one month passes...

going to europe in july, finally caved and bought some worishofers:

http://a3.zassets.com/images/z/1/8/9/5/1/6/1895163-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg

today was my first day wearing them and the first person to compliment me on them was... a middle aged, grandma-looking woman

just1n3, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 00:55 (twelve years ago)

I love them and I particularly love the colour! Although I am middle-aged. But not grandma-looking.

ljubljana, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 01:34 (twelve years ago)

She definitely does not look like a Grandma. And those shoes are adorable!

omg i love them

i don't meant to pile-on the grandma-ness but I got INSTANT flashbacks of my beloved nan, she had a pair that looked just like that but in navy blue and it makes me really happy to look at that photo

i would totally wear those!

Nails thread not on ILS & no search fnctn in Zing, so.. Are fake toenails a thing? Hear me out :( I'm a lifelong ingrown big toenail sufferer so this winter I cut insanely deep Vs into them to try to fix. It's working, but not fast enough and toenail baring season is upon us. Was thinking maybe I could paste fakes on top of my big toes then paint and hide the bad stuff? I hate bare foot season :( xp

xps i def feel a bit more confident rockin these shoes with two arm tatts and big leg tatt! makes me feel less grandma-y. i would've gotten the white actually, but they didn't have my size (although the do now, so i'll see how these wear over the next month and maybe get white eventually).

they're really comfy of the sole of my foot - just enough height that i walk a bit more elegantly, flat enough that i don't get ball pain (lol). but there was some definite rubbing/blistering in a couple spots round my toes, although i think that'll go away. i wore than for about 4 mi of walking today, right off the bat, so i think they fared pretty well.

just1n3, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 03:40 (twelve years ago)

omg my dog just ate them

i put them on the other side of the dog gate and she managed to snag one with her paw and pull it through while i was in the shower, something she's never done before :( :( :(

just1n3, Thursday, 8 May 2014 18:09 (twelve years ago)

just1n3, Thursday, 8 May 2014 18:09 (twelve years ago)

i finally FINALLY found my perfect boots:

http://a2.zassets.com/images/z/2/0/1/1/1/4/2011142-p-MULTIVIEW.jpg

i am so in love with these, but they were on sale in only the black and now of course i also NEED the brown :/

just1n3, Monday, 16 June 2014 20:04 (eleven years ago)

Costco had FloJo and Havaianas flip flops on Friday, so I bought a tan faux-leather pair of flojos, and a pair of purple havaianas - ready for summer!

I also bought a pair of those roman sandals that everyone was wearing last summer. but now that I have them I'm not sure how to wear them. I don't wear short skirts or skinny jeans really. but they're super comfy!

All the disadvantages of a moccasin crossed with the aesthetic nightmare of a grandma's nursing shoe wedge sole.

i didn't ever buy those boots but i did just score a white pair of lacers that i have wanted to find in my size/at a decent price/in good condition for over a decade and honestly i feel like i am emitting a radioactive light because i'm so excited about them

groundless round (La Lechera), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 21:36 (eleven years ago)

I bet they're rad!

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Tuesday, 3 March 2015 21:38 (eleven years ago)

I've been trying to find them for so long that I've convinced myself that they're THE shoes I want. Regardless I'm going to wear them til they fall apart bc that's what I do with boots. Hooray!

groundless round (La Lechera), Wednesday, 4 March 2015 01:24 (eleven years ago)

They're finally here and more ivory than white but I'll take it. Being fully stocked on boots that aren't threatening to spring a leak/disintegrate is like having a stocked fridge. Ahhhhhh.

groundless round (La Lechera), Monday, 9 March 2015 19:05 (eleven years ago)

Ahhhh! You might be able to brighten them up with white polish or glaze or whatever is right for the finish on the leather?

