Pretty similar to uniqlo* (I actually find H&M to be the most tight in the sizing department or maybe most reluctant to use 'vanity' sizing)

Their cuts tend to be more loose/boxy than the form-fitting look that's popular now

My feeling is most of their stuff looks pretty good because it might have a more unique cut but tends to be lacking in the detailing

yeah their design seems more sophisticated than these other stores which tend to occupy the staples-grotesque trend hopping range

I have a cotton cardigan from Muji that's too small because I forgot to size up for sweaters, very rookie mistake

FYI Labo is one of their sub-brands, think it's supposed to be of higher quality

that said not sure im ready for a bloomin button down, tho maybe if worn untucked

i looked at labo its all on sale rn but a lot of sizes r gone, i really like the name muji labo

I started wearing Dockers this year because I had problems splitting the seat of all the mid-range, Macy's-bought wool dress pants (Nautica, Calvin Klein, etc.) I had been wearing. It was a choice between spending all this damn money getting them dry cleaned and mended all the damn time or buying a new pair of pants for $35 a couple times a year. I'm pretty happy with the Dockers, but yeah, one of them has the makings of a hole in the knee already because my legs don't fit into the seats on my commuter bus.

Okay, fucking sick of the dockers now. Wearing disposable clothes is so dispiriting. Really would like to find some higher-quality, sturdy twill trousers that are available in a 42 waist. Want something that could run the gamut from office casual to yard work. Would be willing to shell out extra money for something that lasts. Any suggestions?

you will def pay extra, but check out bill's khakis. i have never handled a pair but supposedly they're extremely well-made.

how's life you might want to look into a pair of carhartts, they have all kinds of pants, well maybe not dress pants, but many could easily pass in a business casual environment and they are all pretty sturdy

and not terribly expensive either

ime the best cheap trousers are lands end chinos on sale. http://www.landsend.com/products/mens-elston-608-slim-fit-chino-pants/id_247116 i think they are still too expensive here but if you wait for clearance + a 30% coupon you are looking at like $18 and they'll last a year or two. they are sturdier than dockers.

fwiw i also have RRL and unis chinos that i like a lot but i really don't think the cost (which is between 5 and 10 times the cost of the LE chinos on clearance) is necessarily reflected in the quality.

i love those lands end pants, strong buy rec imo. i don't believe the waist goes up to 42 though :/

Thanks for the recommendations everybody. And yeah, I'd definitely prefer something I could try on and feel out for myself.

if you buy something that's returnable is it really a big deal? i get it, but there's so much high-quality stuff on the 'nets that isn't in most stores.

it means i have to put it in a package and go to the post office and then wait for the new pair to come, it just seems extraordinarily time-consuming. in a shop i know right then and there if something's not fitting or feeling right.
