if u make an appointment in advance he will send his boy over to row u over to the other side

Have all my Steven Alan stuff now, it's definitely nice -- was trying to put my finger on what puts it above J. Crew or something and i'd say the cuts are more nicely tailored, the construction looks tighter/sharper/better around the seams, the fabrics feel softer and look stronger. Very happy with the shirts especially, think I'm going to pick up one or two every time they're on super-sale like this. Still impossible to fathom paying what they normally sell for, doesn't seem worth that much money.

WRT Suit Supply, I think it might partly be the build of the models, but I feel like there's something a little off about the combo of the super-narrow pants that practically cling to the thighs with the slightly larger jackets than currently trendy. I also like short jackets for the same reason as Dayo -- I'm not very tall and have short legs.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Saturday, 31 January 2015 18:29 (eleven years ago)

I'm all about trying to analyze the details of suits now.

walid foster dulles (man alive), Saturday, 31 January 2015 18:30 (eleven years ago)

how do we feel about the huge overcoat trend when you are 5"6 and carrying a bit of a spare tyre on an otherwise slender frame, is this something that can work? I like coats and warmth a lot.

boxedjoy, Sunday, 1 February 2015 23:12 (eleven years ago)

anything can work man

its good

lag∞n, Monday, 2 February 2015 02:03 (eleven years ago)

i want an overcoat so bad. in college i had this fucking AWESOME banana republic herringbone wool overcoat i bought used from a friend for a great price, but for a few years a while back i didn't feel like it was my style and i got rid of it. but i am aching for it now.

marcos, Monday, 2 February 2015 17:27 (eleven years ago)

i got so many compliments on that coat. i miss it.

marcos, Monday, 2 February 2015 17:27 (eleven years ago)

that said one of the 'compliments' was from a 50 year-old guy cruising around who asked me if i "take it in the ass" it was on the staten island ferry

marcos, Monday, 2 February 2015 17:29 (eleven years ago)

lol

lag∞n, Monday, 2 February 2015 17:31 (eleven years ago)

what did u tell him

Jennifer 8.-( (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 2 February 2015 17:59 (eleven years ago)

my brooks brothers evay overcoat came. NWOT, my size confirmed in store, saved like 80%. regular-verging-on-oversize but not crazy fashion oversized. definitely not slim fit. charcoal. not on the site any more after winter, but kind of like this in charcoal and bigger/longer/swishier. made out of that brooksstorm wool so i have my own ecosystem.

👍

between perry and jorts guy (arthur) I couldn't say yet. perry is easier for me since he's right by work, and so far has required fewer fittings per alteration.

but I like arthur's style. he's probably more fun to visit.

I'm thinking of getting a new waterproof jacket for walking as my only Belstaff with a hood is too pretty to get covered in mud. Any recommendations (Berghaus, Arc'teryx, North Face, etc, etc)?

Rainbow DAESH (ShariVari), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:14 (eleven years ago)

how warm does it have to be? i think ive posted about my minotaur jacket upthread but i would highly recommend their waterproof jackets

in de rawk (Lamp), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:15 (eleven years ago)

but they arent like canada goose style parkas so if you need something thats really warm theyre a bad choice

in de rawk (Lamp), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:16 (eleven years ago)

I'd prefer something I can wear outside of the coldest months so that sounds good. Thanks.

Rainbow DAESH (ShariVari), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:17 (eleven years ago)

i have something similar to this from army & navy (now a house of fraser own-brand):
http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Army+Navy+Hunter+Four+Pocket+Jacket/202372667,default,pd.html

and it is the best warm/waterproof jacket i've ever owned. but without seeing if the hood has a bill on the front (crucial imo) it's hard to tell if this one is worth it

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:21 (eleven years ago)

i have an aspesi mac and it's v good, and packable, but maybe more city than for walking.

the norse projects elka rain ackets are nice too

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:31 (eleven years ago)

jackets

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 3 February 2015 20:31 (eleven years ago)

i love my norse projects elka

max, Tuesday, 3 February 2015 23:14 (eleven years ago)

their oxford shirts are good, and not crazily priced.

i think this elka is prob of low functional value but i also think it's awesome:

Thanks all.

Rainbow DAESH (ShariVari), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 08:29 (eleven years ago)

one thing i've wanted for a while is a heavy cardigan, maybe cable knit or similar, that doesn't have a shawl neck. it seems to be impossible to find this.

Moyes Enthusiast (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 13:44 (eleven years ago)

http://www.woolovers.us/mens/cardigans

They have a few difft style with no shawl collars here?

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 13:57 (eleven years ago)

so for a particular crowd it seems like canada goose has replaced north face somewhat, around boston at least. i don't see as many north face parkas anymore. preppy college kids still wear that north face fleece though

marcos, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

I see a lot of northface in Chicago. But it is really part of the urban Midwestern uniform here. Some CG, mostly on women.

Jeff, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 17:46 (eleven years ago)

Just wanna post this and say

nope

walid foster dulles (man alive), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:03 (eleven years ago)

male models in general are just genuinely awful? i always have to subtract their presence when evaluating a piece of clothing

also the cuffing on his sleeves is terrible

marcos, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:04 (eleven years ago)

let no cuff go unfussed

chinavision!, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:09 (eleven years ago)

I mean, buttoned jacket over unbuttoned shirt over tee?

walid foster dulles (man alive), Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:11 (eleven years ago)

the worry that an item of clothing will go unseen

chinavision!, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:19 (eleven years ago)

a low anxiety

chinavision!, Wednesday, 4 February 2015 20:19 (eleven years ago)

i feel like if i went to a tailor i'd just like expect him to like ~optimize~ it and if he started asking me questions like "how do YOU want it to look/fit" i'd just start short circuiting

I think I've finally found a tailor who can ~optimize~. The last time I went to a tailor it was b/c my suit jacket was too big and just not-right. The tailor asked me how long I wanted the cuffs, how I wanted the chest to fit, etc. I was almost purely ignorant about fit, so I asked her opinions and she said, "It's your jacket, you tell me how you want it."

Where I panicked was when she asked specifically which seems I wanted changed and how I wanted them changed. That is NOT IN MY BAILIWICK! A) I don't really know how to talk about fit and B) The different functions of all those vertical seems on a suit jacket has always puzzled the shit out of me.

It was like a mechanic asking me if they should replace my car's brake fluid pump or the brake fluid lines. Either evaluate and fix or explain my options.

Je55e, Saturday, 7 February 2015 03:00 (eleven years ago)

Anyway, new tailor had Opinions, which he helped me understand, and it made me feel like there was some order and sense to what was going on. Then he sold me a new suit. (I hope it's a good suit....? This thread makes me feel uncertain about the meager viewpoints and judgment I have on how to dress myself, so I'd be a pretty easy mark for a shoddy or unscrupulous haberdasher.)