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Monday, 9 March 2015 19:43 (eleven years ago)

It's ok - I like em ok this color -- less LOOKATME and more useful.

groundless round (La Lechera), Monday, 9 March 2015 19:53 (eleven years ago)

Oh okay.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Monday, 9 March 2015 20:01 (eleven years ago)

no but i followed the link and those are CUTE

mattresslessness, Monday, 9 March 2015 21:53 (eleven years ago)

Thanks! I'll try to post a better one when not on phone. They're my all time favorite lace up boots. No chintzy zippers, always lace up tight against the leg.

groundless round (La Lechera), Monday, 9 March 2015 22:09 (eleven years ago)

these are the proper white ones, but i haven't ever found any at a reasonable price that are in decent condition (not decrepit)
the ones i got are ivory, but they are brand new, never been worn, and were $20, which is a good price for a new high quality leather boot

groundless round (La Lechera), Monday, 9 March 2015 22:36 (eleven years ago)

so they were a bargain .......................... to boot!

mattresslessness, Monday, 9 March 2015 22:38 (eleven years ago)

lol u know it

Here's my deal with shoes:

I buy a pair of shoes that I really like, and they are more or less the only shoes that I wear every day until they fall apart in 6 months, and then I buy another pair of shoes.

This is a p bad cycle. My plan rn is to go out and spend $2-300 on maybe 3 or 4 pairs of great shoes that I will rotate with different outfits and they will last a long time. I want different types of shoes (sneakers, dressier, etc) that are not like $150 a pair. Are Nordstrom Rack and Century 21 my best bet here? Does anyone have any insider shoe pro-tips? Online shopping is not an option for shoes w/ me.

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 12 March 2015 13:22 (eleven years ago)

Nordstrom Rack is good for low cost good quality shoes. I got both pairs of Cole Haans from there

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 12 March 2015 18:54 (eleven years ago)

yeah i'd go to a place like nordstrom rack or even tj maxx/marshall's isn't bad
also if you find some you like and know what size you want, ebay is full of shoes.

in other footwear news, the boot fairy has visited me again! my friend found a pair of insanely buttery barely-worn frye boots in my size for $24 and they are on my feet right now. this is a score beyond my comprehension.

groundless round (La Lechera), Thursday, 12 March 2015 19:22 (eleven years ago)

ooooh nice

difficult-difficult lemon-difficult (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 12 March 2015 19:36 (eleven years ago)

think I'm gonna try to get

  • pair of tan wingtips
  • pair of black dressy shoes
  • pair of black/grey casual "tennis shoes", sneakers but nothing too athletic or new balancey
what else should I get? rn I wear black wingtips all the time w/ every outfit, makes me feel cool and spiffy wearing like cutoffs and a cut up Sleater Kinney tank top and a flippy brim cycling cap and shiny black wingtips w/ no socks

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 12 March 2015 19:43 (eleven years ago)

sorry to contradict VG here but according to spouse, Cole Haan's men's shoe quality has gone to shit and he "won't even waste the 25 bucks to get them resoled and polished up--not worth it."

He is a firm believer in dropping big coin on Alden's. Claims they are the most comfortable shoes he has ever worn; they look great; and the quality is phenomenal. When they need a little refresh, you drop them off at your local Alden store (or mail in or whatever) and for like $50 they come back like brand new and ready to go another 3 years before the next refresh.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 12 March 2015 20:33 (eleven years ago)

warning: when I say big coin I mean BIG coin.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 12 March 2015 20:34 (eleven years ago)

Carmina's are also amazing. I've got a pair of those and spouse is eyeing a pair for himself.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 12 March 2015 20:36 (eleven years ago)

i don't even have coins that big!! my budget is literally 1/10th of that, like $50-70 a pair

gybe horses (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 12 March 2015 20:41 (eleven years ago)

ebay? I realize I am forty something DINK and that is why I have nice shoes but also. . . bunions.

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 12 March 2015 21:07 (eleven years ago)

What size shoe do you wear, if S gets hit by a bus on the way home I give u all his fancy shoes!

mom tossed in kimchee (quincie), Thursday, 12 March 2015 21:09 (eleven years ago)

Also: will someone please explain why chucks cost as much as they do? IT MAKES NO SENSE!!! I would post on IA but in this case it is totally RA. Those things can't cost more than $3 per pair to manufacture. WTF.
