Paula's Choice and Loreal True Match, which both seem fine. I did come across a technique that's helpful for avoiding the whole "concealer settling into fine lines" tragedy, which is to dot on the concealer and blend with your finger, then gently pull the skin under your eyes taut and use a concealer brush to make sure you've got the product evenly applied. Then set the whole shebang with powder. That seems to work really well.
I am on the lookout for this intriguing looking Smashbox 24 Hour CC Spot Concealer - http://www.smashbox.com/product/6035/35610/Face/Foundation/24-HOUR-CC-SPOT-CONCEALER/NEW/index.tmpl - but I can't find it anywhere. That's not for under eyes but looks like a good bet for blemishes/spots in the slimy humid summer months.

I'm super on the lookout these days, guys. LOOK OUT.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 29 June 2015 13:53 (ten years ago)
The Tarte Creaseless Concealer is the only one I've used for years now. It's amazing. It's very thick so you only need to apply the tiniest amount which means a tube will last forever. I just got a new one but I swear I had the other for nearly a whole year. Compared to other concealers it really doesn't crease (at least on me). I love it so much.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 29 June 2015 13:55 (ten years ago)
The coverage is also really good. I have pretty bad dark circles no matter how much sleep I get etc. and this helps so much.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 29 June 2015 13:57 (ten years ago)
Oh that looks good!
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 29 June 2015 14:19 (ten years ago)
Smashbox eyelid primer is really good for dark circles and spots ime! When I had unlimited access to the stuff I basically used it all over my face.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 29 June 2015 15:19 (ten years ago)
It looks like that Smashbox CC concealer is only available though HSN... I have decided that all of my problems will be solved through the combination of that blemish concealer and the Tarte under eye concealer that E recommended why are they not both available at Ulta and/or Sephora this is ruining my life.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 29 June 2015 15:31 (ten years ago)
Ooh I will check out the Tarte because I know they have that at sephora!
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 00:13 (ten years ago)
I just bought some Tarte amazonian clay pressed finishing powder bcz hey why not
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 00:32 (ten years ago)
I am not an enormous fan of the finishing powder tbh. I bought it for the first time maybe a month or so ago and I wish I'd returned it. You might have a diff experience but I felt like it made my face white and chalky.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 19:17 (ten years ago)
yeah i am gonna return it - cakey & makes my face feel tight, not a fan
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 1 July 2015 23:15 (ten years ago)
Well I just bought the concealer. Also learned from the Smashbox sales rep at Macy's that the 24-hour concealer is coming on July 22.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 2 July 2015 01:28 (ten years ago)
I hope you like it - I know everyone is different. You really do only need the littlest bit. I'd say start with what seems like hardly any and if you need more then add it. I use my ring finger to apply but I'm sure a brush would be great too.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Thursday, 2 July 2015 09:34 (ten years ago)
returned the tarte powder & got the clinique redness solutions powder. it's yellow! but hasnt irritated my face so far, seems v mild & ok
weird to be back on the clinique train again, but hey whatever works
― difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 2 July 2015 21:43 (ten years ago)
First, ENBB, I love that concealer so far. It's sufficiently moisturizing that I don't end up with dry skin but not so greasy that it settles into the fine lines. good stuff so far.
Second, I need to talk about how these people are putting on undereye concealer way the hell down their faces:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7FAPDGkhK8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yR3-4iCAof8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5fvip5ii6s (I'm talking about the undereye concealer there, not whatever she's doing with the contouring or highlighting, which is some next level shit)
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 6 July 2015 16:30 (ten years ago)
Also it's amazing how the last woman looks at least ten, maybe 15 years older after she's done with her makeup.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 6 July 2015 16:35 (ten years ago)
Also I'm definitely having some mom-ish "Oh honey you look so much prettier without all that stuff on your face" reactions that I am trying really hard to keep in check.
Haha me too tbh but mostly I'm like "that looks like it takes so much time!" But I have never had that much makeup on my face so who knows. I've never worn contouring or bronzer-as-contouring either! Cheekbone city! It is likely I will never go there though.
― obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 6 July 2015 16:50 (ten years ago)
Yeah, same with the whole "summer daytime look" involving about six times more foundation than I have ever worn at once ever in my life, including my own wedding and like, having professional photos taken. But I'm assuming you don't get a major youtube following for a "get ready with me" video that involves slapping on sunscreen, under eye concealer, chapstick, and sticking a barrette in your hair to get your bangs out of your damn face (speaking of I need to make a hair appointment stat).
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 6 July 2015 17:01 (ten years ago)
That last one has so much make up on it makes me sad. She looks like a drag queen.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 17:46 (ten years ago)
And an entirely different person than the first shots sans makeup. That's just so strange to me. I'd feel really uncomfortable walking around like that. It does, however, make me wonder what I'd look like if a really good MUA went the whole 9 yards on me just once for shits and giggles.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 17:49 (ten years ago)
And Carl YAY! Oh, I'm so glad. I was worried you wouldn't and then I'd have felt bad.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 17:51 (ten years ago)
Are they doing the concealer in triangles down their cheeks? That's apparently a thing now because putting it in the circles somehow highlights them. Idk. Again, I think I'd feel like I had too much on my face.
Did you see the thing with the lady who used red lipstick to camouflage her circles? That was wild.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 17:53 (ten years ago)
Oh no, I wouldn't have wanted you to feel bad. We must take recommendations at our own risk.
I'd be interested to see what I looked like with that much makeup/contouring on but judging from my response to having bridesmaid makeup done a few times, it would probably not last more than ten minutes before I had to take it off. Wearing that much makeup would make me feel like I had clothes on my face.

