y'all are quite anti a black suit i seem to recall?

got a couple of weddings this year and am considering getting a black blazer cos i wear a lot of black and would prob wear it separately afterwards, therefore justifying the purchase. i feel like it can be quite a good look but is it too formal or something?

The traditional gripe is that black is for funerals and tuxes idk

theres something culturally abt the black suit thats pretty douche and "gq list of 10 menswear must haves" but i dont think it necessarily looks bad and prob no ones going to judge u for it, if u like it and feel comfortable in it then imo do you, cld also go for a darker near black navy tho

yeah maybe the weird thing about it is it does look pretty formal but ppl dont wear it that way like they often wear them casually like w/o a tie like its just a suit m8, which i mean fair enough

i bought a very dark charcoal suit that might as well have been black but i returned it, not cause of the color cause it didnt fit

black suits got pretty popular fast and therefor are maybe going out of style fast too? worth considering

i wld get a nice charcoal suit personally instead

bit bored of navy or blue suits and i already have a grey blazer, but it's very heavy. prob will just go for it

btw i just got invited to a wedding and i was just thinking abt getting a new suit so i was primed

really like dont need one was thinking tho maybe just a cheap light nice cotton one, i have a cotton summer suit already but its higher qual/looks just like a regular suit but its weather appropriate for summer, but i like a nice unstructured super casual summer cotton suit i like those, had one once and it was good

would you ever go for a more bold colour? i saw a nice red/burgundy suit but it's prob a bit try hard.

imo better to go conservative, then u can have fun w the accessories if u want

I've gotten out of the habit of wearing suits to weddings unless I know it's going to be a formal/conservative affair. Bright-coloured chinos + fun shirt + sensible jacket is m/l my festive uniform.

+ tie and/or pocket square

going back here but my theory is someone decided black suit/white shirt/black tie was a way to look casual/dressed down at formal events. it's so bad tho.

i just checked and i own literally no black clothing fwiw, so i am clearly an extremist but...

1) black fabric looks cheap unless it's really really not, whereas, e.g. charcoal does not

2) black doesn't really go with anything except white or more black

3) black suits had a moment and look v dated rn

4) historically black suits are for waiters, doormen, etc. or to be worn at funerals. the rule is bs of course, but it is a real thing, and so 99% of the time a black suit signals "i don't know what i'm doing, this is my first suit, i thought black was the default colour", not "i am an iconoclast"

I have a black t-shirt and some socks, I think that's it.

i have a fair amount of black clothing and i disagree that it doesnt go with colors but i cld see a black suit not really going with colors maybe tho i am p dubious of this whole theory

i used to share that weird if i think p common phobia of black clothes then i got over it and def wear more black now than i ever have to express the darkness of my soul its good theres nothing to fear really

yeah, for a few years i wore no black because i thought it doesn't go with things, but now i wear it a lot because (a) all black is a great look and (b) black does go with other things, the black/navy thing is a myth.

i am kinda dubious about the rest of the black suit criticism.

Black tee and black jeans is a very good outfit for someone of my complexion and hair color

what is the black/navy myth that they dont go together? they do go great together tho which is i guess why its a myth

if you're pale a black suit can make you look sallow - does not work with my complexion until I've had a good bit of sun.
