Old timey leather gloves had buttons which usually had to be buttoned using a button hook. I don't know if you carried a button hook with you or just never removed your gloves in the course of the day. The confusing thing is that that illustration seems to be from after those times.

I'm sick of carrying my phone, wallet, keys, rolling baccy in my pockets all the time. Dare I say it, I need a *ugh* 'man bag'. Not sure whether to go for a full-on satchel or something more discreet. I'm curious - how do you all deal with carrying day-to-day stuff around?

i won't carry anything in my back pocket - first way to get back ache from sitting down irregularly. My phone has an additional battery which makes it very bulky. I seem to have a lot of keys, all of which I need. Yes, I thought about quitting smoking.

xp ziploc bag full of almonds that's been in the bag for three months...

i already bring a commuter backpack to work anyway. handy for storing a waterproof/umbrella/jumper and reading material but sometimes I can't be arsed.

i agree that ppl who carry things in their back pockets are likely completely insane

get a cool square backpack

or a car and just put all yr garbage in the back seat

bring back those really tech-y cargo pants and put everything in the cargo pockets. first put them in ziplock bags though

much as i don't miss combat trousers, those extra pockets were always useful.

get a girlfriend, commute together, put everything in her purse

wear jesus style robes that have some nice big pockets discretely sewn in there

If you want a bag get a backpack because if it's not a backpack you'll have to carry it in your hands and won't be able to roll your precious cigarettes.

Just look at your clothes and buy a backpack that is basically the same as your clothes, otherwise you'll look like a dork whose parent/grandparent got them a bag.

alternately dont carry any of that stuff except yr keys - great way to save money is never having any on you to pay for things, help you with quitting smoking, create a sense of suspense with friends and colleagues and family 'where is he? why does he never answer his phone? can he really be so busy?' &c &c

Our daughter turned 20 and we purchased the small for her and had it monogrammed as well. It was a perfect gift from Dad, she has grown into quite the fly fisherman! She was thrilled.

this is me. like "of course i should bring the hundred thousand songs of milarepa w/ me i might have to wait in line somewhere!"

you really do need to carry a jacket everywhere in chicago until like mid-summer

always need a book for my commute, might have other paper documents, therefore need a bag. the point of a bag imo is having stuff in it that you might only need from time to time - ie tissues, hayfever medicine, paracetamol, umbrella. plus bags are cool.

I embarassingly was confronted with "Iowa, isn't that the state where you can have your drivers license on your phone now?" and I had to clarify that system is not in place yet and also I had to shake my head because wtf does everything have to be on my phone

xp yeah my work laptop bag permanently houses a very unread copy of slouching towards bethlehem "just in case"
