re: sizing w/ that fleece though i definitely felt larger was better - i ordered a few sizes to try on and the appropriately sized one for me (S) gave off major 'preppy kid trying to be goofy' vibes. patagonia is, let's face it, loved well by rich kids and with a nicely fitting garish fleece i felt like some spoiled CT college kid on a ski trip. with a M or L the new england hippie curmudgeon fibe was better revealed

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 02:01 (eleven years ago)

feeling that bison sweater cad. sneakers too. they actually go well together but maybe just a little too coordinated

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 02:01 (eleven years ago)

yeah you'd need navy chinos or something to wear both together. the sneakers are staying packed away until we emerge from the frozen hell of winter of course.

call all destroyer, Friday, 9 January 2015 02:03 (eleven years ago)

I'll have to post a pic of my bison sweater some time. It was a hand me down from an old man I later found out stole from my grandma. He's dead now, my grandmas alive and I have a sweet sweater.

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 02:09 (eleven years ago)

lagoon which patagonia fleece did you order

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 02:10 (eleven years ago)

haha awesome, i bet you can pull it off though

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 15:41 (eleven years ago)

btw very excited about variety of levi's jeans and pants i ordered, just tried on a few last night and they are great. i was really looking for something not baggy in any way but also not slim fit and these are like the perfect fit for me

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 15:42 (eleven years ago)

which ones do u like

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 15:43 (eleven years ago)

514s were great, also i needed a new pair of chinos and i was pleased w/ levi's, those fit well too. haven't tried on the 501s, 504s, 505s. 514 corduroys were also great

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:07 (eleven years ago)

London Fog parka turned out a little too big and roomy and un-tailored looking, but I kept it because it happened to get cold as FUCK the day after it arrived and I didn't have a better coat. Kind of regret not getting the Spiewak, which presumably would have been more tailored.

I need folks to recommend a good winter hat now, all I have is this exceedingly stupid-looking North Face beanie that I bought on the verge of a storm last year because there weren't many options. I was thinking maybe a cap with earflaps.

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:27 (eleven years ago)

big and roomy is the approp shape for ones parka btw

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:29 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, it's also just a little long for me though I guess, just a hair too much on the sack side. If it were shorter I probably wouldn't otherwise mind the size.

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:31 (eleven years ago)

totally agree re: big and roomy parkas, xp. embrace it man alive! i'm not a huge fan of more tailored parkas

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:33 (eleven years ago)

i've also been looking for a new winter hat, i have this chunky woven one from REI that is okay but i kind of want a nice wool inca-style hat with the ear flaps, but so many of those have those long stringy ties on the sides and one on the top. those really bulky caps with earflaps though are also really cool, yea, and super warm

I feel like I need to order something from a western state-based store that has "trading" in the name

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:37 (eleven years ago)

tis time to start leaving the tailored look behind...

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:40 (eleven years ago)

Might go with one of these, idk:

I saw two sort of fashion-forwardy normcore dudes on the subway wearing what looked like legit russian fur hats and they looked pretty awesome in them.

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:45 (eleven years ago)

Man, I see so many people with these $800 Canada Goose parkas around. Big plasticky logo patch kind of makes them look cheesy imo, same with all that fjallraven stuff.

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:49 (eleven years ago)

I saw dozens yesterday and they're $1100 plus in the UK, even at TK Maxx.

call all destroyer, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:55 (eleven years ago)

lol my friend blacked out his canada goose logo and we like to own him about it

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:55 (eleven years ago)

i don't really do boots but i'm in the market for some sneakers that look cool but can still hold up to winter ... anyone have any suggestions (in the ~100-120 range)

J0rdan S., Friday, 9 January 2015 16:56 (eleven years ago)

omg just get some boots u r in denial

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:57 (eleven years ago)

like its snowed 30 times in ny last winter how did u survive

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:57 (eleven years ago)

yeah you're a resident of the northeast now one of us one of us

call all destroyer, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:58 (eleven years ago)

i wear leather hightop vans they work fine

J0rdan S., Friday, 9 January 2015 16:58 (eleven years ago)

my feet never get wet ... maybe slightly cold but if i wear thick socks it's okay ... the boot look isn't really my thing

J0rdan S., Friday, 9 January 2015 16:59 (eleven years ago)

A female coworker told me she "invested in one." You could just buy a still very nice $300 parka and take a cab to work every legit cold day for the next several years for about the same price imo.

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:59 (eleven years ago)

jordan this is the behavior of someone spending his first winter in the northeast, its time to get a grip

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 16:59 (eleven years ago)

(big waterproof boots will make u feel very powerful)

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 17:00 (eleven years ago)

yea dude get some boots, there are plenty of cool looking boots. wearing boots is one of my favorite things about winter

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 17:01 (eleven years ago)

(no more strategizing ways to navigate slushy puddles at the sidewalks edge)

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 17:01 (eleven years ago)

oh yea xp there is a huge difference, you feel invincible walking across snow banks and slush and you never worry about ruining your shoes or pants

marcos, Friday, 9 January 2015 17:01 (eleven years ago)

Camper bikeshoes I mentioned upthread are waterproof, though not great treadwise. They held up well today when there were only a couple inches on the ground, probably wouldn't be too good in deeper snow though. Not that any sneaker really would.

man alive, Friday, 9 January 2015 17:02 (eleven years ago)

i own three pairs of boots of escalating robustness

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 17:02 (eleven years ago)

tho tbf when i lived in ny i got by with pretend city boots, which was a mistake btw

lag∞n, Friday, 9 January 2015 17:02 (eleven years ago)

there were only a few days last year in nyc where you truly needed BOOTS
