Like cross-crossed over the top of my head?

carl agatha, Wednesday, 6 November 2013 17:35 (twelve years ago)

just leave two little horns of hair over your temples and then spike them up with egg whites if you're expecting guests

sweat pea (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 November 2013 17:42 (twelve years ago)

and maybe an extra horn on top for flair

two months pass...

As alluded to on 77, I got a butch haircut and here it is.

I think it looks fine, but it's not quite what I was going for. The problem being that I still don't know entirely what that was. But any misgivings I have are easily solved by showering, which takes me five minutes now that I don't have a mess of hair to contend with.

carl agatha, Monday, 13 January 2014 23:42 (twelve years ago)

it looks so good on you! And marginally harder for babies to grab!
Someone gave me some 'blowout spray' today which I'm not sure what to do with. Actually she has hair a bit longer than yours - bit pixie ish.

kinder, Monday, 13 January 2014 23:45 (twelve years ago)

um I really like that on you!! you have a good face shape and beautiful eyes to set off a cut like that. I dig it

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 13 January 2014 23:46 (twelve years ago)

hair appointment booked for saturday. my hair is so long I can put it into a ponytail again and that is UNACCEPTABLE. also I need to tell her I'm going to a wedding so she can maybe help me fancy it up a little bit too idk

but I'm so into the asymmetical, totally going to go for it again

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 13 January 2014 23:47 (twelve years ago)

That's as short as my hair has ever been, so just for kicks, here's the longest it's ever been (even as a child), c. 2001:

And photo documentation of my long history of butch haircuts (I'm the one with the truck):

Okay, need to close Flickr now.

xp agreed on grabby babies! Of course I'm wearing giant baby magnet hoops in that picture, but she's still got a week or two before she starts grabbing things in earnest (it's most just flailing at this point) so I'm trying to enjoy my hoops while I can.

carl agatha, Monday, 13 January 2014 23:49 (twelve years ago)

Asymmetrical! Do it! It's super fun!

I have no idea what blow out spray even is.

carl agatha, Monday, 13 January 2014 23:51 (twelve years ago)

I feel like sunny is the best person to address that question.

carl agatha, Monday, 13 January 2014 23:51 (twelve years ago)

Fantastic cut, carl - your eyes look amazing.

ljubljana, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 01:08 (twelve years ago)

Love the cut!

Here is my Taiwan hairs did story. Apparently Taiwan has a Hair Washing Culture like none other, so I decided to give it a try. It pains me to post this because it is too wonderful and altogether fleeting (I'm only here for a month) but here is what happens:

1. You are sat down into a comfortable chair and and a warm moist towel is applied to your neck. This feels great because it is chilly outside!

2. The towel is removed and a dry towel is tucked around the edge of your shirt to protect it from. . .

3. . . . the fragrant oils used in an AMAZING neck and shoulder massage for like 15 minutes of bliss.

4. You are led to the washing bowl, which features another comfy chair, a foot rest, and some ingenious head support in the bowl so your head does not dangle backwards from your neck.

5. Shampooing with head massage for like 10 minutes

6. Rise, then repeat #5

7. For some reason, no conditioner? I am going to have to learn enough Mandarin to ask for that.

8. Back to the styling chair for blowdry/styling to your liking. They will also put in curlers or straighten if you want.

Here's the kicker: total cost for an hour and twenty minutes of pampering, TEN USofA DOLLARS!

quincie, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:03 (twelve years ago)

and no tipping, ha!

quincie, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:04 (twelve years ago)

Whoa.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:07 (twelve years ago)

Yeah I'm going to splurge once a week as a reward for getting my school assignments turned in. Trying to decide if I should stick with the salon around the corner or if I should try branching out.

quincie, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:13 (twelve years ago)

Branch out! Compare and contrast head massage techniques!

ljubljana, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:15 (twelve years ago)

You have a good face, Carl - I think you could rock pretty much any length or style!

just1n3, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:28 (twelve years ago)

Agree 100%

and quincie -- Is your spouse a pilot or a spy or how are you in Mexico and then Japan and then Taiwan?! I've been wanting to ask for so long that I've lost touch with whether or not this is an invasive question. Apologies in advance, and that sounds like quite a shampoo.

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:33 (twelve years ago)

I love it, Carl.

Getting my hair cut and colored this weekend. Going for this cut (which is p much what I have right now that it's grown out a bit) and this color.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 02:46 (twelve years ago)

carl, you are just SO CUTE. And I love your haircut. It's kind of like mine except I have a massive cowlick in the front that forces me to keep a big sheaf of asymmetrical bangs.

And I can't believe what a blonde baby you were!

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 03:10 (twelve years ago)

That is a perfect cut for you ENBB!

Not an invasive question at all, LL! Spouse and I are having a joint midlife crisis of the very most awesome kind. We quit our corporate jobs, rented out our house in DC, and are rapidly depleting our savings as we globe-hop for a year. The first three semesters of my MSW program at BU are all online, so I'm having to work a bit around that, but it isn't too hard.

We kinda figured we could do this while our parents are all still in good shape, and we are still in good shape, and hell if we have to work another year past whenever we might have originally retired, totally worth it. We r v. lucky, of course, to be able to pull this off.

quincie, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 03:12 (twelve years ago)

Ok that sounds hella dreamy but I'm kinda hoping this is a cover story for "he is a spy"

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 03:46 (twelve years ago)

:)

I've felt better about my hair lately than I have in a long time. Got some new color, it helped.

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 03:54 (twelve years ago)

What color? I was perusing the dye selection at Walgreens today but didn't get anything.

E, I was going to bring a pic of J Lawrence as a reference when I got my hair cut but figured my bangs were too short.

Thanks for the nice words, everyone!

