If even the model looks like he's about to shoot up a school, it is probably nagl for the rest of us.

Hier Komme Die Warum Jetzt (Hurting 2), Monday, 16 June 2014 15:20 (twelve years ago)

Tailoring Q: if I wear a 33, is it better to (A) buy a 34 and get it taken in, (B) buy a 32 and get it let out, (C) neither, just don't buy pants that aren't your size

Hier Komme Die Warum Jetzt (Hurting 2), Friday, 20 June 2014 15:59 (twelve years ago)

depends on the fit and cut of the pants!

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 June 2014 16:11 (twelve years ago)

in general it's easier to take in than let out, but if the smaller pants fit great everywhere except the waist then those would be better

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 June 2014 16:12 (twelve years ago)

Hmm. So if it's a more "relaxed fit" cut to begin with it sounds like it might be better to get the smaller size.

Hier Komme Die Warum Jetzt (Hurting 2), Friday, 20 June 2014 16:14 (twelve years ago)

yup

call all destroyer, Friday, 20 June 2014 16:16 (twelve years ago)

Ok I need jeans advice. Until now I've pretty much only owned uniqlo and standard Levi's. I want at least one nicer pair that will look less sulu by going out. I don't really wan to spend over 100 if that's realistic (tell me if it isn't). I would also prefer something without too much pisspants wash or whip marks or cigarette hole type treatment.

'arry Goldman (Hurting 2), Sunday, 29 June 2014 12:53 (twelve years ago)

Lol less sulu. I think that was supposed to say less shlubby.

'arry Goldman (Hurting 2), Sunday, 29 June 2014 12:54 (twelve years ago)

Just go to uniqlo

, Sunday, 29 June 2014 13:09 (twelve years ago)

yeah if you want stretchy girl jeans

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 29 June 2014 14:37 (twelve years ago)

black 511s look fuckin nice, especially the ones with the white stitching

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 29 June 2014 14:38 (twelve years ago)

plus they are stiff and 100% cotton

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Sunday, 29 June 2014 14:39 (twelve years ago)

Maybe these Landsend? I've not worn them, but the chinos from the same line are great and don't fit as tight as that picture. Depends on your build. I think you can still return them at your local sears.

Levi 501 STF in rigid indigo always look good. Go with proper waist size for traditional loose fit, or actually smaller than your real waist for better fit. Don't believe their sizing instructions, and don't machine wash.

Unbranded is okay if you don't mind a low rise look. Go 21oz.

other jeans I'm intrigued by around $100 http://www.wrangler.com/store/WRG_STORE_US/en_US/style/13mwzr.html#categoryId=17672 broken twill

http://www.luthersdenim.com/products/the-47

if you're will to pay more, there are all sorts of artisanal jeans out there from Williamsburg, San Francisco, Montreal, or Osaka to go with your mustache and work boots.

Zachary Taylor, Sunday, 29 June 2014 16:08 (twelve years ago)

i'm pretty curious about this but haven't placed an order yet: https://www.weargustin.com/

call all destroyer, Sunday, 29 June 2014 16:18 (twelve years ago)

What I've read about Gustin - Some people love their stuff, but the crowd source nature of it leads to long waits and limited options for return. They've had some quality control issues but have taken care of the customers. Consensus seems to be there is equal or better out there for the price (or more, if you are willing to shop around), but if they are kickstarting exactly what you must have then they are great.

There is a kind of a collector attitude going on around the internet, and the inevitable backlash. I'll get a waxed jacket or some heavyweight denim sooner or later. I could wear those Desert Duck Canvas Chino's to work.

That's my problem working retail; no jeans allowed, but I want to look good while doing labor.

i have reservations about that shirt

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 16:36 (eleven years ago)

yeah I do too. I like the print itself but there are issues with a lot of the details. Looks like probably a "n".

'arry Goldman (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 16:39 (eleven years ago)

also, could not find the "fun shirts" thread for some reason

I just want a stylish top or even a hoodie for autumn. Bought one but had to take it back cos it had a huge neckline that just didn't look right on me. But finding anything else has been hard. Can I still wear a hooded top at 34 and not look like a dad who's just taken up jogging? What are the alternatives for a fairly casual but cool looking top and how can I comnine it with t shirts or jackets these days?

www.perry.como (dog latin), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 16:50 (eleven years ago)

American apparel hoodies are good but people will probably just think you're Burial since you're in the uk?

, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 16:57 (eleven years ago)

he is burial

mattresslessness, Tuesday, 2 September 2014 17:02 (eleven years ago)

dog latin shelter

slip jig (seandalai), Tuesday, 2 September 2014 17:04 (eleven years ago)

I tend to wear cotton or wool zip-up round-neck hoodless tops in autumn/winter - great for layering and you still get to pretend you're not Burial. YMC sale usually a good source but it's the wrong time of year for that.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 13:54 (eleven years ago)

grrr... i bought some delightful knitted jumpers last year but they barely lasted the winter before they shrank and/or lost their shape. reluctant to go and buy a load all over again.

zip it shrimpy (dog latin), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 13:56 (eleven years ago)

also, are we going to see a return to nordic and christmas-jumperesque styles again this year or is that played out?

zip it shrimpy (dog latin), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 13:56 (eleven years ago)

i hope you followed the two cardinal rules of knitwear care--1) never hang them, 2) unless you get some kind of ridiculous stain only dry clean them once at the end of the season.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:00 (eleven years ago)

no i did not do either of those things.

but thanks.

zip it shrimpy (dog latin), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:09 (eleven years ago)

cad what do recommend for intermittent freshening?

carl agatha, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:21 (eleven years ago)

yeah, good point. I guess 100% real wool shouldn't really smell but other fibres would.

zip it shrimpy (dog latin), Tuesday, 23 September 2014 14:24 (eleven years ago)

what other fibres? top man poly mix type stuff is not designed (in both senses) to last longer than a season anyway.

caek, Tuesday, 23 September 2014 15:01 (eleven years ago)

cotton?
