I found my much love green Smashbox primer at ulta the other day. I'm so thrilled. No one carries it anymore. Not even Smashbox.

woah did you see that hummingbird over there? anyway, meth (sunny successor), Friday, 18 October 2013 21:12 (twelve years ago)

four weeks pass...

am experimenting with makeup looks for my brither's wedding in Feb. here are my new drugstore cosmetic recommendations

Milani "baked" blush in Luminous - super soft, v shimmery without being ott. love! $8

Loreal Infallible eyeshadow in amber something - cream to powder shadow. rich pigment, great metallic look. goes on super smooth & stays put forever, it seems. $8 - which is high for one pot imo but it works so well it's worth it.

Wet N Wild gel liner - maybe my best purchase of all. $3! little pot & a brush. goes on super soft & smooth, is waterproof, deep black. need a smaller brush imo, the one it comes with is kinda big & janky, lines go on a bit too fat

one month passes...

I just splashed out on some Shu Uemera eyelash curlers (they were <$20) after years of thinking there's no point as they don't look any different from my crappy drugstore ones.
They are sooo good! Totally worth it - curling my eyelashes is kind of important for me as they are long but either stick straight out or down which can make me look like I'm falling asleep - NAGL at work. These make me look wide awake without that sticky-uppy spiky eyelash look.

kinder, Sunday, 22 December 2013 14:07 (twelve years ago)

also I am back to using primer after remembering how good it is and it's making a real difference

kinder, Sunday, 22 December 2013 14:08 (twelve years ago)

I have been using the same Shu eyelash curler for nigh on fifteen years! Should it ever die or go astray, I will definitely replace it with the same thing.

quincie, Sunday, 22 December 2013 16:18 (twelve years ago)

I haven't worn make up since October 28. I think I forgot how.

carl agatha, Sunday, 22 December 2013 18:49 (twelve years ago)

I'm a new convert to benefit's " they're real" mascara. the$10 travel size is perfect - it's cheap and it didn't la st long enough to get clunky (I don't wear it often enough to use it up in a timely fashion).

I got a bunch of lip stuff from my MIL for Hanukkah+bday+xmas:
- dior creme de rose lip balm: it's ok, I use it at night.
- fresh sugar rose lip treatment: also ok, nice tint

glad I didn't fork out$50 of my own money f or those BUT I also go t:
- dior addict lip glow: love this, great colour, perfect nude lip

just1n3, Sunday, 22 December 2013 19:25 (twelve years ago)

ha yeah me too re 'they're real'. I don't think it lasts that long anyway.

kinder, Sunday, 22 December 2013 19:57 (twelve years ago)

Benefit erase paste: TERRIBLE. No coverage on dark circles, cakey, settles into lines.

Seashorea classic stippling brush: sheds like crazy. Not impressed, considering it was over $30

just1n3, Saturday, 28 December 2013 16:02 (twelve years ago)

lol ph typing: that should have read "sephora classic stippling brush"

thebalm bahama mama bronzer: a+ would buy again. looks pretty dark in the pan but and lots of pigment gets on the brush at the lightest touch, but it blends out really well and is matte and not orange.

benefit highlighter stick: eh, it's ok i guess. i got a sample of it from sephora. it's too shimmery and not glowy enough, if that makes sense.

just1n3, Sunday, 29 December 2013 23:38 (twelve years ago)

While on vacation I saw my sister's bathroom and realized that by some standards I have very little make-up, by which I mean I don't need a storage unit to hold it. Jeez louise. And I was begrudging myself a new mascara to replace my dried-out one (but maybe not the $30 version).

