my father-in-law bought this country-style dining room table for their house in VT and told me "the best thing about this table is that it doesn't matter if it gets knicked, the style is 'distressed'!!"

xxp noticed the same thing about lima peru and santiago chile -- thick black hair everywhere and there were some really crazy cuts. lots of bad mullet-style cuts though too

marcos, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:16 (eleven years ago)

although i personally dislike long hair on men i can understand why its desirable rn just moving away from the whole 'digital creative' look

≖_≖ (Lamp), Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:16 (eleven years ago)

Sometimes I wonder about whether haircuts in other countries are ironic but I just miss the irony bc of lack of context

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:19 (eleven years ago)

Irony is kinda a western concept tbh

, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:20 (eleven years ago)

yea it's hard to know. the mullets seemed too common to be ironic though, they were very popular among 18-20 year olds

marcos, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:21 (eleven years ago)

my hair is too curly to ever have that long seattle style stoner metal-style hair that i admire on people like merzbow or j mascis. the longer my hair gets the more i look like those two dudes from at the drive-in, which was definitely a look i rocked in college though, it worked

marcos, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:22 (eleven years ago)

can u imagine what the world will look like when asia goes ironic my lord

lag∞n, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:22 (eleven years ago)

God I hope not

They are having so much fun right now

Don't want them to become dour and serious

, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:23 (eleven years ago)

sorry too bad this is why we do colonialism

lag∞n, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:24 (eleven years ago)

We have to prevent Iran from developing Irony

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:26 (eleven years ago)

irony is a force for good and democracy

lag∞n, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:27 (eleven years ago)

can we dig a lil deeper into the post digital creative look, feel like the pants are still tapered but a lil more relaxed, like thye look like they could maybe have some paint splatters ont hem

lag∞n, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:36 (eleven years ago)

also feel like in post digital creative, those standard black frames buddy holly glasses are a little out - people are going for more colorful frames or going for more natural brown type frames maybe? really like these types i've been seeing a lot:

lag∞n, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:47 (eleven years ago)

Thick black plastic frames have been out for a while now imo, Warby Parker not withstanding

, Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:52 (eleven years ago)

I saw an older lawyer rockin' the thick black frames recently and making it work really well, but old lawyer style is its own separate thing.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 20 November 2014 16:53 (eleven years ago)

yea on older folks i think black frames can look very good

marcos, Thursday, 20 November 2014 17:09 (eleven years ago)

there is this lawyer at the university i work at who has a totally shaved head and wears HUGE black frames, he's probably 40 or something

marcos, Thursday, 20 November 2014 17:09 (eleven years ago)

I recently bought a vintage pendleton B&W herringbone pattern coat that has very not-contemporary lapels and I'm kind of liking it. It has slightly odd pockets too, and also those big black old-man buttons which I have always loved. And the shape is a little straighter and more "sack" like than the super-tapered coats you see around now. Just kind of liking having a coat with some features that are not standard right now although the pattern looks very much in line with a lot of coats I see.

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Thursday, 20 November 2014 17:33 (eleven years ago)

ohh a colleague had a coat yesterday that totally had that "sack" look and it looked great! it was wool and had a green tweed kind of fabric, i totally dug it

marcos, Thursday, 20 November 2014 17:56 (eleven years ago)

i went to the j press sample sale today and tried on a $2400 coat

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 20 November 2014 20:17 (eleven years ago)

Fantastic

Jeff, Friday, 21 November 2014 03:22 (eleven years ago)

haha

marcos, Friday, 21 November 2014 21:07 (eleven years ago)

thing is i actually like overalls! huge doubts whether i could pull them off though. but yea those are dumb. basically i think overalls only work if:

-you are in a bluegrass band
-you work or live on a farm
-you are doing some kind of work that requires the coverage of overalls, e.g. woodworking, carpentry, construction, etc.

marcos, Friday, 21 November 2014 21:09 (eleven years ago)

-you are in Color Me Badd

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Friday, 21 November 2014 21:10 (eleven years ago)

think if i lived on at least a half-acre, preferably more, of land in western MA i could wear overalls around the house and yard.

marcos, Friday, 21 November 2014 21:10 (eleven years ago)

oh right lol xp

marcos, Friday, 21 November 2014 21:10 (eleven years ago)

I can't find a picture of it, but the Brioni store window in midtown has this kimono-suit right now, it's like a charcoal wool business suit only the jacket is a wool kimono. IDK if that's cool or dumb, but I thought it was kind of funny. I do kind of covet Brioni suits tho. I have a Brioni tie that is my bigshot power tie.

Was a popular look when I was in 8th grade.

Jeff, Friday, 21 November 2014 21:25 (eleven years ago)

kimono suit sounds like a power move if ever there was one

call all destroyer, Friday, 21 November 2014 21:27 (eleven years ago)

Yes, I was going through am old yearbook recently and was surprised at all the overalls. I don't think I noticed anyone who didn't wear docs at the time.

put your money where the maracas are (how's life), Friday, 21 November 2014 21:27 (eleven years ago)

also made me think of "open the kimono" xp. Now picturing a movie scene in a boardroom where guy at the head stands up and says "I think we ought to open the kimono on this one" *opens kimono suit jacket, pulls out machine gun, guns down entire board*

my jaw left (Hurting 2), Friday, 21 November 2014 21:29 (eleven years ago)

i had docs and overalls
