"WILL WORK FOR BOOTS"
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 13 December 2013 21:55 (twelve years ago)
I ordered them. Fuck it. I haven't owned winter boots since...never in my adult life. I bought some hiking boots in college but never replaced them once they went, and I've just been pulling up my wool socks ever since.

Those are beautiful. I've had my eye on similar - hadn't seen those particular ones.
― ljubljana, Tuesday, 17 December 2013 10:29 (twelve years ago)
And you've been working your ass off and will be hired.
Well 2013 was the year of rounding out my shoe wardrobe with the functional things I don't usually own. Sensible flat oxfords (with spikes, naturally), then SNEAKERS (god love me), now rain boots (albeit with a little heel). Short of nuclear winter, I feel ready for whatever comes.

i'm ready to drop some $$$$ on some nice boots, probably frye, but i'm feeling a bit wary of the leather soles: i'm tough on my shoes, and these would be an everyday boot, wondering how often i'd have to resole them and how expensive that typically is.

ooh those are really niceI need some flat ankle boots and have done for the past two years. I have some cheap crappy quality ones as placeholders until I find my dream ones but I'm wearing them all the time and wondering if I should buy a backup pair for when they inevitably break!
― kinder, Monday, 6 January 2014 00:10 (twelve years ago)
yeah i have a great pair of dark brown ones from miz mooz that i've worn pretty much nonstop this fall/winter, and they're super comfy, rugged but not bulky. i've been looking for a black pair to alternate them with. i really like that shaft height a lot, it works perfectly on my short legs.
― just1n3, Monday, 6 January 2014 00:13 (twelve years ago)
Re leather soles: Before you wear them, take them to the shoe place and have them apply a grooved rubber layer. Less slippery, wears better, can be easily taken off and replaced.
― Horreur! What are this disassociated lumps of (in orbit), Monday, 6 January 2014 14:18 (twelve years ago)
excellent idea!!
― just1n3, Monday, 6 January 2014 17:33 (twelve years ago)
I wore my Frye's with leather soles pretty lightly for 2 seasons and then really hard for another season. Now they need resoled.

the first ones are kinda nifty but the second ones feel very basic and pedestrian
― queen bey backers (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 19:35 (twelve years ago)
the first ones are cool!
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 7 January 2014 19:54 (twelve years ago)
i should hope sandals would be pedestrian

ya the first ones also have a zipper in the back; I am pretty sure those are the ones I am keeping.

OK guys I am ISO a certain kind of Clarks that I don't think they make anymore (I went through the entire clarks site) or else I want to find a similar shoe.
They were brown soft-leather casual shoes, I guess you'd call them oxfords. They had a rounded toe and a visible rounded seam on top following the contours of the toe piece, if that makes sense. People used to say they were "old man shoes" or "sensible shoes." Anyway I really liked them and I can't find a similar shoe. This would have been around 2000 or so.

actually the style was vaguely like thishttp://www.orthoticshop.com/images/D/yhst-58036391854343_2054_671.
but less clunky/boxy looking
― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Thursday, 6 March 2014 04:29 (twelve years ago)
these?
― just1n3, Thursday, 6 March 2014 04:46 (twelve years ago)
Not quite. But that's the right idea. I don't think it had the Clark's logo on it.

I'm all about resoling shoes lately. The brown shoes I bought back in July got pretty worn because I wore them like every other day for eight months in the city, but a new sole and a little polish and they look like a new pair for less than half what I paid for the shoes.
― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 2 April 2014 14:11 (twelve years ago)
do you have leather soles replaced, or do you have rubber applied? or both?
― chinavision!, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 14:24 (twelve years ago)
On these shoes I actually forgot to ask and they just put leather soles on them. I would have preferred a little thin rubber on the bottom of thhe leather, because they're a little slick now. I like it when they do the thin rubber over just a section of the leather so you get the traction without making the sole look too bad.
― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 2 April 2014 14:35 (twelve years ago)
I eBayed shoes recently that prob either need a resole or rubber layer. Guess I'll prob do rubber since I do so much walking? Won't be beautiful but...
― chinavision!, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 15:00 (twelve years ago)
I think I'm really sold on eBay for shoes btw
― chinavision!, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 15:01 (twelve years ago)
you can get very thin rubber. But if the sole and/or heel is uneven, it will probably need to be redone anyway.
eBay for shoes might be tough for me because I have super-wide feet and I always have to try on a bunch of pairs to find one that works.
― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 2 April 2014 15:02 (twelve years ago)
I have wide feet to but have gotten shoes stretched at the cobbler
― chinavision!, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 15:04 (twelve years ago)
I dunno maybe I just lucked out. Such a savings though that I'll try it again
huh, never occurred to me to get shoes stretched -- do they still look good?
― james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 2 April 2014 15:08 (twelve years ago)
I didn't notice any difference really, they just fit better.
― chinavision!, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 15:37 (twelve years ago)
I mean I can get shoes for $70 on eBay that would be $400-$500 otherwise, and with proper care they can be made to last.
― chinavision!, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 15:38 (twelve years ago)
I can't remember the last time I bought dress shoes new.
used shoes, shirts from century 21, and socks from uniqlo. that's the way. pants are the hard part.

today was my first day wearing them and the first person to compliment me on them was... a middle aged, grandma-looking woman
― just1n3, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 00:55 (twelve years ago)
I love them and I particularly love the colour! Although I am middle-aged. But not grandma-looking.
― ljubljana, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 01:34 (twelve years ago)
She definitely does not look like a Grandma. And those shoes are adorable!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 02:00 (twelve years ago)
omg i love them
i don't meant to pile-on the grandma-ness but I got INSTANT flashbacks of my beloved nan, she had a pair that looked just like that but in navy blue and it makes me really happy to look at that photo
i would totally wear those!

Nails thread not on ILS & no search fnctn in Zing, so.. Are fake toenails a thing? Hear me out :( I'm a lifelong ingrown big toenail sufferer so this winter I cut insanely deep Vs into them to try to fix. It's working, but not fast enough and toenail baring season is upon us. Was thinking maybe I could paste fakes on top of my big toes then paint and hide the bad stuff? I hate bare foot season :( xp
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 7 May 2014 02:05 (twelve years ago)
xps i def feel a bit more confident rockin these shoes with two arm tatts and big leg tatt! makes me feel less grandma-y. i would've gotten the white actually, but they didn't have my size (although the do now, so i'll see how these wear over the next month and maybe get white eventually).
they're really comfy of the sole of my foot - just enough height that i walk a bit more elegantly, flat enough that i don't get ball pain (lol). but there was some definite rubbing/blistering in a couple spots round my toes, although i think that'll go away. i wore than for about 4 mi of walking today, right off the bat, so i think they fared pretty well.
― just1n3, Wednesday, 7 May 2014 03:40 (twelve years ago)
omg my dog just ate them
i put them on the other side of the dog gate and she managed to snag one with her paw and pull it through while i was in the shower, something she's never done before :( :( :(
― just1n3, Thursday, 8 May 2014 18:09 (twelve years ago)
i guess cork tastes real good
Awwww! Max ate my glasses once. Tough luck :(
