Ok that sounds hella dreamy but I'm kinda hoping this is a cover story for "he is a spy"

:)

I've felt better about my hair lately than I have in a long time. Got some new color, it helped.

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 03:54 (twelve years ago)

What color? I was perusing the dye selection at Walgreens today but didn't get anything.

E, I was going to bring a pic of J Lawrence as a reference when I got my hair cut but figured my bangs were too short.

Thanks for the nice words, everyone!

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 04:18 (twelve years ago)

io, I was really blonde until my mid-20s!

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 04:20 (twelve years ago)

CA - I love her hair so much. It was pretty much exactly what I had in mind last time I got it cut and she cut hers like the day before and i was like YES THAT'S IT! I think my bangs are just about long enough now. Like Laurel though I have a pesky cowlick I'm gonna have to ask my stylist about. We'll see! Anyway, the more I look at it the more I love yours and I can't imagine anything easier with a baby!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 14:10 (twelve years ago)

So the lady went so so much shorter than I wanted and I am in that omg I look like a man phase and today there's this big work thing and I should be wearing a jacket but I put it on this morning and REALLY felt like a man and :(. I took it off. This weekend my friend took some pics and I hated it so much I cried. I'm starting to feel better about it but it's just not what I had in mind at all really. It'll grow. I think this might be the haircut traumatic enough that I grow it out again.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 13:23 (twelve years ago)

Aghh just came here to post similar! She particularly cut my fringe too short while I wasn't looking and now I look like a dick

U look lovely tho, you'll style it out no probs

kinder, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 13:59 (twelve years ago)

Also not like a man

kinder, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:00 (twelve years ago)

not like a man at all! although i know the feeling.
if i can make a suggestion, using a waxy product to make it look kind of messy-but-styled might help attain the j lawrence 'do and give it a deliberate 'look', which i always find helps me to feel more feminine. also i wore tons of eye makeup.

i think i liked aveda molding clay? i think? it smells really good. the only thing is that the one that's matte/the one i like is from the men's line :-/
don't worry -- it'll grow, and when it does, you will still have your beautiful face!

also kinder i have no idea what you look like but something tells me you don't look like a dick

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:25 (twelve years ago)

Aw, thanks K and LL. It's just a shock, I think and I am liking it more and more. I think in a couple weeks when it's just that much longer I'll like it. I just literally don't get how she went from the pictures I gave her (FIVE PRINTED OUT FROM ALL ANGLES) to this. The other cut was def longer with much longer bangs. This is just like crazy short for me and beign tall I feel like a weirdo pinhead with an enormous body now.

LL - I think you're right. I got the B&B Semi-Sumo which is pretty good but I feel like now that I have to look smart for work I can't mess it up too much during the day. Same with OTT eye make-up but I did do black winged liner and big lashes today. It definitely helps.

And Kinder I remember what you look like from a pic a long time ago (no stalker just good memory) and I can't imagine you being dick-like.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:41 (twelve years ago)

Also, fat face.

OK OK I'm done complaining but it's amazing how crappy getting a cut you're not happy with can make you feel.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:42 (twelve years ago)

That will grow out a little so fast, and you'll like it much better in even 2 weeks. I really think you can pull off a lot of styles, E, including this one!

ljubljana, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 15:53 (twelve years ago)

Oh but that's lovely! I'm sorry you don't feel good/yourself with that cut but it's objectively a pretty nice haircut, it looks like! :) LL knows her styling stuff and I'm sure she is otm here.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 15:55 (twelve years ago)

Your stylist def did not follow what you wanted, BUT it still looks pretty - you have a great face for any kind of short style.

just1n3, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:20 (twelve years ago)

I get that it wasn't what you wanted but it really does look fine - better than fine. It looks great, actually.

ljub is right that it will grow out really fast.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:25 (twelve years ago)

Oh hey guys thanks so much. I know that sounds dumb but I've been feeling really bad about it and this helps a lot and I think you're right that in a couple weeks I'll probably be much happier with it. <3 In the meantime I'm gonna mess around with that pomade stuff I have tonight as per LL's advice.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:51 (twelve years ago)

this is the stuff i liked

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:53 (twelve years ago)

my whole hair just looks too small for my face now which is weird. It'll grow out soon, I just feel a bit weird at work, like a chubby 6-yr-old even though I know it doesn't really look like that!

kinder, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 18:06 (twelve years ago)

That's how I feel!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 18:39 (twelve years ago)

i feel that way regardless of my haircut bc i have a small amt of hair and a kinda big head
it's not the end of the world!

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 18:44 (twelve years ago)

as the owner of an actual big head/moon face I feel u on the pinhead worries ENBB --- that being said, I will say here what I said ages ago; your face reminds me almost exactly of Tinkerbell, you have such lovely fine features that a short cut really brings out your eyes and seriously you do not need to hide behind a whole lot of hair.

It'll take some getting used to your face being 'out in front' but believe me, from where we all sit, this is not a bad thing at all. Daunting, sure. But sometimes scaring yourself into a bit of extra confidence with a new 'do is not such a bad learning curve to master <3

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 22:30 (twelve years ago)

I have definitely been to "I have a haircut I hate and now I hate my life" land; it helps me to think of hair as a renewable resources and to recall what someone once told me about men's haircuts: "a bad haircut is only two weeks away from a good haircut!"

