if i were interviewing for medical school tho i wld wear a shirt/suit with blood all over it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:31 (eleven years ago)

Thanks lag'n. I will reconsider white. And also being a cool handsome dude.

Interesting, k3vin.... how dark was the purple? And what color tie? (I'm not trying to nick your look, just curious!)

I'm a little flummoxed b/c I so rarely ever wear a suit, and never in a situation like a job interview w/ pretty tight parameters of what's appropriate.

xp lol

get some business cards printed up with your name on them then underneath "cool handsome dude", sure to impress!

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:34 (eleven years ago)

Thank you for your responses. They means as much to me as your advices b/c they are bringing me down to earth a little.

a girl with colitis (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:36 (eleven years ago)

I'll wear a t-shirt that says that under my shirt and jacket so that I remember.

a girl with colitis (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:37 (eleven years ago)

tshirt over dress shirt imo

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:38 (eleven years ago)

that look that screams businessman at event to encourage success in local teens

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:39 (eleven years ago)

I'm remember David Foster Wallace's thing about wearing a tuxedo-print tshirt to the formal dinner on a cruise.

a girl with colitis (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:47 (eleven years ago)

the traditional intent of job interview dress is to look neat without having anything about your wardrobe stand out. you don't want to wear anything that could distract the interviewer.

this is a little much imo but prob good advice on the whole.

white shirt is good. either suit sounds good. black shoes. a nice tie with a simple stripe or neat pattern in a darker color is the way to go. nothing too shiny!

a white tie with "fuck you pay me" written in sharpie on it

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:49 (eleven years ago)

black shoes.

Oh yeh -- I was thinking about brown shoes (idk what you call it but they're this dark tan, camel? color that I love) w/ either suit. Is that inadvisable?

a girl with colitis (Je55e), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:54 (eleven years ago)

black shoes/black belt

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:55 (eleven years ago)

wear the shit out of that color once you get hired, but black for the interview

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 19:58 (eleven years ago)

it's a lighter shade of purple but its also got v thin stripes alternating purple and white, so it's definitely lighter. the tie is a darker purple with some style, i cant find a picture online but it's a tino cosma

k3vin k., Wednesday, 18 February 2015 20:04 (eleven years ago)

can't go wrong with the classic black suit, lime green shirt, silver tie

i'm buying a new suit for interviews and i'm thinking navy blue suit, white/light ble shirt, burgndy patterned tie, black shoes, etc.

CoolRadio, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 20:19 (eleven years ago)

xp idk aboout purple tie. i bought one once and it made me feel like i was one of the penguins back office henchmen or something. maybe go w/ something more conservative if it's a job interview, like burgundy, navy, etc, with a classic pattern. or something transitional like classic but w a subtle contemporary twist.

CoolRadio, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 20:29 (eleven years ago)

guys I have an interview on tomorrow for an IT support position!! I was thinking this, but my friend said too much black:

black dockers
black wingtips
tight (in pattern, not in fit) teal-and-black-on-white plaid shirt with a black tie and a v wonderfully-fitting black sweater over it

I will post back w/ a pic later tonight but does this sound okayish or too black????

thrifty grades of pay (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:23 (eleven years ago)

too black imo

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:26 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:27 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:27 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:28 (eleven years ago)

i thought basic intvw rule is like - wear the most formal version of what would be appropriate for working at this place

no (Lamp), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:29 (eleven years ago)

god, jeez, i just want 2 look ~chic~, I thought black was ~chic~

thrifty grades of pay (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:30 (eleven years ago)

yeah psychologically its seems like u want to mirror their look to signal that you will fit in but dress it up a little to show u respect their power over u

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:31 (eleven years ago)

my feeling for a university tech department sweater w tie is right but just not all black, dont be chic

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:32 (eleven years ago)

I don't have any other well-fitting monocrhome sweaters that aren't slouchy though, except for this heavy olive-colored French military sweater with 3/4 length sleeves and epaulettes

thrifty grades of pay (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:43 (eleven years ago)

cld wear diff pants

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:43 (eleven years ago)

the only other non-black non-jeans I have are like pumpkin colored. Too fresh?

thrifty grades of pay (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:45 (eleven years ago)

you should just wear a sweet t shirt that has a joke related to programming languages on it, pants of some kind and new balance 771s

shows you belong

thrifty grades of pay (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:48 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:52 (eleven years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:52 (eleven years ago)

I'll see

thrifty grades of pay (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:58 (eleven years ago)

for the love of god stevie get some gray pants, the entire rest of your look prob works with gray pants

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:58 (eleven years ago)

gray is a key color of pants to be proficient in

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 February 2015 21:59 (eleven years ago)

yeah I keep wanting to get grey jeans or slacks
problem is I don't do v much clothing shopping these days but my tastes are changing towards a more well-cut minimal thing, akin to Evermore
luckily there's a Uniqlo that just opened in Philly and also a Nordstrom Rack and a Century 21. Part of me is like "maybe you should go after work" but another part of me is like "maybe you should use the time to learn the stuff you embellished on your resume and also not buying grey pants is not going to cost you the job"

thrifty grades of pay (Stevie D(eux)), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 22:03 (eleven years ago)

if your panel is all IT people it's really not going to make much difference so long as you put the clothes on the right parts of your body

kriss akabusi cleaner (seandalai), Wednesday, 18 February 2015 22:05 (eleven years ago)

exactly. take a deep breath and put your grey slacks on one arm at a time
