i would agree for a sportcoat, but this is outerwear and i feel like the navy is a little more versatile.

i can't wear a light brown tweed jacket because my entire head is pink/orange/light brown and i'd look silly

caek, Friday, 13 December 2013 20:08 (twelve years ago)

Band of Outsiders navy blazer made of a breathable nylon that supposedly you can crunch into a ball and it will not wrinkle

why would you crunch your blazer into a ball?

call all destroyer, Friday, 13 December 2013 20:21 (twelve years ago)

It's for those times you need to go to a business meeting in your suit straight off the plane, then change into the blazer for your harvard club event.

maybe you can get BLØG as your monogram

caek, Tuesday, 25 February 2014 01:26 (twelve years ago)

Man, I find those bags super prissy-looking. They remind me of when I would take the train home from college and switch at Trenton, and you'd be able to spot the Princeton kids because of their immaculate department-store-catalog-looking clothes.

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 01:30 (twelve years ago)

dont beat me up

^ so many lols

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:42 (twelve years ago)

haha

max, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:44 (twelve years ago)

calling that specific look "normcore" is extremely revealing

max, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:45 (twelve years ago)

bahaha this guy

seems i'm guilty of this.. for my birthday i asked my mom to get me "a couple of shirts that look like what you'd buy for dad" from eddie bauer

diamonddave85‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 17:50 (twelve years ago)

I think this is what I was shooting for in the past when I was trying to nail down seinfeld-as-inspiration

dev hynes is definitely too 'core' for 'norm' though!

chinavision!, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 18:00 (twelve years ago)

also reminds me of Dunham's "kewl dad" in that Girls episode. Maybe she was onto something.

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 18:02 (twelve years ago)

Of course like every ironical adoption of "regular amurican" style it has to be done with subtle touches to make sure you don't actually mistake the person for a regular amurican

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 18:03 (twelve years ago)

there's def a big casual/new balance sneakers/track pants thing going on w/art people, but I don't think it's the same as a.) what someone like dev is doing or b.) what some of the late 80's weekend dad aesthetic folks are doing

chinavision!, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 18:05 (twelve years ago)

and there's just not a lot of distance between the latter two things and just the fashion revival cycle doing what it does

chinavision!, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 18:06 (twelve years ago)

lotta dudes in dem buttery brown leather bomber jackets these days

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:36 (twelve years ago)

would love to see a hipster go all out with this look

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:40 (twelve years ago)

p sure its happening rn but you know better attention to detail

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:53 (twelve years ago)

first i was thinking the tneck is maybe a bridge too far but then like naah

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:54 (twelve years ago)

ive been trying to find a good turtleneck to wear under a jacket for about a year now

diamonddave85‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:54 (twelve years ago)

so does anyone know where i can find a good turtleneck to wear under a jacket?

diamonddave85‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:55 (twelve years ago)

in my neighborhood you're more likely to see an actual 45-yr-old unironically dressed like that than a hipster on the cutting edge

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:56 (twelve years ago)

i bet lamp knows xp

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:58 (twelve years ago)

i think i first approximated this look as 'chandler from friends ca. 1997' but was excited to see how early 90s it had gotten lately. but calling it 'normcore' is just n/l

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 19:58 (twelve years ago)

the only normcore look I rock is
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8KUBniOn9Ok/Trx9mb5UMHI/AAAAAAAAAJI/gWEVHNA4cm8/s1600/norm_peterson.jpg

james franco tur(oll)ing test (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:00 (twelve years ago)

the day i see a stylish young person rocking a mock tn is when i will know im truly old

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:00 (twelve years ago)

the only turtleneck i own is a 90s black eddie bauer i found at value village that is appealingly boxy. various downtown workwear brands are making turtlenecks again if my instagram is anything to go by tho so you can probably find one with a contemp fit p easy

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:00 (twelve years ago)

i have a friend who is actively trying to bring the mock neck back. it works, i guess. i dont understand fashion

max, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:07 (twelve years ago)

any lol at being like "is this person in a fleece and stone washed jeans in soho a fashionista or normie tourist?!?!? i cant tell"

max, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:08 (twelve years ago)

tuff call

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:09 (twelve years ago)

i think this kind of stuff is part of the inevitable reaction to like, #suitup, the cult of 'tailoring' and other general menswear trends over the last decade? i think positioning dressing like this as 'just dressing like, yknow, regular people or w/e' is obv super disingenuous and i think that chinavision is right in saying the specifics arent necessarily the same but i think theres a general shared exhaustion with certain ideas of 'style' thats both part of fashions cyclical nature and the lifecycle of aesthetic moments

Lamp, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:13 (twelve years ago)

can i let my selvage age out or nah

lag∞n, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:14 (twelve years ago)

ya i agree with that lamp, and chinavision otm upthread

max, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:17 (twelve years ago)

but like did ppl stop thrifting over the last decade? these people all look like they were thrifting but picked out terrible shit instead of decent shit.

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:18 (twelve years ago)

coincidentally, i started watching top of the lake yesterday and noted how snazzy GJ looked http://i.imgur.com/KfGrJ1D.jpg

diamonddave85‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ (diamonddave85), Wednesday, 26 February 2014 20:18 (twelve years ago)

people did stop thrifting i think or thrifting got too hard cause everyone was thrifting or something
