the triangle, not the cross

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 February 2015 10:17 (eleven years ago)

a good rule of thumb here is that it's a triangle

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 February 2015 10:18 (eleven years ago)

the cross is another debate i guess

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 February 2015 10:18 (eleven years ago)

then i'm not sure what we're talkign about. pic?

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 February 2015 10:30 (eleven years ago)

yeah, thought that's what we were talking about. sometimes the triangle forms a little cross-shaped thing at the front. not a fan. then again i'm not a huge fan of sweatshirts

I, (dog latin), Monday, 23 February 2015 10:50 (eleven years ago)

Grand pronouncement: A man needs a sweatshirt, or a utility sweater.

the captain beefheart of personal hygiene (soda), Monday, 23 February 2015 11:17 (eleven years ago)

I'd rather wear a hoodie or knitted jumper than a sweatshirt. Just not sure how to 'wear' them really (i.e. what to wear them with and in what context).

I, (dog latin), Monday, 23 February 2015 11:30 (eleven years ago)

man, pullover vs zip hoodies is an enduring ilx debate i guess. don't want to just slip back into the face off of restating contradictory positions so i am going to just offer a little bit of advice, if you think pullover hoodie > zip then i recommend you reevaluate every single facet of your existence. it will be a hard road but worth it in the end i promise and when you get there maybe i'll let you buy me a beer.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 23 February 2015 13:06 (eleven years ago)

Maybe I"ll let you zip my hoodie up

, Monday, 23 February 2015 13:06 (eleven years ago)

dtz

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 23 February 2015 13:07 (eleven years ago)

The zip is great for lounging around the apartment in and for making casual runs to the grocery store

But that hoodie part has to go

That's why I bought a 'fleece jogger' from Am Ap that fits too small

Therefore I was gonna go back to the zip hood and was intrigued

By Everlane

Now though i just don't know what to think

In life, who does the zipping, and who does the unzipping?

Confused

, Monday, 23 February 2015 13:28 (eleven years ago)

The pullover is good becaues it structuarally allows you to use thicker cotton

But putting one on is a commitment

It means you're wearing one for the rest of the day

It's a lot to deal with

, Monday, 23 February 2015 13:29 (eleven years ago)

I put on and remove a lot, so the zip is essential. I also like to layer hoodies, much easier if they are all zip.

Jeff, Monday, 23 February 2015 13:44 (eleven years ago)

that is how i feel, a hoodie is essentially a layering piece and the zip gives you more control

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 February 2015 13:51 (eleven years ago)

hoodies are for zuckerbros in my line of work. i eschew them.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 23 February 2015 14:47 (eleven years ago)

both kinds of hoodies

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 23 February 2015 14:47 (eleven years ago)

bought my first hoodie in several years this winter - i don't always like how hoods look or having them under jackets etc despite the cocoon joy of wearing one

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 February 2015 14:53 (eleven years ago)

no zukerbros are strickly zip hoodie xp

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 14:54 (eleven years ago)

otm, plus the neck on pullovers is always so small. that's why you see jocks (who wear pullover hoodies all the fucking time) cut the corners of the hood to separate it from the sweatshirt a little. nagl imo. pullovers are a pain to get on and off and if you get too warm there is no option except to take it off.

zip you can open up if you get too warm but you still get to wear the hoodie

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:38 (eleven years ago)

pullovers just seem clunky and weird to me

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:41 (eleven years ago)

I like the ones that look like Cosby sweaters. But did Cosby ruin Cosby sweaters now?

I've been wondering the same thing. If they can just pivot to being Biggie Sweaters instead, I think they'll last. Otherwise...

bit of a singles monster (Eazy), Monday, 23 February 2015 15:41 (eleven years ago)

i do feel like we had this debate very recently though. and i mentioned that if you wear a zip then it should have the metal zippers and not those flimsy-ass thin plastic zipper on those cheap american apparel hoodies. have had very bad experience with AA hoodies, max otm re: quality control.

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:43 (eleven years ago)

unrelated question but i got a blazer similar to this as a christmas present from my in-laws and i don't know what color pants to wear it with, what do you all think? camel corduroy blazer, i don't wear blazers often so i don't quite know how to pair it

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:51 (eleven years ago)

navy

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:52 (eleven years ago)

medium gray too

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 February 2015 15:59 (eleven years ago)

and jeans

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:00 (eleven years ago)

great piece actually v. versatile

call all destroyer, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:00 (eleven years ago)

Yeah navy trousers or medium to dark blue jeans was the first thing that came to mind. Grey would work too. You could also do a strong contrasting color like red.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:02 (eleven years ago)

you could go full Magic Band with something like that. I like it.

Broth Viking (dog latin), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:04 (eleven years ago)

yea it is really a great blazer but most of the pants i own are dark gray or faded black and it doesn't quite work with those, think i need some new to wear with it

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:19 (eleven years ago)

pair it w the new yeezys maybe

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)

i should always ask for nice clothes from my father-in-law, he knows his shit, his family had a tailor shop that he grew up working in. he is NEVER underdressed, ever, i've seen this guy in a t-shirt like ONCE and it was on a boat and we went swimming after. even then i was surprised his shirt didn't have a collar. so he is a good person to ask about nice clothes.

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:22 (eleven years ago)

did you get a BB like what I think the one in the pic is? That's gonna be a good quality blazer if so, wear it into old age.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:23 (eleven years ago)

yea it was brooks brothers

marcos, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:23 (eleven years ago)

there is nothing u own now that u will wear into old age sorry folks just have to be real on this website

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:24 (eleven years ago)

maybe blazers or coats - mostly i find it's only true in theory - you get bored of wearing a certain thing or you dress a bit differently 3/4 years down the line.

i guess there's growing larger to think about too.

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:26 (eleven years ago)

also styles change, anyone itt still fucking w a big boxy three button jacket

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)

yeah true i guess - i mean it depends on how vintage you want to dress too. one of my uncles who's in his 70s wears pin stripe suits and brogues and a big camel coat and he looks like the don at every family event - i'm fairly sure he bought them 30 or 40 years ago. not sure our generation will be able to pull that kind of thing off.

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

cheers: clothes that make u feel sexy dignified and peaceful; jeers: masculine marketing mythologies about permanence and empirical quality

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

IDK, if anything is going to have staying power its crusty professorwear like that.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:34 (eleven years ago)

btw nothing personal hurting not trying to jump down yr throat for a nice offhanded comment! just an interesting topic generally, one that i have prob already said my peace on itt lol

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:35 (eleven years ago)

Everyone has that moment when they put their most trusty jacket on to the realisation they simply can't wear it anymore though.

Broth Viking (dog latin), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:35 (eleven years ago)

funny thing is usually if u have something for a long time its cause u dont like it that much, anything u wear a lot will deteriorate no matter how well made

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:36 (eleven years ago)

Also over the past 75 years or so I feel like things wrt suits and blazers have been more cyclical than dramatically changing.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

yeah obviously there's the deterioration issue. But a blazer lasts because most people just don't wear a blazer that often.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 23 February 2015 16:38 (eleven years ago)

well yeah u cld conceivably hold out until a cycle comes back again but idk doesnt seem likely, also i mean theyre not really cycles, its diff every time, also ones taste and physical form is unlikely to remain stationary over that term

lag∞n, Monday, 23 February 2015 16:39 (eleven years ago)

what the oldest piece of clothing u all own that gets any sort of regular burn
