slim cut tailored look has prob been around for almost ten now

tho w/in that there have obvs been diff shapes/styles

actually tight t-shirts and highwater pants became cool mid-90s (thinking hardcore/emo scene), was that the influence? although you can trace any trend backwards endlessly if you want to I suppose.

feel like tho yeah emo guys wearing girl jeans was def an influence on skinny jeans then from the more establishment fashion side came the little suits and fitted looks

I always thought skinny suits were a bod thing

uh I mean mod thing

arent mods from like the 1960s tho

followed by a mad men thing (even if their suits weren't actually that skinny)

well yeah I just figured that's where the style always points

tight suits, narrow lapels, skinny ties. just a little more exagerated each iteration

feel like ultimately there are only so many shapes but i dont think any of those looks gained popularity out of people wearing vintage clothes or something, those obvs people take inspiration from days of yore

I like pleated pants. I think they are hated for their 80s incarnation. but with a high waist they're nice!

pleated pants imo are so much harder to get right, they need tailoring and cuffs and nice heavy fabric and all these things that are lost in the name of speed and convenience.

pleats are just kinda an advanced look if u have some huge ill fitting chinos theyre obvs not gonna improve the situation which is what most people associate them with, i have a suit w pleated pants tho its just a single pleat

Yah my suit pants have just a single pleat xp

like cotton fabric has no natural drape so why would you pleat it? pleats rely entirely on nice draping.

ive been really into wide-leg suits for a few years - eddie redmayne in 'my life with marilyn' being a particular touchstone for the sort of look im into. def get some looks when i wearing like pleated chinos with a really baggy leg but you have to be the change you want to see in the world and all that

im not ready for wide legs but i never got super into skinny pants neither

i feel like the key to making them look proportional is wearing your trousers higher on the waist than is normal now.

I was just recently starting to get annoyed at the ubiquity of skinny suits with super narrow lapels. It's nagl for a lawyer imo very insubstantial

the first person i remember wearing really skinny jeans was in snr year of high school this artist dude was dating a friend of mine and she told me he bought girls jeans because he couldnt find boys jeans that were tight enough and the whole time she was dating him we just referred to him as 'girl jeans'

from the outside looking in turn of the century hipsters seem like the catalysts for the skinny pant thing althoug i feel like it didnt hit #menswear until like 2004/5 - actually the movie 'stay' with ewan mcgregor and naomi watts i remember watching that and thinking about how awesome mcgregors suits looked. he was rocking the very tailored suits cut short at the cuffs with bare ankles thing in that which is the first place i saw it

I remember my cool friends buying skinny jeans around 2001/2002. but I didn't buy jeans until like 2007.

my early adapter friend was also the one who loaned out his strokes cd to everyone to copy in early fall 2001.

oh wait that's early adopter isn't it? I just realized.
