what does a man wear to a summer wedding?

― HOOS it because...of steen???? (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Saturday, October 12, 2013 12:45 PM (2 hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

well may is p. borderline for "summer" but regardless i think the correct answer is "a suit in a seasonally appropriate weight and material that matches the overall formality of the event."

in other words, do you know what your sister is expecting? what's the groom wearing? as someone who's going to be in the wedding pictures the ppl getting married sort of owe you at least high-level guidance.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 12 October 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

i like j. crew pique polos.

anonymous jazz majors (Matt P), Saturday, 12 October 2013 20:33 (twelve years ago)

hoos: charcoal suit + white shirt + a tie

caek, Saturday, 12 October 2013 21:57 (twelve years ago)

yup. for a spring wedding, if it's ok with your sis, you might be able to do a lighter grey also.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 12 October 2013 21:58 (twelve years ago)

cad otm. Maybe even prince of wales check or similar?

woof, Saturday, 12 October 2013 22:39 (twelve years ago)

cosign on the jcrew pique polos.

ordered this tonight. i think it seems like a solid fall coat but i wish they weren't sold out of the light khaki.

hoos, whatever you do stay away from seersucker and linen. resist the temptation to gatsby it up.

Treeship, Sunday, 13 October 2013 05:21 (twelve years ago)

i like that green a lot.

anonymous jazz majors (Matt P), Sunday, 13 October 2013 05:24 (twelve years ago)

i have high hopes for it. the problem with online shopping is sizing. hopefully if it's too small i will have time to exchange it before it sells out... it's from "jackthreads.com" and their stuff sells out fast.

Treeship, Sunday, 13 October 2013 05:35 (twelve years ago)

agree seersucker is not a good idea for anyone who's going to be in wedding photos but the only reason i'm not strongly advocating for linen is because the wedding is a bit too early for it. linen is awesome.

lag∞n, Sunday, 13 October 2013 14:10 (twelve years ago)

those quoddys are rad

call all destroyer, Sunday, 13 October 2013 15:09 (twelve years ago)

Wait, how do you know those are knock-offs? And shouldn't they be less than $74 in that case??

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Sunday, 13 October 2013 15:12 (twelve years ago)

its a known knock off site, new ones run like $160 so its a good deal but not a ridic steal, apparently theyre pretty high quality tho, a lot of knock offs are just totally shitty w like soles that wear down after three uses or fed up workmanship and what have you

lag∞n, Sunday, 13 October 2013 15:22 (twelve years ago)

The world is so full of a number of things.

loads of pairs of new balance are about £55 (sterling) - they may not be knock-offs. they just have tons of ltd editions and stuff, which do go up to v high prices.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Sunday, 13 October 2013 15:40 (twelve years ago)

yeah there are cheaper new balance just those one are kinda pricey

lag∞n, Sunday, 13 October 2013 16:10 (twelve years ago)

what winter jumpers are you all wearing? am looking for a fairly basic crew neck at the moment.

i like this as a bit more of a statement tho, kinda reminds me of something my dad might have worn in the 80s.

Evil Juice Box Man (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 15 October 2013 14:12 (twelve years ago)

my sweaters are all really boring--gray, maroon, navy wool. i think i need something in light brown or oatmeal or one of those colors.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 14:50 (twelve years ago)

I've wound up with way too much of my work clothing from Banana Republic and need to introduce some other stuff. I keep picking up a shirt or slacks with 40% off plus some add'l 20% off coupon, so I wind up with pretty good dress shirts for $25 or so -- true non-irons for my lazy ass. But I would like to change it up a little. I've done Charles Tyrwhitt and BB before but sort of disappointed with how the shirts hold up.

if you're worried about boring then try less neutral colors? i mean oatmeal & lt brown aren't exactly thrilling additions to your color palette, be real

I love that burgundy statement jumper!

boxedjoy, Sunday, 20 October 2013 18:57 (twelve years ago)

xp oh i didnt really mean boring in a pejorative way! mostly i'm good w/solid sweaters in complimentary colors.

call all destroyer, Monday, 21 October 2013 00:44 (twelve years ago)

what winter jumpers are you all wearing?

If you can find Vince sweaters priced well at Nordstrom Rack, Marshall's, etc., they're terrific. Pricey at full price, but I've gotten mine for $50-ish.

Does anyone else have to plan ahead for uniqlo visits to make sure they're not wearing the 80% of yr wardrobe you bought at uniqlo?

caek, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:38 (twelve years ago)

lol

lag∞n, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:43 (twelve years ago)

I have like 8 uniqlo shirts and 2 uniqlo shopping shirts

caek, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:44 (twelve years ago)

i dont own that much uniqlo aside from my extensive underwear and sock collection but i did realize i was wearing a uniqlo jacket over a uniqlo sweater the other day and stopped to wonder how that made me feel

lag∞n, Friday, 1 November 2013 21:47 (twelve years ago)

definitely not unique--low? ;-)

max, Saturday, 2 November 2013 00:33 (twelve years ago)

i used to have that issue but not so much anymore, i was just thinking the other day how each item was from a diff brand and this made me happy.

what bags do you all use? been looking for a good day-to-day bag for ages, feels like something worth spending a bit on as you can have it for years, but the options don't seem great.

filson ones seem decent but they are a pricey meatball - http://www.filson.com/products/twill-and-tweed-original-briefcase.70066.html?fromCat=true&fvalsProduct=luggage/briefcases-and-laptop-bags&fmetaProduct=1019
