cad, i'm not necessarily opposed to #1. i'm not sure what the hell to do

these shoes fit! i'm not sure when i started wearing new balance. i do know that chucks didn't work out. i'm a size 14 or something

You don't have to get that deep into the cutting edge of fashion or w/e but you can def pick out better versions of a uniform, if you want to up your game in a simple way. I mean you can buy 8 of the same shirt if you like it and it fits and you don't want to think about it 8 days out of 10, but you can gradually increase the quality and/or fit of that basic shirt.

Sorry, sneaker peeps, but I have to say looking good in white sneakers is not for rookies.

hm. never heard the white thing tbh until now. i do have a "uniform" right now but it's not great. it needs to improve.

feel like just take that intention and move forward with it and you will make progress just like anything

tho prob like 99% of people feel like they cld dress like more of an adult in this day and age

I don't know what you look like, m, but off the top of my head I'd say lose the sneaks and upgrade the fit of your jeans maybe? If you're wearing the same ones a lot of the time, a better pair would have a broad effect.

if you have no direction at all, look out for a photo of someone or even a dude on the street who you think looks good and shamelessly bite whatever elements appeal to you.

it's easy to look ok if not super fashionable in the same basic thing and not have to worry about clothes if you pick out a few staple items. for me, it's a slim fit oxford shirt, slim fit dark jeans, and desert boots. basically the most boring outfit imaginable but i sometimes even get compliments on my clothes.

i can't overemphasize enough how much i don't do clothes shopping

i mean, i might look terrible. not really sure at all. but i don't think i do and i never have to think about clothes. find three or four things you like and then get them in a bunch of different colors and patterns.

I had another idea! Get a better haircut style. It's something that you only have to do every 5 weeks or however long, and it requires absolutely no day-to-day effort. Also, carpenter jeans? Unless you're an actual carpenter, put those on hold for camping and grungy days and find a more fitted jean in a dark color (since it's fall anyway).

i have snow boots and hiking boots. maybe i should wear the former

and i think i'm gonna ditch these type jeans tbh

nb, in addition to the outfit i suggested to markers sometimes i mix it up and go for a neo-grunge filtered through normcore aesthetic that ends up looking sloppy but is actually quite advanced

i was actually going to legit offer if it wouldn't be too weird!

i guess like, if you want to dress differently, the first step would be to find some stuff you like. just look at lots of pictures of clothes and see if there's anything where you say, i would like to wear that.

next, and i can't overemphasize this enough, it totally sucks but you must go to stores and try things on. try on things that you don't think will fit. try on things that might look dumb. grab 8 pairs of pants and try them all on, and start to notice how they fit differently.

this exercise has at times sucked for me because due to my body type and habits i'm like right on the cusp of normal mens sizes and larger person sizes, but i had to power through and i learned a ton about clothes that way.

also ppl have posted tons of good ideas so far.

also for the love of god don't dress like that pic of jason segel.

markers I think Lamp makes a good point but you can also watch a lot of anime and video games and copy that too which is my mo

oh yeah i didn't notice that second shirt that is apparently over the white collared shirt. n/m, i do not dress like jason segal and never would.

anyways to chime in, i mostly would echo IO's posts above. find some things that fit you well and make you feel good wearing them. if you really hate shopping and don't know how to shop for yourself, bring along a friend whose style you admire, maybe buy them lunch or something, and really trust that they can see how you look in clothes in a way that you can't. once you find some stuff you feel good wearing you'll be well on your way to knowing how you want to present yourself imo.
