PICS.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:00 (twelve years ago)

Tomorrow. I look like of haggard today but tomorrow is baby shower day so I am going to spruce up but good and will take a picture.

carl agatha, Friday, 11 October 2013 19:02 (twelve years ago)

oooh!!

Untt (La Lechera), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:06 (twelve years ago)

i'm super bored atm so could you use words to describe it for me?

Untt (La Lechera), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:06 (twelve years ago)

It's asymmetrical, with the left side just a little longer than mid-ear and the right side just shy of chin length, still layered and with bangs, although not quite as short or blunt as I've been wearing them recently. It's pretty hip, actually.

carl agatha, Friday, 11 October 2013 19:13 (twelve years ago)

woah!!

I wanna see!

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:23 (twelve years ago)

That sounds awesome! Lately I have been backpedaling somewhat on going short; whenever I see a picture of myself I am reminded that I have a pin head, which a mass of hair kind of balances out somewhat.

quincie, Friday, 11 October 2013 19:33 (twelve years ago)

My hair is so so so long and out of shape for this cut, I keep trying to mousse it and blowdry it to take up the extra length but it's BAD and I can't afford a haircut at all, for at least another week or 2. Just embarrassing.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

At the moment thanks to the fact that I have a huge phone bill to pay from the CAMPAIGN I worked on, in which she asked me to up my plan and make a lot of phone calls and she'd reimburse me...which she hasn't.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:38 (twelve years ago)

Hrm that's not great.

carl agatha, Friday, 11 October 2013 19:43 (twelve years ago)

Yeah "not great" would describe the whole thing and leave a lot of room to spare.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:45 (twelve years ago)

I'M ONLY TALKING ABOUT THIS BCAUSE WE HAVEN'T SEEN YOUR HAIR YET. To occupy our curious minds.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 11 October 2013 19:46 (twelve years ago)

It's a not great photobooth picture, but you get the idea probably:

quincie, Sunday, 13 October 2013 02:10 (twelve years ago)

that is a great haircut. i love asymmetrical cuts with cool bangs

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Sunday, 13 October 2013 02:16 (twelve years ago)

I love the shorter bangs, they make your eyes pop!

ljubljana, Sunday, 13 October 2013 02:41 (twelve years ago)

dang you look beautiful, carl

just1n3, Sunday, 13 October 2013 03:45 (twelve years ago)

^^

wow. great haircut.

JuliaA, Sunday, 13 October 2013 13:55 (twelve years ago)

love!!!

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Sunday, 13 October 2013 14:15 (twelve years ago)

Ooooh get YOU! You're such a cool lawyer.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Sunday, 13 October 2013 14:17 (twelve years ago)

i saw the new hairs yesterday irl and carl's head looks great! and i didn't mention this at the time, but it's true about your eyes -- having the short bangs pointing directly at them makes them really visually prominent. and they're distractingly pretty.

Untt (La Lechera), Sunday, 13 October 2013 14:45 (twelve years ago)

Aw you guys thanks!!! I was a little iffy on it the first day but I do like it now. And the ease of short hair is so delightful.

carl agatha, Sunday, 13 October 2013 15:27 (twelve years ago)

OH I LOVE IT

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Sunday, 13 October 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)

You look stunning, Carl <3!

woah did you see that hummingbird over there? anyway, meth (sunny successor), Sunday, 13 October 2013 18:54 (twelve years ago)

I think that's such a great cut too, it really makes your eyes stand out!

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Sunday, 13 October 2013 19:01 (twelve years ago)

Blue eyes/dark hair is a dream combo IMO.

woah did you see that hummingbird over there? anyway, meth (sunny successor), Thursday, 17 October 2013 02:48 (twelve years ago)

I like it, too. The blue eyes are mine by rights but the dark hair is provided by the miracle of modern hair color.

When I go on (unpaid) maternity leave and can't afford salon hair color*, I figured it will take one, maybe two, hair cuts to get the color out now that my hair's short and I'm very interested to see what color my hair actually is these days.

*I'm not very skilled at home coloring and the last time I tried, I had tons of gray hair shining through after I finished. My stylist has said that I have strangely color resistant hair so that's a fun fact about me.

carl agatha, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:15 (twelve years ago)

Sorry I'm still back on where you said "unpaid." What the fuck is that?

