i'm looking for a new base - cc cream, bb cream, whatever - so i went to bareminerals and jesus christ i know they make women who work in makeup stores pile it on, but how does management think this is good for sales?????

the woman who helped me was clearly very beautiful - but it was hidden under the heaviest, most garish, unblended, cakey, awful makeup (including clumpy mascara). my first thought wasn't 'this person doesn't know how to apply makeup' but rather 'i would never buy this brand of makeup'. i see this in sephora and mac all the time. it's so bizarre to me! it makes no sense!

anyway i got a couple of samples so.

(oh and makeup store lighting is doing no one any favors, but particular not to anyone wearing super heavy unblended stuff - why haven't they come up with lighting that truly mimics daylight?)

just1n3, Sunday, 26 April 2015 03:08 (eleven years ago)

well I tried that bb sunscreen aforementioned & it is good under foundation. provides so little tint it's basically a regular sunscreen. however it still stings like a thousand cut onions in your eye so there's that

pilate is my cogod (Crabbits), Monday, 27 April 2015 00:26 (eleven years ago)

i think makeup store lighting is like casino lighting, eg you forget what time it is and spend way more dozens of dollars than u planned, or at least that's my excuse

pilate is my cogod (Crabbits), Monday, 27 April 2015 00:28 (eleven years ago)

ok this bare minerals stuff is shit, i don't why ppl rave about it! i tried it a bunch of times, a bunch of ways, and it just made my skin look dry and flaky.

just1n3, Monday, 4 May 2015 21:06 (eleven years ago)

I got a makeover w that makeup and it was a complete horror show. I looked like Baby Jane.

Florianne Fracke (La Lechera), Monday, 4 May 2015 21:28 (eleven years ago)

you know the only thing i use it for? CONCEALER. with a small brush it is perfect for blemishes that are hard to cover up with liquid.

surm, Monday, 4 May 2015 21:42 (eleven years ago)

i have a couple of healing spots right now, and it onlyl served to emphasize the dry crinkly skin around them!

just1n3, Monday, 4 May 2015 21:52 (eleven years ago)

i got a deluxe sample of IT cosmetics byebye undereye concealer - not bad, altho i don't use it around my eyes since i wear glasses anyway. ridiculously pigmented.

just1n3, Monday, 4 May 2015 21:53 (eleven years ago)

just one more tip RE: the healing spots: what i do is moisturize the area in question well first, and then apply a small dusting of mineral powder in my shade to conceal. it works like a charm for me. but this is only for spots that my liquid concealer cannot cover, and obv everyone's skin is so different!

surm, Monday, 4 May 2015 21:57 (eleven years ago)

update: benefit gel eyeliner was a bust. havent been able to apply it effectively since the first two times i used it. lame

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 4 May 2015 22:37 (eleven years ago)

omg i finally got my benefit highlighter back

i swear i saw a picture once without it and i didn't recognize myself

surm, Monday, 4 May 2015 22:47 (eleven years ago)

this is my fave eyeliner lately – got it in some ulta 'too many tarte eye products for $30' pack
http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-lights-camera-lashes-precision-longwear-liquid-eyeliner
i have never been able to get liquid eyeliner right & this has a long & slim enough tip i can get my tightlining act perfect (or perfect enough)

pilate is my cogod (Crabbits), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 01:14 (eleven years ago)

this may be a totally dumb question, but why use liquid eyeliner instead of pencil?

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 02:20 (eleven years ago)

it's easy to get a more defined/bolder/thinner line

IN THEORY

pilate is my cogod (Crabbits), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 02:23 (eleven years ago)

To get perfect edges/lines on yr winged cat-eye effect? Idk how I would even do that with a pencil.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Tuesday, 5 May 2015 02:49 (eleven years ago)

my hands are so shaky that liquid is like a fantasy 4 me

i need a pro to do it

surm, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 03:33 (eleven years ago)

I like the stila eyeliner pen - just like a Sharpie with a brush tip and it stays put.

kinder, Tuesday, 5 May 2015 07:59 (eleven years ago)

that sounds really nice actually. i've never really tried brush tip. i want to go more goth this summer.

surm, Wednesday, 6 May 2015 13:47 (eleven years ago)

am going to investigate jane iredale bb cream on monday. mineral formula supposedly rosacea friendly, good coverage etc.

i still like the peter thomas roth cc cream that i have been using the last couple of years. it's v calming, feels so nice early in the day. but it's more like a tinted moisurizer or a sheer foundation. corrects my color but not enough coverage. think i am ready for a change

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 9 May 2015 23:59 (eleven years ago)

the IT cosmetics concealer seems to be pretty good at red coverage - it's insanely pigmented, i used 1/8 of pea-sized amount to cover practically my WHOLE face (under eye, cheeks, chin, sides of mouth). i think the color i have is too dark tho.

just1n3, Sunday, 10 May 2015 01:25 (eleven years ago)

oh oh oh i've started shaving my face! after i read the comments in a millihelen article. i think i have a totally normal amount of fine short blond face hair, it's totally invisible... until i put on makeup.

just1n3, Sunday, 10 May 2015 01:26 (eleven years ago)

Just shaving? I pluck some of my very blonde moustache sometimes but that of course hurts like hell.. I am intrigued. I have become SO hairy! Super blonde and invisible but it drives me insane

