i think thrifting hasnt really changed you just have less time and patience and higher standards that you did when you were 16

max, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:12 (twelve years ago)

nah the emergence of different standards of textile and clothing manufacture from the 70s and coming to a head with "fast fashion" means that thrift stores are now full of junk that was literally only supposed to be worn once

plax (ico), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:15 (twelve years ago)

^ v much agree although i also think the other thing that changed thrifting was etsy.com

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:16 (twelve years ago)

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:22 (twelve years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:23 (twelve years ago)

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:24 (twelve years ago)

fwiw I've been getting sick of the dry-cleaned outdoorsman look for a while now so I'm glad at least something else is taking over

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:26 (twelve years ago)

dry clean the whole outdoors maybe?

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 21:27 (twelve years ago)

but successful thrifting takes monomaniacal dedication i think

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 22:27 (twelve years ago)

idk develop an eye for like virtually anything

plax (ico), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:01 (twelve years ago)

It will be weird when normcore trickles down to actual normals and there's like an even normaler version of normal clothes as a result.

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:03 (twelve years ago)

xp lol w/e go on enlighten me then

the most i'd cede is i might be out 2-3 years specifically but either way on no account has that look not been and gone a long time ago here

r|t|c, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:12 (twelve years ago)

this thread reminded me of when sometime in like 2008 this girl who thought she was a really good artist told me that she was going to dress up as like 'a normal person, yknow in jeans and running shoes' for a costume party we were both attending. this made me think she was an idiot

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:17 (twelve years ago)

ok im being unfair some of this yes but it is clearly lacking like parkas and shit

plax (ico), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:18 (twelve years ago)

rtc how far back do you think normcores antecedents go in east ldn? i feel some people i met were doing the dev haynes thing in like 2011 but it wasnt quite like office drone ca. 1997 or wknddad stuff also all the ldn people i follow on instagram just started doing this like, 6 months ago

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:21 (twelve years ago)

not really meant as a challenge just curious, stuff like this fascinates me all out of proportion to how much it matters

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:21 (twelve years ago)

stuff like inner/outer shorts, everyone in 1461s, white socks black sandals definitely mean 2010ish. the jean jacket is p unacceptable tho.

plax (ico), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 23:23 (twelve years ago)

me and lamp ahead of the normcore game

just be really handsome and wear only the t-shirts you get for free from yr work + levis 501s - mensstyle 2013

max, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:17 (twelve years ago)

The trick is to wear jeans which make your asses most flattering to gay men.

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:18 (twelve years ago)

"fuck it, I'm just gonna wear black jeans and black tees" is not a normcore move

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:19 (twelve years ago)

Norm core is about fashion minimalism hurting

max, Thursday, 27 February 2014 16:22 (twelve years ago)

that kind of fashion minimalism is timeless and not in the spirit of normcore

caek, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:25 (twelve years ago)

I need a normcore keymaster

Bryan Fairy (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:25 (twelve years ago)

you guys are overthinking and underthinking normcore simultaneously

max, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:27 (twelve years ago)

black tee tucked in to black jeans is 100% totally normcore. untucked? thats a different story

max, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:27 (twelve years ago)

I like how quickly a consensus is forming around normcore based on one NYMag article and two days of posting.

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:27 (twelve years ago)

hey you didn't say you were tucking the shirt in. normcore non plus ultra.

caek, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:34 (twelve years ago)

yeah jeez plz provide tucking infos up front next time

lag∞n, Thursday, 27 February 2014 17:39 (twelve years ago)
