leg hole being too big is an awful feeling

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:52 (eleven years ago)

to be a blazer guy you have to start wearing them with t-shirts for casual occasions and that just looks kind of weird imo, at least i could never pull it off

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:53 (eleven years ago)

what the oldest piece of clothing u all own that gets any sort of regular burn

i have some sweaters that i was given in high school i still wear. just basic crew neck sweaters in plain colors (black, charcoal and navy). my grandmother used to send me stuff every sept when i was starting school and i wish i knew where she got them cuz theyre really well made and super warm. they arent really that fitted but theyre not quite 'boxy' either.

other than that i have a couple of pairs of shoes and a blazer that date from like 2005 that i still wear.

I have some shiny Nike shorts from high school. 20 years old.

Jeff, Monday, 23 February 2015 17:08 (eleven years ago)

ha wow

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 17:11 (eleven years ago)

I am continually shocked that the elastic has held up this long. Must have been back when they had quality sweat shop labor.

They don't make it out of the house though. Strictly lounging shorts.

Jeff, Monday, 23 February 2015 17:20 (eleven years ago)

Thing I have owned the longest and sometimes wear is probably my v-neck duck print sweatshirt, featured somewhere on an old WDYLL thread, picked up around 10 years ago from a vintage shop. As I get older, it's not so much that it has deteriorated or gone "out of style" as it's kind of a comical piece that I feel less comfortable wearing as a dad in my mid-30s.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 17:23 (eleven years ago)

you have to save it until you are a dad in your mid-50s and then it will be totally fine

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 February 2015 17:59 (eleven years ago)

belts. where can i buy belts? everywhere i would ordinarily think of seems to be terrible. work belts, casual belts. belts.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 23 February 2015 19:39 (eleven years ago)

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 19:44 (eleven years ago)

i have one of these i got a few years back with a voucher for selfridges someone got me at xmas - http://www.andersonheritage.it

built to last - durable - empirical quality etc. actually this prob is my oldest item i still wear besides a cos cardigan. the metal is a bit stained (with age) but the belt itself is as good as the first day i got it

Remember the brief period in the 90s when people wore their braided belts like that? Good times.

Jeff, Monday, 23 February 2015 19:54 (eleven years ago)

oh i was totally on the slack-hanging-from-braided-belt trend

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 19:55 (eleven years ago)

I have a question -- is their a clearly defined difference between "khakis" and "chinos"? Because I bought these "relaxed fit chinos" from SA, and I also have a pair of "Italian chino pants" from J. Crew, and they both seem to be a little bit stiffer and shinier than regular old "khakis." They are colored like khakis, except with that slight sheen, and they have to be dry-cleaned.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 19:59 (eleven years ago)

you have discovered the mysterious "dress chino" i think

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 February 2015 20:01 (eleven years ago)

belts--non-horrible belts can be found in outlet type stores (nordstrom rack, saks off 5th, etc.) spend a little more and there are lots of online places making nice belts a la the one lg linked to. if you want a nice belt (esp. nice dress belt) but couldn't be bothered to look around online go to allen edmonds.

Where can I get a good, well-made, uninteresting wool overcoat of the type one could wear with a suit to a job interview?

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

For a reasonable price

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

sounds like a Jos. A Bank item, they've been selling stuff crazy cheap lately, good time to get a deal on a coat too

rip van wanko, Monday, 23 February 2015 20:13 (eleven years ago)

"lately"

, Monday, 23 February 2015 20:15 (eleven years ago)

i have one from banana republic that looks v classy and boring that cost less than $200 i think. it is a "car coat" so it falls lower than a suit jacket so u don't look like a dork.

yeah Josabank is like Mens Wearhouse now, wasn't it a little more upmarket in the aughts/90s?

rip van wanko, Monday, 23 February 2015 20:21 (eleven years ago)

thx for belt tips folx i will investigate those leads

nice coats seem to be one of the only things lord & taylor does well consistently ime

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 24 February 2015 20:52 (eleven years ago)

bobby spirals i get mine from this guy, i guess they are $10-20 more than a uniqlo belt but they are nicer and you only need 2 belts ime and they last like 10 years.

lag∞n, Tuesday, 24 February 2015 22:04 (eleven years ago)

SUIT UPDATE:

While Suitsupply was kind of a disappointment, the fabrics at the Indochino showroom were really nice; the charcoal was a really deep dark charcoal and the texture was great. $449 for a custom suit kind of seems like a really great deal...

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 02:19 (eleven years ago)

what didn't you like about suitsupply?

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 02:34 (eleven years ago)

they had the fit I wanted and the color I wanted but not in the same suit, at least not in my price range.

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 25 February 2015 02:56 (eleven years ago)

gotcha. i ordered a tuxedo from suitsupply today, nervously awaiting it now.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 25 February 2015 03:02 (eleven years ago)

so suitsupply's fits are slim as fuck, huh. jcrew ludlow tuxedo in 44 was wayyyy closer to fitting me (like could be altered to fit me) than suitsupply.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 February 2015 00:56 (eleven years ago)

sounds like someones sending his tux back bummer dude

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 February 2015 01:00 (eleven years ago)

cld get an m2m tux http://www.indochino.com/collection/tuxedo-suits

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 February 2015 01:01 (eleven years ago)

i don't have time to do indochino before my event :/

going to try suitsupply's 46. reluctant to fall back on jcrew because they made a couple decisions on detailing that really drive me nuts (plastic-looking jacket button, flap pockets).

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 February 2015 01:09 (eleven years ago)

yo i was just messing around w the indochino site and they dont let u mess w any of the customization options until after youve ordered? ridiculous

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 February 2015 01:33 (eleven years ago)

wow you're right, what kind of sense does that make?

i was going to complain offhand that i liked the look of their midnight blue tux except for the friggin flap pockets shown in the pics, apparently those could be customized out but why is there not a comprehensive list of options before you order?

call all destroyer, Thursday, 26 February 2015 01:40 (eleven years ago)

why do u h8 flap pockets so much its just some flaps man

lag∞n, Thursday, 26 February 2015 01:57 (eleven years ago)

Aren't they the convertible kind that you can tuck in

, Thursday, 26 February 2015 01:58 (eleven years ago)

flaps just look bad on eveningwear there's no reason for them. maybe they were the tuck in kind but i would never have them untucked so i'd prefer that they just not be there at all.
