lag∞n, Sunday, 11 January 2015 02:37 (eleven years ago)

i remember i had a canada goose jacket growing up. didn't realize they were a thing, always made me think of dorky 90s ware. speaking of which, it seems like the whole normcore thing has saturated the NYC suburbs pretty thoroughly, quickest i've ever seen a trend get picked up. everyone in my office is rockin' it right now, even the VP of my department.

Wound up with two full cut Peter Millar suits from Nordstrom today for about 750 total - realized the 38 in the full looked much better than the 40 in the trim cuts. Style forum dudes seem to think millar is a good value, non trendy but quality.

lag∞n, Sunday, 11 January 2015 15:52 (eleven years ago)

the maine hunting shoe is perhaps a little too old-timey like costume clothing almost. for my taste anyway.

Acting Crazy (Instrumental) (jed_), Sunday, 11 January 2015 16:07 (eleven years ago)

The difference is in the type of rubber they use.
When they changed the name from "Maine Hunting Shoe" to "Bean Boot", they were catering to non-hunters who back during the eighties, found these boots fashionable for urban wear.
Trouble was, the soles wore out too quickly on asphalt pavement
so they needed to use a tougher rubber. Many outdoorsmen (myself included) didn't like the new version as they made it more difficult to feel what you were walking on and it was harder to walk quietly in the woods with them.
So they returned to the old style Maine Hunting Shoe for hunters
but still make the Bean Boot for scuffing around on concrete and asphalt.

i love varsity jackets

max, Monday, 12 January 2015 12:26 (eleven years ago)

haha i cannot get with varsity jackets at all. too much trauma from varsity-related hierarchies in HS. you have this when you go to a consistent state champion in football HS

marcos, Monday, 12 January 2015 17:15 (eleven years ago)

SO many great boots itt, damn

marcos, Monday, 12 January 2015 17:16 (eleven years ago)

i think i dig those dark sorels the most. sorel seems like the best bootmaker w/r/t winter boots. probably more expensive than bean though. for super robust snow boots i have a pretty unhip pair of kamiks that work fine. i'm eager to replace them but they have shown little wear in 5 years.

marcos, Monday, 12 January 2015 17:17 (eleven years ago)

varsity jackets have a little too much of an campy 80s jock feel for me to rock one

walid foster dulles (man alive), Monday, 12 January 2015 17:19 (eleven years ago)

yea totally. athletic wear in general is just not my style, vintage or not

marcos, Monday, 12 January 2015 17:21 (eleven years ago)

For vintage vibes I'd rock a starter jacket before a varsity jacket