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 04:18 (twelve years ago)

io, I was really blonde until my mid-20s!

carl agatha, Tuesday, 14 January 2014 04:20 (twelve years ago)

CA - I love her hair so much. It was pretty much exactly what I had in mind last time I got it cut and she cut hers like the day before and i was like YES THAT'S IT! I think my bangs are just about long enough now. Like Laurel though I have a pesky cowlick I'm gonna have to ask my stylist about. We'll see! Anyway, the more I look at it the more I love yours and I can't imagine anything easier with a baby!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 14 January 2014 14:10 (twelve years ago)

So the lady went so so much shorter than I wanted and I am in that omg I look like a man phase and today there's this big work thing and I should be wearing a jacket but I put it on this morning and REALLY felt like a man and :(. I took it off. This weekend my friend took some pics and I hated it so much I cried. I'm starting to feel better about it but it's just not what I had in mind at all really. It'll grow. I think this might be the haircut traumatic enough that I grow it out again.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 13:23 (twelve years ago)

Aghh just came here to post similar! She particularly cut my fringe too short while I wasn't looking and now I look like a dick

U look lovely tho, you'll style it out no probs

kinder, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 13:59 (twelve years ago)

Also not like a man

kinder, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:00 (twelve years ago)

not like a man at all! although i know the feeling.
if i can make a suggestion, using a waxy product to make it look kind of messy-but-styled might help attain the j lawrence 'do and give it a deliberate 'look', which i always find helps me to feel more feminine. also i wore tons of eye makeup.

i think i liked aveda molding clay? i think? it smells really good. the only thing is that the one that's matte/the one i like is from the men's line :-/
don't worry -- it'll grow, and when it does, you will still have your beautiful face!

also kinder i have no idea what you look like but something tells me you don't look like a dick

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:25 (twelve years ago)

Aw, thanks K and LL. It's just a shock, I think and I am liking it more and more. I think in a couple weeks when it's just that much longer I'll like it. I just literally don't get how she went from the pictures I gave her (FIVE PRINTED OUT FROM ALL ANGLES) to this. The other cut was def longer with much longer bangs. This is just like crazy short for me and beign tall I feel like a weirdo pinhead with an enormous body now.

LL - I think you're right. I got the B&B Semi-Sumo which is pretty good but I feel like now that I have to look smart for work I can't mess it up too much during the day. Same with OTT eye make-up but I did do black winged liner and big lashes today. It definitely helps.

And Kinder I remember what you look like from a pic a long time ago (no stalker just good memory) and I can't imagine you being dick-like.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:41 (twelve years ago)

Also, fat face.

OK OK I'm done complaining but it's amazing how crappy getting a cut you're not happy with can make you feel.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 14:42 (twelve years ago)

That will grow out a little so fast, and you'll like it much better in even 2 weeks. I really think you can pull off a lot of styles, E, including this one!

ljubljana, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 15:53 (twelve years ago)

Oh but that's lovely! I'm sorry you don't feel good/yourself with that cut but it's objectively a pretty nice haircut, it looks like! :) LL knows her styling stuff and I'm sure she is otm here.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 15:55 (twelve years ago)

Your stylist def did not follow what you wanted, BUT it still looks pretty - you have a great face for any kind of short style.

just1n3, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:20 (twelve years ago)

I get that it wasn't what you wanted but it really does look fine - better than fine. It looks great, actually.

ljub is right that it will grow out really fast.

carl agatha, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:25 (twelve years ago)

Oh hey guys thanks so much. I know that sounds dumb but I've been feeling really bad about it and this helps a lot and I think you're right that in a couple weeks I'll probably be much happier with it. <3 In the meantime I'm gonna mess around with that pomade stuff I have tonight as per LL's advice.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:51 (twelve years ago)

this is the stuff i liked

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 16:53 (twelve years ago)

my whole hair just looks too small for my face now which is weird. It'll grow out soon, I just feel a bit weird at work, like a chubby 6-yr-old even though I know it doesn't really look like that!

kinder, Wednesday, 22 January 2014 18:06 (twelve years ago)

That's how I feel!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 18:39 (twelve years ago)

i feel that way regardless of my haircut bc i have a small amt of hair and a kinda big head
it's not the end of the world!

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 18:44 (twelve years ago)

as the owner of an actual big head/moon face I feel u on the pinhead worries ENBB --- that being said, I will say here what I said ages ago; your face reminds me almost exactly of Tinkerbell, you have such lovely fine features that a short cut really brings out your eyes and seriously you do not need to hide behind a whole lot of hair.

It'll take some getting used to your face being 'out in front' but believe me, from where we all sit, this is not a bad thing at all. Daunting, sure. But sometimes scaring yourself into a bit of extra confidence with a new 'do is not such a bad learning curve to master <3

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 22 January 2014 22:30 (twelve years ago)

I have definitely been to "I have a haircut I hate and now I hate my life" land; it helps me to think of hair as a renewable resources and to recall what someone once told me about men's haircuts: "a bad haircut is only two weeks away from a good haircut!"

Stay strong! You look fab btw :)

quincie, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:31 (twelve years ago)

also VG OTM with learning to live face-front. I spent a lot of years hiding behind a lot of hair. It really was a form of hiding!

quincie, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:32 (twelve years ago)

yeah, the Face-Front Feeling is what I miss most about no longer having short hair.

ljubljana, Thursday, 23 January 2014 01:59 (twelve years ago)

My short hair unfortunately shows my remaining bald spot on the back! But the deep bangs still give me something to hide behind. I'm more like...ears front, now.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Thursday, 23 January 2014 03:54 (twelve years ago)

God I need a cut so badly. I've probably got another...month to go? before I can spend money on that (although if I get a real interview in there I'll have to). Ima try and get the nape cleaned up tomorrow.