Stay strong! You look fab btw :)

quincie, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:31 (twelve years ago)

also VG OTM with learning to live face-front. I spent a lot of years hiding behind a lot of hair. It really was a form of hiding!

quincie, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:32 (twelve years ago)

yeah, the Face-Front Feeling is what I miss most about no longer having short hair.

ljubljana, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:59 (twelve years ago)

My short hair unfortunately shows my remaining bald spot on the back! But the deep bangs still give me something to hide behind. I'm more like...ears front, now.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Thursday, 23 January 2014 03:54 (twelve years ago)

God I need a cut so badly. I've probably got another...month to go? before I can spend money on that (although if I get a real interview in there I'll have to). Ima try and get the nape cleaned up tomorrow.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Thursday, 23 January 2014 03:56 (twelve years ago)

My hairdresser just offered that as an alternative to a fringe trim! I am so taking her up on that. IO, I was also doing the thing of trying to make my too-long hair WIDE before I could be bothered to get it cut...

kinder, Thursday, 23 January 2014 13:06 (twelve years ago)

i recently found out that putting your hair in a 'towel turban' after the shower leads to massive hair breakage. now I am a drippy mess post-shower. This had better make my hair GLORIOUS.

homosexual II, Thursday, 23 January 2014 16:04 (twelve years ago)

What does one tip a hairdresser in this United States of America? And where do you leave it? (Always. A more confusing question to me). This is for a Beatrice haircut but I want to kind of get her a mini makeover cut because her style has slipped a little what with the imposition of the white polo/ khaki pants soul sucking school uniform and going through a crazy growth spurt. So maybe something a little more quality than kids supercuts = bigger tip?

mean-spirited schadenfreude-loving spewer of sleaze (sunny successor), Friday, 24 January 2014 02:35 (twelve years ago)

I tip 20% for a grown up haircut. Most salons I've frequented take the tip along with the payment. Sometimes you add the tip to your credit card/check and they'll give you cash back to out in a little envelope that you can either leave up front or go hand to the stylist. I think it's totally fine to say something like "Id like to tip $X. Can I add it to the card? Should I leave that with you?" Nobody will think that's weird.

carl agatha, Friday, 24 January 2014 02:39 (twelve years ago)

I usually tip 20%. A lot of salons have envelopes at the front you can put them in and write their/your name on it. Either leave it at the front desk for them or in the drawer by their stand.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Friday, 24 January 2014 02:40 (twelve years ago)

In other words - exactly what I just CA just said. lol. x-post.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Friday, 24 January 2014 02:40 (twelve years ago)

I tip more than 20% but only bc my hairdresser is the raddest & I've been with her for years

I settle up the bill & give her the tip in cash separately

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 24 January 2014 03:59 (twelve years ago)

but yeah 20 is p standard

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 24 January 2014 03:59 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, something like that! Between $15-20, whatever I have on me in cash.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 24 January 2014 05:12 (twelve years ago)

I guess that's actually more than 20% because my haircuts aren't that expensive. I've probably given her a tenner before. But I always go to the same person so it all works out eventually.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 24 January 2014 05:13 (twelve years ago)

So one week later and I'm loving this a whole lot more. I think that it's grown a tiny bit and settled some and it just feels less crazy short and a lot cuter. Also, I've been using the wax and styling it and I think I'm going to really love it in a couple weeks.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Friday, 31 January 2014 14:59 (twelve years ago)

I'm glad the cut is working now for you, E!
I bought my mom some blonde hair dye but we didn't get around to doing it when she was here and my orange is super faded and I kinda feel like just throwing the blonde on to see how it looks. I have backup orange.. Should I?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 1 February 2014 00:57 (twelve years ago)

Everyone who knows me as a redhead always says it's much better when shown any pictures of me as a blonde. But it's February, I'll be at my most pale.. I guess most people think blondes look best when tanned, but I've always liked myself pale with blonde hair.

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 1 February 2014 00:58 (twelve years ago)

(People say the red is better, that is..)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 1 February 2014 00:59 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, do it!

You can always go back to red so why not? Granted I may be biased because you were blonde when I first met you but I liked you with blonde!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Saturday, 1 February 2014 01:23 (twelve years ago)

Alright I will!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 1 February 2014 01:27 (twelve years ago)

:D

If you really don't like it just remember you can do it red any time and it's something different so why the hell not try?

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Saturday, 1 February 2014 01:35 (twelve years ago)

lol it does not appear to be lightening very much, perhaps I am simply destined to stay orange.. Or needed to do some bleaching if I expected to see any real change. Oh well. I'll leave it in a while more and see where it ends up!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 1 February 2014 02:41 (twelve years ago)

from your old blonde pics on fb, i think that you look great with that color - but the red is just more *you*.

just1n3, Saturday, 1 February 2014 03:02 (twelve years ago)

You guuuuuuys, so my stylists offers free "clean ups" for the neck on short hair, and I went for one today because I can't afford a real haircut but it was out of control. So then she basically gave me a whole haircut! I said, let's keep this to a reasonable trim, so I can pay you for a real one later! and she was like, I appreciate that but don't be silly, I'm happy to help you go a few more weeks. Then she wouldn't even accept a tip.

My horrible urchin hair was really bringing me down and it was beautiful and Stef just totally took care of me. It was lovely.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Saturday, 1 February 2014 03:22 (twelve years ago)

Wow that's fantastic io!

Thanks J :) I agree reds have become my signature, it'd be nice to change it up, though!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 1 February 2014 03:24 (twelve years ago)

I think I gave her like four hugs. It's really meant a lot to me lately when people have taken care of me because they know I don't have any money. They've been feeding me and getting my drinks--my neighbor keeps hanging bags of wine and beer on my door handle like a little booze fairy--and not letting me pay for lunch or anything, and I feel so cradled in my community/all my communities. Bless.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Saturday, 1 February 2014 03:25 (twelve years ago)

That is a wonderful feeling. The first few months after I got laid off, people were nice about doing little acts of kindness for me and it gave me that same happy community glow. :)

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 1 February 2014 03:26 (twelve years ago)

aw orbit that made me teary, so glad yr ppl are taking care of u
