When a stylist changes salons I think here if you call the old place they will usually tell you where he or she went to? If they wanted your business, they should have kept your stylist happier w her job so she didn't leave. I followed my fave to her new place a few years back and I get a discounted rate for loyalty. It all works out.

Yup. I followed my beloved stylist from one salon to her current salon and then to her house when she quit work to be a stay at home mom and then back to her current salon when she was like "fuck that" and went back to work.

This sounds like such a faff. When I lived in NYC, I used to just go to Jean-Louis David every 6 months, present them with a photo of Alex James and say "put that on my head" and I would go away happy regardless of which technician applied the razor crop.

I think that was the problem, though, that this time I omitted a photograph. I assumed, stupidly, since the last man told me that he had left my details (e.g. what customised hair colour he used) on file that I wouldn't have to explain it all again. (I took along a photo of two Bauhaus students sharing a compromising cigarette in a way that left the implicit style desired quite obvious. The hair I got was actually nothing like either woman had on their head, but signified the same amount of "butch".)

I don't really want to have to develop a ~personal relationship~ with a stylist. Oh my god that is the nightmarish kind of social thing that makes me not get my hair cut ever again.

I got my hair cut today, and I am not happy.

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 14 November 2014 20:47 (nine years ago) link

They cut off too much. And I had pictures!

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 14 November 2014 20:48 (nine years ago) link

I miss my witch hair.

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 14 November 2014 20:48 (nine years ago) link

How short is it?

carl agatha, Friday, 14 November 2014 20:55 (nine years ago) link

Oh no! Too short is horrible! (complaining mine is too long & fluffy but too short definitely the worst!)

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 20:58 (nine years ago) link

It's shoulder length, and I would have liked it about six inches longer.

I am also annoyed that they blow dried the waves out so I'm going to have to wash it again tonight.

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 14 November 2014 21:43 (nine years ago) link

Also before the cut everyone told me "you should get it cut and donate it" and this annoys me soooo much.

They gave me my cut hair. I think I'm going to use it for spells.

tokyo rosemary, Friday, 14 November 2014 22:22 (nine years ago) link

I took a razor to my nape to get rid of the flyaway hairs. If you have a nice nape you may not understand this, but my hair tends toward the center where it makes a rat tail. Just naturally. If you have cute little nape hairs that curl towards your ears like they like being there, you are probably my sworn enemy or something.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:23 (nine years ago) link

No, no, no, IO, you have it so backwards!

A good nape-line is hairs that point straight down and twine towards the centre so that you get a nice point.

Totally unlike mine, which are bewitched curly devil-hairs that make a break for my ears, or just generally like to escape and cause mayhem. This is BAD. I should really just get an undercut to dispose of those fuckers.

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:30 (nine years ago) link

Wait I can fix this let's trade.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:32 (nine years ago) link

Are you OK with being ginger?

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:33 (nine years ago) link

I've always wanted red hair actually.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:33 (nine years ago) link

Deal, let's swap.

I found a new pic of my current hair hate/crush where that hair looks just particularly BRUTAL (and also, more crucially, more messy than normal, so it would look more like the hair upon mine own head) and I keep reminding myself that winter is cold and I should wait until spring but my god I want that hair.

Even if I will not look like *that*, (not least because I don't wear anywhere near that amount of make-up, in fact, at all) I will just look like a potato with brutalist hair.

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:36 (nine years ago) link

SHOW IT NOW.

This is the hair-spiration thread, we must see it.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:39 (nine years ago) link

No, no, no, no, no, I'm so ASHAMED of who it is.

(it's a great fucken haircut, tho.)

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:39 (nine years ago) link

????? No excuses. Is it Taylor Swift??? I'm down with that.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:40 (nine years ago) link

Come on, it's way, waaaaayyyyy worse than Taylor Swift.

Wait I'm making a shortlist:

Miley Cyrus
Rihana
David Bowie
...

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:42 (nine years ago) link

Justin Bieber.

Although for the record the Justin Bieber hairstyle is basically just "The Lesbian" so I'm not sure you can even say it's technically "his."

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:43 (nine years ago) link

FINE, I'll post it.

https://38.media.tumblr.com/751640ac4f17d1ce8ccf0ae4a8ff6a20/tumblr_nf1wetvqxq1rjw8sqo1_500.jpg

There, now you have hairpes.

It's kinda "Weimar Lesbian" meets "bedraggled goth dragged through a hedge backwards" which is much more achievable in my climate than the usual heavily ironed version.

(Not sure it would work in ginger, or without that much mascara on a daily basis.)

I AM SO ASHAMED.

I don't know who that is, so don't worry.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:52 (nine years ago) link

LOL, 30 seconds after I posted it on Tumblr to get the image online, one of my friends reblogged it adding 'WHO EVER SAID THAT HAIR WAS OK" so I'm guessing that's shock, horror and a "no" all round.

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 22:53 (nine years ago) link

I was trying to find the sketch comedy video where a cute boi tries a bunch of difft wigs at the hairstylist's and then says, "Oh what the hell, just give me the lesbian" and it's a haircut I've had 50 times, but in my search for "hairstyles 'the lesbian' " I came across a lot of awesome hair.

I know, I know, I know, and Goon Tie has told me 100 times it's time to claim that hairstyle back, but I am still ashamed.

Nicki Minaj - The Pink Floyd (Branwell with an N), Friday, 14 November 2014 23:00 (nine years ago) link

I think basically you have to be impossibly tall and skeletally thin and have cheekbones like Gothic arches to carry that hairstyle off effectively.

I feel like my forehead is too large not to have bangs, plus, my hair is very thick, and having bangs reduces its volume. Do ppl with thin/thinner hair have the opposite problem?

just to provide an accurate timeline for how long it takes me to reach my breaking point -- got the hairs cut yesterday.

three months pass...

found my new favorite styling product for mah curly hair

Paul Mitchell Twirl Around. Just a little bit emulsified between yr palms, smoothed through the hairs and scrunched a bit, air dry and BOOM big old fat curls that are super soft and not at all crunchy or stiff or gross feeling. I tend not to do much hair-drying unless I'm going out-out, so the airdry is a huge plus. Never really explored Paul Mitchell products before but this one is a good un

it's like a softer, everyday version of the TiGi Curls Rock ie huge fat curls but Curls Rock was like drag queen mousse, you could wear that shit in a hurricane and yr hair wouldn't move.