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 10 May 2015 01:35 (eleven years ago)

yes! fresh razor tho, to avoid any irritation. makeup goes on a lot better.

just1n3, Sunday, 10 May 2015 02:46 (eleven years ago)

I'm intrigued! Don't know if I can take the plunge - year long stubble mishap in my youth (classmate told me to shave off my hairline's baby hairs)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 10 May 2015 02:47 (eleven years ago)

it's a myth that it grows back thicker or darker - it seems thicker bc it's all growing at the same speed once you shave. and if it does grow back thicker or darker, it's hormonal and not related to shaving.

i've lost some interest in makeup and now fully obsessed with skincare (taking it to the skin thread tho).

just1n3, Sunday, 10 May 2015 02:50 (eleven years ago)

am a bit wary of the IT cosmetics concealer: citrus oils & fragrance make me worried that it would break me out right away. but I have read good things

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 10 May 2015 02:52 (eleven years ago)

ahh that's a good point!

just1n3, Sunday, 10 May 2015 03:04 (eleven years ago)

fragrances are a big red flag for me, flare-up + breakout city every time

i tried something else with citrus oil & it burned like crazy, i've been leery ever since

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 10 May 2015 03:11 (eleven years ago)

my friend has been doing vitmain E oil at night, it would be awful on my skin but it is phenomenal on her

surm, Sunday, 10 May 2015 03:24 (eleven years ago)

i really just don't think i can wear mascara anymore. i inevitably get racoon eyes.

but i need to find my lash curler

surm, Sunday, 10 May 2015 03:41 (eleven years ago)

Lash curler + clear mascara is a nice alternative esp if your lashes are already dark.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Sunday, 10 May 2015 13:08 (eleven years ago)

yea, i was thinking that too. i've done it before and it is sweet. do you have a preferred clear mascara?

surm, Monday, 11 May 2015 14:53 (eleven years ago)

I like this Elf dual sided mascara/brow gel because I find that clear mascara gets really gross really fast and this is cheap and comes in a small tube so you've got a fighting chance of being able to use it all up before you get too grossed out to use it.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Monday, 11 May 2015 15:40 (eleven years ago)

yea! that's true. thanks!

surm, Monday, 11 May 2015 16:16 (eleven years ago)

To get perfect edges/lines on yr winged cat-eye effect? Idk how I would even do that with a pencil.

― Orson Wellies (in orbit), Monday, May 4, 2015 7:49 PM (1 week ago)

sharper pencil? shorter pencil? idk i can do it with a pencil when i try

Mistah FAAB (sarahell), Monday, 11 May 2015 18:29 (eleven years ago)

TO get it really precise I think liquid or gel is needed

Benson and the Jets (ENBB), Monday, 11 May 2015 19:03 (eleven years ago)

pencil is the only thing that works on my skin tone without having a makeup artist in tow. but i do a p good subtle pencil. you can barely notice it, it just brings out the brown a little more.

surm, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 00:13 (eleven years ago)

jane iredale bb cream is pretty great! def evens out my skin & gives great coverage.
will need to practice applying so i dont look quite so halloweeny lol

they sold me a dermatologica green tinted primer too which is p nice

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 13 May 2015 02:06 (eleven years ago)

i bought this covergirl gold slightly shimmery eye shadow cream -- it's actually quite nice if you use it subtly

surm, Wednesday, 13 May 2015 16:09 (eleven years ago)

i feel like crying. 2 days of wearing this jane iredale & now my face is hot and prickly and. want to claw it off

back to the drawing board fffffuuu

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 13 May 2015 23:47 (eleven years ago)

Boo. Jane Iredale is an asshole.

from batman to balloon dog (carl agatha), Thursday, 14 May 2015 00:13 (eleven years ago)

mineral makeup just doesnt like me :/

the worst part i had to buy it from a beauty boutique that doesnt take returns on cosmetics and this shit was $$$

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 14 May 2015 00:56 (eleven years ago)

such a scam

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 14 May 2015 00:57 (eleven years ago)

argh. You could prob sell it as "used twice, bad reaction" on eBay or whatever to someone who is a Jane Iredale makeup lover

I use some other mineral makeup (Mineral Hygienics) that I've probably talked about before and it doesn't bother my skin. I really just use their translucent powder (it has enough colour to even my skin tone out) and their super pigmented blush these days, but have tinted powder and eye makeup too. I guess I read about them on a rosacea forum years ago because otherwise I'm not sure how I would have come across them. Also their logo is awesomely 80s.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 May 2015 02:54 (eleven years ago)

I tried a sample of bare minerals and the escentuals (?) one once and my face itched and burned, so obv not all mineral makeup is alike... :/

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 May 2015 02:55 (eleven years ago)

I should be wearing more than spf 15 tinted moisturizer but what would I use? Everything seems to be a skin destroyer for me. I can only use non-chemical sunscreens, yet even so their formulations are usually full of crap. Summer face veil it is...

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Thursday, 14 May 2015 02:58 (eleven years ago)

bare mineraks made me itch too, like really tiny little allergic bumps

bizmuth i think can cause some reactions, or so i hear

the ebay idea is good, i might try that
