haha - i basically bought a pair of black jeans and my whole rule crumbled away. i am wearing all black right now.

As I think I said upthread, I'm now interested in trying out some more dulcet colours and monochromes, but I think wearing black takes a bit of work. It can be extremely stylish and edgy if done right or you can end up going into heavy metal D&D nerd territory. Kind of determined to find out how to swing more to the former, but as I don't have much black/white in my wardrobe as it is, it might be hard.

On a similar tip - leather jackets C/D and also, if classic, then what should a geezer look out for? I've seen some on people that look great but the cut and quality of ones I've seen (new and s/h) seems to vary a lot. Cheaper/secondhand ones look especially awful, like big ugly biker jackets.

everyone's wearing those fjallraven rucksacks in London now. Nice-looking, but my dorky, practical Swiss-mark commuter backpack works best for me.

not great at describing, but there's a kind of unstructured black suit senior-graphic-designer-from-the-1990s look that I quite like, but I suspect caek's point about needing good fabric is crucial to it working (and it's probably never for me because as per upthread, celtic complexion).

Leather is a great fabric for black for sure

i feel kinda liberated tbh but i work at a "design school" so everyone here is either very consciously assembled or very consciously not

haha yea i work in academia and most people are very much not consciously assembled

I'm wearing a shirt with a navy/black/grey grid pattern

on leather jackets, asos is a good option if you don't want to spend 1k and you can't find anything good second-hand (pretty much impossible as far as i can tell, in london or online)

i got a leather bomber there last year for £150 - it's pretty good quality, seems to be wearing well.

maybe cheaper than that actually. they have good bikers too - i kind of like them but i feel if i wore a biker jacket it would signal midlife crisis (even more than the rest of my behaviour and hobbies)

good call on ASOS. yeah, so it's the style of jacket that i'm unsure about. and yeah, avoiding a MLC look is the tricky bit.

I didn't have this thread bookmarked and just caught up on like a year of stuff

I just purged a bunch of old/poorly-fitting stuff from my closet. Between not being a mid-20s dude who has the body of a teenager (lol) and realizing I was buying medium shirts when very few medium shirts fit me now (got too swole, I guess, and I've always had disproportionately long arms) I am going to be doing some shopping.

I should just embrace my people and go health goth, right

I can never tell if I'm one of those people with less color perception than average or more, all I know is that colors are diff for me :/

the slim fit seems good, nice normal fit, i think they've got the skinny fit if you want something more aggro but for most ppl the slim fit should work well. i had no desire to tweak the legs or taper or anything, just needed hemming. this fabric in particular is so light and soft it stretched in the waist after just 3-4 wears so def worth trying to find a size that will be snug on you initially. heavier denim may vary in that department.
