ive been really into wide-leg suits for a few years - eddie redmayne in 'my life with marilyn' being a particular touchstone for the sort of look im into. def get some looks when i wearing like pleated chinos with a really baggy leg but you have to be the change you want to see in the world and all that

im not ready for wide legs but i never got super into skinny pants neither

i feel like the key to making them look proportional is wearing your trousers higher on the waist than is normal now.

I was just recently starting to get annoyed at the ubiquity of skinny suits with super narrow lapels. It's nagl for a lawyer imo very insubstantial

the first person i remember wearing really skinny jeans was in snr year of high school this artist dude was dating a friend of mine and she told me he bought girls jeans because he couldnt find boys jeans that were tight enough and the whole time she was dating him we just referred to him as 'girl jeans'

from the outside looking in turn of the century hipsters seem like the catalysts for the skinny pant thing althoug i feel like it didnt hit #menswear until like 2004/5 - actually the movie 'stay' with ewan mcgregor and naomi watts i remember watching that and thinking about how awesome mcgregors suits looked. he was rocking the very tailored suits cut short at the cuffs with bare ankles thing in that which is the first place i saw it

I remember my cool friends buying skinny jeans around 2001/2002. but I didn't buy jeans until like 2007.

my early adapter friend was also the one who loaned out his strokes cd to everyone to copy in early fall 2001.

oh wait that's early adopter isn't it? I just realized.

there were no adaptations, just skinny jeans as purchased

ok it took me like ten minutes of googling but thom browne made the suits for the movie 'stay' and he is def the person that i associate with transporting the look into suiting

interesting the strokes songwriters are different than their pants innovators, then theres the poor bass player

it's crazy how cool the strokes looked at the time and how much all of those elements became dated so quickly. even how the photograph looks too 'nice' and photoshooty to pass as terribly cool probably 5 years later.

I'm not going to commit too stongly to my statement about the photo quality. kinda feel like I might have gone too far... sorry.

the leather jackets are just a few oddly placed zippers away from being very contemporary but man the deepness of those vees is like a journey into the distant past

one thing i never really liked re super tailored jackets is the those sharp peaked shoulders like the guy with the dog has whole thing looks overly constrained and unchill

the scoopneck vee is the skinny suit of shirts. bros are wearing it but the people are getting tired.

we're in 1982, and some of us are moving forward while the rest look like they're out of the last decade

(I have a skinny suit that I will continue to wear until I can afford more suits fwiw)

i have transitioned to higher waist and wider leg but i still find the break 2 norm 2 handle (or rather too tricky to get right) so i just tend to roll em up for an abrupt stop and go for the japanese chimney sweep look
