nbd, i was referring to what man alive said upthread. in my defense I moved to quebec from oregon and needed something legitimately warm to make myself not regret that decision every single day for several months. it is kind of shocking seeing lots of students wearing $$$ CG jackets everywhere. ime, a lot of them seem to be int'l students (I work on a uni campus), and if you click through that canada douche tumblr for a while it starts to feel kind of racist

I have two knockoffs of CG someone got for me in china

i imagine a good number of coats in that tumblr are knockoffs

i would say its a very high likelihood that person that started that tumblr is azn

im kinda bowled over bc i always thought the canada goose hate was directed in the same direction as the ol' uggs hate, but am now realizing that there may be a far more insidious coded racism attached to it. blech.

anyway a dope cold-temp parka is vital, who gives a fuck if they look good. my winter coats look like ass once it gets past -15 or -20c. not unlike my disposition.

you CAN find sthg comparable to a CG jacket at the bay for about 20% of the price of a CG, esp. if it's on sale, the one i have now was like under a hundo i think? and i've had it for like 5-6 years (altho this year it is retiring, zipper's all turded up)

and re: the animal right convo i get it and feel bad about having fur lining on my hood but fucking honestly when it is -40c and you pull that bad boy up it's like you're getting a warm hug from a furry friend, and i've never seen a synthetic that even comes close.

Nothing worse than bits of melting snow plastered to your face by a furry hood though.

Um, there is? In NYC I thought it was just another rich people status thing.

walking around manhattan a couple weeks back i saw these jackets everywhere (there was even some convo about this among the people i was with) and got the same impression - that the brand was a status thing in the city.

i hadn't ever heard of cg before this trip but admittedly there isn't much buy for down parkas here in dallas, though we do have a ton of rich folks down here so maybe i'm just not looking hard enough

even w/in the context of rich status there seems to be a general consensus that its particularly douchey

heard some employees of the hardcore outdoor store discussing amongst that even tho its trendy as hell it is actually the best jacket fwiw

they were all "get it now while its still made in canada"

re: gear, for rich dudes menswear is basically the nu sharper image catalog, go check the like john lobb thread on styleforum and see if you can tell where added value craftsmanship and thorstein veblen's tears dovetail into a small pile of $2200 loafers.

or any brand that has a video explaining its superiority. i bought a mission workshop bag last week and it owns but their website makes me kinda uncomfortable

man I totally thought cg jackets were just totally regular, if a little dweeby looking. but I also thought they were cheap, or normal jacket price.

Lamp's point is quite possible, i have no idea. I am new to canada, know nothing of Toronto, am probably missing some cultural context. that said it was as much the fact that 75% of the photos are of azn people as that pretty much every photo caption of a black person suddenly turned up the slang pretty high. anyway, i just have hurt feelings because i am new to the parka lifestyle and didn't know all the codes yet.

I lived in chicago for ten years and got by for the first nine with something I bought in marshall fields for like $80 and eventually had no insulation at all near the pockets, then I got a Spiewak duffle coat at the end of my last winter there, but it would not cut it here.

I have this "Classic English Duffle Coat" with no brand, just says inside that it's an English duffle coat made in england -- I think I bought it off a coat guy at Brooklyn flea for around $100. I rocked it for a little while but somehow I don't quite know what to do with it, like it's sort of somewhere in between a casual coat and an overcoat, and the style is a little bit poncey, and it's not warm enough for super cold days but kind of too much square footage of heavy material too be wearing on a non-cold day.

that is 100% otm about my duffle coat too, i am always surprised how heavy it is