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:25 (twelve years ago)

The United States of America?

carl agatha, Thursday, 17 October 2013 12:26 (twelve years ago)

ugh

1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:00 (twelve years ago)

But you're a lawyer with a big office...I know unconcern for employees happens at all levels, I guess I'm just surprised.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:00 (twelve years ago)

It's a long terrible story but the short version is I was hired for a project that was predicted to work a specific way with a compensation package that matched what they predicted. It didn't work that way at all, but instead worked like a regular old lawyer job. Although we were told in May (right about when I first learned I was pregnant) our compensation package would be updated to reflect the work we were actually doing, that hasn't happened yet nor is it likely to happen until sometime next year. Maybe. So basically everybody on my team is being exploited terribly and my relief at learning I would get sweet paid maternity leave was unfounded. But I couldn't really go to another job because then I wouldn't have worked there long enough to even qualify for FMLA (you have to have worked about 12 months at least part time to qualify).

Anyway, I will be taking some time to look for another job during my time off because I'm pretty annoyed.

carl agatha, Thursday, 17 October 2013 13:20 (twelve years ago)

Fucking fuck that shit!!!!! I am so fucking mad on your behalf!!! This shit really really drives me crazy about living in the US.

just1n3, Thursday, 17 October 2013 18:15 (twelve years ago)

I have tossed this factoid around here before, but there are three countries in this world with no federal paid parental leave: USA, Swaziland, and Papa New Guinea.

Also, if those bozos hadn't delayed implementation of the employer compliance provisions of the ACA by a year, my employer would have had to change our compensation/benefits package since we all work more than 30 hours/week (by quite a bit sometimes). But noooooooooooooooo bunch of whiny babies couldn't cope so now I don't have paid maternity leave.

carl agatha, Thursday, 17 October 2013 18:20 (twelve years ago)

I don't get paid sick leave, or paid vacation, and def no paid maternity leave. But earn so little that if I had kids I'd have to quit and stay home because I probably earn about the same, give or take, as day care costs.

I guess lucky for me, getting a dog totally pushed me off the fence about having kids and now I def don't want them.

just1n3, Thursday, 17 October 2013 18:28 (twelve years ago)

getting a dog totally pushed me off the fence about having kids

OK for a few seconds I thought you'd had some terrible accident that was stopping you from having kids idk

I don't know how you USAians stand it!! It all makes me so angry and simultaneously thankful for some sense in the UK :(

kinder, Thursday, 17 October 2013 21:27 (twelve years ago)

I figure the 18 weeks of unpaid maternity leave starts to seem like a pretty good deal when you get into 4-5 years of daycare costs. We pay about $140 a week here in the USA whereas that figure is closer to per day in Australia. I'm fact every friend of mine in Australian put their careers on hold for 4 years because daycare was costing near or as much as they were earning.

woah did you see that hummingbird over there? anyway, meth (sunny successor), Saturday, 19 October 2013 04:36 (twelve years ago)

That seems really cheap to me? I think it's a ton more expensive here. I know several women who had to quit because what they were paying in daycare meant that it just wasn't worth it for them to continue working.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

oh "At the top of the scale, parents around Boston can shell out as much as $2,500 a month on one infant’s care – more than a month’s worth of food, sometimes even more than rent or a mortgage payment. Over 12 months, they’ll spend more than the cost of a school year at a state college."

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

DAMMIT WHY IS EVERYTHING IN THIS STUPID STATE SO EXPENSIVE?

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

There were some places in Chicago that I called that charged that much. The cheapest place I found was about $820/month.

carl agatha, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:32 (twelve years ago)

To be fair to Boston, my BU tuition is less than my U of MD would have been by about 20k. This is what happens when you live less than three miles from an actual state, and when your own non-state does not offer your program at their barely-accredited non-state school.

So thanking BU, sorry for expensive :(

quincie, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:36 (twelve years ago)

You're doing a distance learning thing through BU? Neat! I didn't know that.

Airwrecka Bliptrap Blapmantis (ENBB), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:42 (twelve years ago)

Yes! All my classes are online (with weekly simultaneous sessions with my section) and then I do my field internships in DC. I've been really pleased with the program so far, definitely rigorous. I'll come up to visit campus one of these days, and what the hell maybe I should actually go to graduation, unlike with grad degree #1.

quincie, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:49 (twelve years ago)

But anyway back to hair; I am starting to think I should stay long for as long as possible. As long as possible I think means that at some point--but maybe not for a couple of years--I'll have to deal with the going gray transition. Or maybe the ombre look will be a thing again by that time? I'm pretty committed to not dyeing.