Horreur! What are this disassociated lumps of (in orbit), Sunday, 29 December 2013 23:53 (twelve years ago)

I reupped my mascara this week -- tossed the urban decay big fatty which has now kinda dried & was starting to make my eyes itch, and got the classic Great Lash which I have tbh never used before now. Hot damn it's a good buy for v little $

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 30 December 2013 01:14 (twelve years ago)

thebalm mary lou-manizer: pretty nice. i think i like it better than benefit's high beam.

i've been on a makeup kick lately, not buying lots of shitty stuff that i'll never use just to fill my makeup box, but trying to get reasonable quality replacements for the stuff i actually like to use a lot. got a set of real techniques brushes coming soon, too. if only i could truly master the concealer/foundation game :/ :/ :/

just1n3, Tuesday, 31 December 2013 21:41 (twelve years ago)

These are helpful reviews, just1ne! I have been not-buying makeup these days to save $$$, but I am gonna have to bite the bullet and re-up on my Chanel foundation to the tune of $50, ouch.

quincie, Wednesday, 1 January 2014 01:30 (twelve years ago)

And oh man I am in Tokyo and yesterday I saw these Hakuhodo makeup brushes that have a cult following on makeupalley and they looked amaaaaaaaazing.

quincie, Wednesday, 1 January 2014 01:38 (twelve years ago)

I bought a few NYX eyeshadow pencils to try out. I know, you envy my life of excitement

Hey Ladies! I forgot to tell you I got my Pantone "skin IQ" at Sephora over the holidays. Took five minutes with some crazy digital skin reader but, woah, so many choices! Also, the Sephora lady6 did the rest of my face and cured my phobia of bronzers

(apologies if these images turn out crazy large. I tried to cut them, down):

The LOL thing was I had bought the smashbox CC cream in that same shade a week or so before so don't think you're so smart super skin reader machine.

I was 2R06.

Why did I get matched for so many expensive foundations...

still in love with my estee lauder doublewear, foundation wise.

homosexual II, Friday, 10 January 2014 18:37 (twelve years ago)

i've been wearing makeup for the first time in weeks and it's like having a whole new face!

mambo jumbo (La Lechera), Friday, 10 January 2014 18:48 (twelve years ago)

Haha yes! Man sometimes I feel so much "prettier" when I've only put foundation/concealer on, just evening out my redness or w/e feels like putting on a new face even though the lines are all the same as the old one.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Friday, 10 January 2014 18:55 (twelve years ago)

I pretty much never wore makeup in Mexico because of heat/in-and-out-of water thing, but now that I am back in civilization, I find that the ritual of putting on makeup (my standard version is foundation/undereye concealer/blush/mascara/groom brows, what's yours?) is a soothing transitional activity between sleepytimes and "out in the world" times.

Also orbit OTM!

quincie, Saturday, 11 January 2014 00:54 (twelve years ago)

a good/pleasing foundation is one of life's small...hmm not pleasures...satisfactions? idk.

nyx primer reviewed by coma-girl upthread is actually pretty good. I have been using it instead of primer, even though it's technically 'base' not primer...it stays for the whole day and works great

how does anyone feel about eyeshadow pencils? I have been experimenting with them and I don't really get the appeal? I don't think I like creamy eyeshadow much anyway, my eyelids are such greasepits that nothing like that stays put, even with primer working overtime. I'm wondering if I should try a layer of powdered shadow over top to maybe set it? idk

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 11 January 2014 01:32 (twelve years ago)

I don't think I know how to use an eyeshadow pencil unless it's for high-drama eye creases like for stage makeup or super mod eyes. I have been really into dark brown pencils for lining my lower waterline though--I've been putting liner on the upper lid for ages but never the lower, and it makes a big diff to how much my eyes like have a place in my face.

Orson Wellies (in orbit), Saturday, 11 January 2014 01:38 (twelve years ago)

yeah lower eyeliner is good -- I like it for going-out. And as a person who wears glasses it feels like at least that way SOME of my eye-makeup efforts will be noticeable

nothing worse than doing my makeup and then realizing you can't see any of it b/c glasses

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 11 January 2014 01:41 (twelve years ago)

VG I find pencils hard to work with, whether as a liner or a shadow, except maybe as a bottom liner, which I find easier for some reason.

IO I have you found a liner that actual stays put on your waterline? Do tell!!!

quincie, Saturday, 11 January 2014 01:53 (twelve years ago)

I've worn make up once since late October. I do have an elaborate, layered moisturizing routine these days, though.

carl agatha, Saturday, 11 January 2014 01:53 (twelve years ago)

I have not worn eyeliner in forever; in honor of this thread I am going to put some on RIGHT NOW!

xpost hi carl!!! How are you and jeff and ivy doing???