xp I started to watch a video on that but the person was really annoying and didn't finish. I'll go dig one up though. I think there are like 1,000,000 on youtube rn.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 6 July 2015 17:57 (ten years ago)
haha yes!
I feel like irl that much makeup MAYBE looks ok from far away but it must be really gross up close.
Also . . .

I bought fancy hand cream at a store this weekend and the whole experience was so ridiculous. The saleslady immediately came running up to me with a cup of tea and kept telling me how happy she was to be able to consult with me about my needs. She kept doing this little bow thing and the whole experience made me SO uncomfortable. When I bought my handcream she packaged it in a reusable drawstring cloth bag (ok that part was cool) and then sprayed it with some kind of essential oil! lol. I extended my hand to grab the bag and she jerked it back and instead it would be her pleasure to end my experience by walking me to the door. The whole thing was just so fucking awful and pretentious and phony. I know there must be people who fall for this shit but I can't imagine how insufferable they must be. In the plus side, my hands are the softest and smell divine.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:04 (ten years ago)
xpost - It looks impressive in pics but I just can't imagine that looks ok and not caked on irl. I can't imagine applying a layer of lipstick and then a layer of full coverage concealer under my eyes.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:05 (ten years ago)
Yeah, the up close thing! Like in that last video the woman said she was going out to lunch (that's her summer lunch date look...) and like, honestly, I would find it very distracting to sit across a table with someone wearing so much makeup.
Oh I feel like a judgey bitch. I'm sorry, youtube vloggers! You do you with your concealer triangles and two different foundations at the same time
xo holy shit what store was this??? I like a little obsequious customer service now and then, but I'm talking like, how they always wrapped my $10 clearance rack shirts at tissue paper in Marshall Field's, not misting my purchases with essential oil.
― from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:06 (ten years ago)
I would totally think that was distracting. Also, how does that not melt right off her face? I think my face just sweats more than other people's.
Oh man - I just checked the paula's choice thing and the pretentious place gets horrible ratings on there but this stuff smells so good and I am a sucker for nice packaging/design. http://nymag.com/thecut/2013/12/best-bet-aesop-resurrection-aromatique-hand-balm.html I may reorder it online one day but I honestly don't think you could pay me to go back into an actual store. I'm also not above that kind of customer service (why I love Nordstroms even though I can hardly afford anything there) but this was way too OTT.
― Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:16 (ten years ago)
I saw that red lipstick thing a while ago. I mean, I wear green primer and foundation to cut the redness so I guess that might work? But yeah, it must feel gross. red tinted under eye concealer?
― smoochy-woochy touchy-wouchy, (sunny successor), Monday, 6 July 2015 18:24 (ten years ago)
The day I put red lipstick under my eyes you will know that the real me is gone
― La Lechera, Monday, 6 July 2015 18:34 (ten years ago)
i don't get how that stuff doesn't all melt off or just crack or whatever. when i got my wedding makeup done, i was horrified - in the mirror it looked so heavy and awful and blah, but in photos it looked like i had hardly any on, so i would like to see some of these women in person and see how these makeup looks translate to IRL.
― just1n3, Monday, 6 July 2015 19:12 (ten years ago)
i bought nars sheer glow foundation this weekend, kinda on a whim and bc the bloomingdales saleswoman was really nice. it is def not sheer though - i used two pumps (which is about a quarter of pea) and it was way too much for my face. this stuff is really pigmented. when she put it on me, it looked really glowy and sheer but i guess i'm just not doing it right??
it is also BULLSHIT that this foundation costs 45$ and then you have to pay an extra 6$ for the pump.
