lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:27 (eleven years ago)

tho w/in that there have obvs been diff shapes/styles

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:30 (eleven years ago)

actually tight t-shirts and highwater pants became cool mid-90s (thinking hardcore/emo scene), was that the influence? although you can trace any trend backwards endlessly if you want to I suppose.

rip van wanko, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:38 (eleven years ago)

yeah theres always someone out there wearing tite pants

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:39 (eleven years ago)

feel like tho yeah emo guys wearing girl jeans was def an influence on skinny jeans then from the more establishment fashion side came the little suits and fitted looks

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:49 (eleven years ago)

I always thought skinny suits were a bod thing

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:49 (eleven years ago)

uh I mean mod thing

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:49 (eleven years ago)

arent mods from like the 1960s tho

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:50 (eleven years ago)

followed by a mad men thing (even if their suits weren't actually that skinny)

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:51 (eleven years ago)

well yeah I just figured that's where the style always points

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:51 (eleven years ago)

tight suits, narrow lapels, skinny ties. just a little more exagerated each iteration

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:52 (eleven years ago)

skinny jeans was a retro thing too though right?

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:52 (eleven years ago)

feel like ultimately there are only so many shapes but i dont think any of those looks gained popularity out of people wearing vintage clothes or something, those obvs people take inspiration from days of yore

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:56 (eleven years ago)

I like pleated pants. I think they are hated for their 80s incarnation. but with a high waist they're nice!

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:56 (eleven years ago)

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:57 (eleven years ago)

those pants look so good

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:58 (eleven years ago)

pleated pants imo are so much harder to get right, they need tailoring and cuffs and nice heavy fabric and all these things that are lost in the name of speed and convenience.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 02:59 (eleven years ago)

pleats are just kinda an advanced look if u have some huge ill fitting chinos theyre obvs not gonna improve the situation which is what most people associate them with, i have a suit w pleated pants tho its just a single pleat

pleated chinos are something i've never seen work

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 03:01 (eleven years ago)

Yah my suit pants have just a single pleat xp

, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 03:02 (eleven years ago)

like cotton fabric has no natural drape so why would you pleat it? pleats rely entirely on nice draping.

not really pleat related... just suit shape

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 03:04 (eleven years ago)

every look improved by those walls

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 03:04 (eleven years ago)

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 03:06 (eleven years ago)

foxy music!

rip van wanko, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 03:08 (eleven years ago)

ive been really into wide-leg suits for a few years - eddie redmayne in 'my life with marilyn' being a particular touchstone for the sort of look im into. def get some looks when i wearing like pleated chinos with a really baggy leg but you have to be the change you want to see in the world and all that

≖_≖ (Lamp), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:12 (eleven years ago)

im not ready for wide legs but i never got super into skinny pants neither

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:14 (eleven years ago)

i feel like the key to making them look proportional is wearing your trousers higher on the waist than is normal now.

I was just recently starting to get annoyed at the ubiquity of skinny suits with super narrow lapels. It's nagl for a lawyer imo very insubstantial

the first person i remember wearing really skinny jeans was in snr year of high school this artist dude was dating a friend of mine and she told me he bought girls jeans because he couldnt find boys jeans that were tight enough and the whole time she was dating him we just referred to him as 'girl jeans'

≖_≖ (Lamp), Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:19 (eleven years ago)

yes the stretchy girls jeans

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:20 (eleven years ago)

feel like there was a noise thread where this phenomenon was discussed at length

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:21 (eleven years ago)

Haha I had totally forgotten about pop culture references to "tight jeans" rather than "skinny jeans"

from the outside looking in turn of the century hipsters seem like the catalysts for the skinny pant thing althoug i feel like it didnt hit #menswear until like 2004/5 - actually the movie 'stay' with ewan mcgregor and naomi watts i remember watching that and thinking about how awesome mcgregors suits looked. he was rocking the very tailored suits cut short at the cuffs with bare ankles thing in that which is the first place i saw it

I remember my cool friends buying skinny jeans around 2001/2002. but I didn't buy jeans until like 2007.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:36 (eleven years ago)

my early adapter friend was also the one who loaned out his strokes cd to everyone to copy in early fall 2001.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:36 (eleven years ago)

oh wait that's early adopter isn't it? I just realized.

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:37 (eleven years ago)

lol

lag∞n, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:37 (eleven years ago)

there were no adaptations, just skinny jeans as purchased

chinavision!, Tuesday, 18 November 2014 04:38 (eleven years ago)
