๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:08 (eleven years ago)

which is related to 1)

๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:09 (eleven years ago)

actually, my evening suit move is a charcoal suit with a black tie. so it's not true that black does not go with anything or that i own no black.

๐” ๐”ž๐”ข๐”จ (caek), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:09 (eleven years ago)

i used to share that weird if i think p common phobia of black clothes then i got over it and def wear more black now than i ever have to express the darkness of my soul its good theres nothing to fear really

rational_skull_collector_69 (lagโˆžn), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:10 (eleven years ago)

yeah, for a few years i wore no black because i thought it doesn't go with things, but now i wear it a lot because (a) all black is a great look and (b) black does go with other things, the black/navy thing is a myth.

i am kinda dubious about the rest of the black suit criticism.

I own a lot of black t-shirts (faded black metal t-shirt is an obvious classic)

Mostly band shirts

Black tee and black jeans is a very good outfit for someone of my complexion and hair color

I like the color black

In conclusion

Black

้พœ, Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:17 (eleven years ago)

what is the black/navy myth that they dont go together? they do go great together tho which is i guess why its a myth

rational_skull_collector_69 (lagโˆžn), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:18 (eleven years ago)

if you're pale a black suit can make you look sallow - does not work with my complexion until I've had a good bit of sun.

woof, Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:20 (eleven years ago)

yeah it's one of those dumb things people say - of course they go together!

i guess if i was worried i'd look like a waiter i wouldn't wear a black suit

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:21 (eleven years ago)

IME most waiters wear plaid...............................................

้พœ, Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:22 (eleven years ago)

love pairing navy & black wow how crazy r ppl out their w their rules

rational_skull_collector_69 (lagโˆžn), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:22 (eleven years ago)

was going to say blackphobia might be most salient for those of an Irish complexion though I'm not sure what lg's strategy is here

kriss akabusi cleaner (seandalai), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:33 (eleven years ago)

I don't think there's any way for me to wear all black and not look like a reanimated corpse

kriss akabusi cleaner (seandalai), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:33 (eleven years ago)

ah i look like a reanimated corpse whatever i wear

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:35 (eleven years ago)

pale skin/black clothes aka the reanimated corpse is an extremely classic look iirc

rational_skull_collector_69 (lagโˆžn), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:37 (eleven years ago)

i do not have pale skin fwiw

rational_skull_collector_69 (lagโˆžn), Sunday, 8 March 2015 00:37 (eleven years ago)

max, Sunday, 8 March 2015 12:30 (eleven years ago)

like black navy AND cobalt

could say the same for like idk greys/taupe/putty, beige/acorn/ochre, etc

r|t|c, Sunday, 8 March 2015 12:53 (eleven years ago)

thought some of that fourpins content might be interesting on the face of it (like the japanese shops thing) but then post click it seems to just be p ignorant poochie styled aggregator slop mostly

r|t|c, Sunday, 8 March 2015 12:58 (eleven years ago)

my default casual outfit lately is black jeans and a black hoodie but while they are black neither are REALLY black, more like charcoal for sure. I am not anti black and I think others can wear black v well but caek is otm in many respects, especially about black fabric looking cheap

marcos, Sunday, 8 March 2015 13:54 (eleven years ago)

Which is why faded and worn-in and broken-in black actually looks good IMO bc then it becomes charcoal. Fair to say tho that this only applies to casual clothes like denim or something. A faded black suit is nagl obv

marcos, Sunday, 8 March 2015 13:56 (eleven years ago)

black clothes are cool but a black suit makes you look like diplo

adam, Sunday, 8 March 2015 14:24 (eleven years ago)

i never wear black clothes, because i prefer navy and have lots of navy stuff, since it doesn't go with black i don't buy many black items. dunno if everyone has this choice.

this is my big sartorial change in the last while, i've explained as much upthread. fascinating news.

thought some of that fourpins content might be interesting on the face of it (like the japanese shops thing) but then post click it seems to just be p ignorant poochie styled aggregator slop mostly

the main point of it is the jon moy daily run-downs of an item of clothing. most of the rest is fairly hard to take.

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Sunday, 8 March 2015 21:32 (eleven years ago)

navy t-shirt + black jeans is one of my core looks

flopson, Sunday, 8 March 2015 21:43 (eleven years ago)

I was always told navy clashed with black but it's pretty much the only non-black/grey/brown color I f/with.

brimstead, Monday, 9 March 2015 03:43 (eleven years ago)

I don't like faded black so much, makes me feel all dingy and "street"

brimstead, Monday, 9 March 2015 03:44 (eleven years ago)

like crust punk... or dorky hand-me-down rural. idk

clothes, man

brimstead, Monday, 9 March 2015 03:46 (eleven years ago)

sorry LG i couldn't resist

maybe some seasons navy looks good with black.. and some seasons it doesn't, such are the mysteries of fashion

haha - i basically bought a pair of black jeans and my whole rule crumbled away. i am wearing all black right now.

Junior Dictionary (LocalGarda), Monday, 9 March 2015 14:24 (eleven years ago)

love the dinginess of faded black tbh

marcos, Monday, 9 March 2015 14:39 (eleven years ago)

As I think I said upthread, I'm now interested in trying out some more dulcet colours and monochromes, but I think wearing black takes a bit of work. It can be extremely stylish and edgy if done right or you can end up going into heavy metal D&D nerd territory. Kind of determined to find out how to swing more to the former, but as I don't have much black/white in my wardrobe as it is, it might be hard.

On a similar tip - leather jackets C/D and also, if classic, then what should a geezer look out for? I've seen some on people that look great but the cut and quality of ones I've seen (new and s/h) seems to vary a lot. Cheaper/secondhand ones look especially awful, like big ugly biker jackets.

got my canada goose expedition parka and my fjallraven rucksack.. mountain climbing? No im going to sit in front of a computer for ten hours

้พœ, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 12:08 (eleven years ago)

everyone's wearing those fjallraven rucksacks in London now. Nice-looking, but my dorky, practical Swiss-mark commuter backpack works best for me.

nuumerykah (dog latin), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 12:10 (eleven years ago)

not great at describing, but there's a kind of unstructured black suit senior-graphic-designer-from-the-1990s look that I quite like, but I suspect caek's point about needing good fabric is crucial to it working (and it's probably never for me because as per upthread, celtic complexion).

woof, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 12:27 (eleven years ago)

Leather is a great fabric for black for sure

้พœ, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 12:33 (eleven years ago)

im constantly tempted to burn my wardrobe and rebuild it entirely in black

max, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 13:14 (eleven years ago)

in honor of this thread i am wearing black jeans, navy sneakers, brown belt today

adam, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:16 (eleven years ago)

i wear brown birkenstocks w/ my black jeans everyday, dgaf

marcos, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:25 (eleven years ago)

i feel kinda liberated tbh but i work at a "design school" so everyone here is either very consciously assembled or very consciously not

adam, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:28 (eleven years ago)

haha yea i work in academia and most people are very much not consciously assembled

marcos, Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:32 (eleven years ago)

I'm wearing a shirt with a navy/black/grey grid pattern

five six and (man alive), Tuesday, 10 March 2015 15:33 (eleven years ago)

on leather jackets, asos is a good option if you don't want to spend 1k and you can't find anything good second-hand (pretty much impossible as far as i can tell, in london or online)

i got a leather bomber there last year for ยฃ150 - it's pretty good quality, seems to be wearing well.
