afaict have to reblog other ppl so they see who you are and they're like oh yeah these are cool reblogbackscratching, i guess?
― Untt (La Lechera), Sunday, 6 October 2013 20:29 (twelve years ago)
i mean that's one way of putting it
Hm I do reblog ppl albeit on a separate account that I use for compiling ideas, and it doesn't seem like any of them have checked me out? But that idea seems sound.
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Sunday, 6 October 2013 20:34 (twelve years ago)
yeah if you are not reblogging from liability no one will know who you are
― Untt (La Lechera), Sunday, 6 October 2013 20:37 (twelve years ago)

I just painted my nails with sparkly green polish! Except you can only really see the sparkly, not the green.
― The Reverend, Sunday, 13 October 2013 10:22 (twelve years ago)
Anyone know how to get this effect? Is it just any matte polish with dots of regular top coat?http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lpqMz4TSja8/UOng_hpdwYI/AAAAAAAABuQ/6TFA54SIXEI/s1600/Matte+Green+Polka+Dots+Nail+Art+3.JPG
(the blog itself doesn't say)
― kinder, Saturday, 19 October 2013 17:25 (twelve years ago)
wah sorry for gigantic pic
― kinder, Saturday, 19 October 2013 17:26 (twelve years ago)
i think they used the color on the nail then covered it with a matte finisher and then dotted the original polish on it with a dotting tool? maybe.
― 1 P.3. Eternal (roxymuzak), Saturday, 19 October 2013 18:03 (twelve years ago)
I like it!
― quincie, Saturday, 19 October 2013 19:25 (twelve years ago)
Could also have dotted a gloss topcoat, but basically roxy otm and I like it too! Subtle.
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Sunday, 20 October 2013 00:43 (twelve years ago)
ok, kate78 informed me about the need to do a topcoat and now my nails look way better. I'm such a novice.
― old homophobic boom bap rap traditionalist (The Reverend), Sunday, 20 October 2013 21:52 (twelve years ago)
Topcoat is U&K for sure! Seche Vite quick dry (CVS and other drug stores) is soooooo shiny and dries the whole mani quickly.
― quincie, Sunday, 20 October 2013 23:03 (twelve years ago)
Oh is topcoat a separate thing and not just a second layer of polish?
― old homophobic boom bap rap traditionalist (The Reverend), Monday, 21 October 2013 00:59 (twelve years ago)
It's a clear layer that helps absorb scratches and chips. And can be shiny or matte.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Monday, 21 October 2013 01:20 (twelve years ago)
Do two layers of polish, then topcoat.
― kate78, Monday, 21 October 2013 01:26 (twelve years ago)
^^^a good topcoat will make all the difference, trust me/us!
― quincie, Monday, 21 October 2013 02:05 (twelve years ago)
Ahhh thx

The best tip there, imo, is to use nail polish remover to clean your nails before you start (even if you don't already have polish on them). That gets any oil off your nail and makes the polish adhere better.

That is so freaking adorable! I love love love the circuits :)
― quincie, Sunday, 27 October 2013 01:12 (twelve years ago)
Oh and I have been meaning to ask about your base coat preferences. I have this big old bottle of CND Stickey, but I think I like Orly Bonder better, maybe? Actually I have yet to figure out how to get more than two days without chips.
How in the heck are you doing this stuff with your non-dominant hand, is the other thing I would like to know!
― quincie, Sunday, 27 October 2013 01:14 (twelve years ago)
The circuits would have been a lot straighter if I'd done them w my dominant hand! There's no way around the non-dom side, it's just a pain. I knew my left hand couldn't do the delicacy of the curved spider webs so even though the webs look simpler than the robots, straight lines are easier for me.
My current base coat is a bottle of China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat and it works fine afaict. I started using a Zoya one and some Zoya colors and their quick-dry drops, but it confirmed my theory that 3-free formulas don't work well with non-3-free formulas--the drops caused terrible shrinkage, even worse than Seche Vite.

Question for everyone: If I did sets of acrylic nails one could buy online, would you prefer oval or square tips? Survey!
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 15 November 2013 12:21 (twelve years ago)
Depends on how long they are I think. I usually ask for the vaunted "squoval" shape but I keep my nails super short.
― carl agatha, Friday, 15 November 2013 14:28 (twelve years ago)
oval i guess, but i see mostly squares on students
― sweat pea (La Lechera), Friday, 15 November 2013 14:49 (twelve years ago)
(note: this is not a product i would buy, so my preference doesn't really matter -- the people who i know who have acrylic nails mostly have square)
― sweat pea (La Lechera), Friday, 15 November 2013 14:50 (twelve years ago)
oval oval oval; I dislike square unless they are quite short (like short natural nails)
― quincie, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)
oh but LL has a good point in that square seem to be more popular, so maybe square!
― quincie, Friday, 15 November 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)
I think square is more resilient for longer nails but maybe I am making that up.
― carl agatha, Friday, 15 November 2013 17:07 (twelve years ago)
Yes, but these wouldn't be natural so resilience/danger of splitting doesn't apply. :)
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 15 November 2013 17:11 (twelve years ago)
I'm looking at both "medium" (which to me are long nails) and "active length" which are only slightly longer than my natural ones, both in oval shapes. I think the preference for v square tips or not is a class-related issue that I'm not sure I can unpack adequately, but my overall impression is that in the modern nail art world, oval is currently winning unless they're, as you say, quite short.
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 15 November 2013 18:05 (twelve years ago)
Eeeeeeeee!!! I just ordered so many blanks plus additional shapes of metal studs and charms and some glittering skulls and I am so excited!
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Friday, 15 November 2013 19:06 (twelve years ago)
arent they all the same shape and you file them the way you want? i wouldnt touch square tips with a 10 foot pole
― homosexual II, Saturday, 16 November 2013 03:25 (twelve years ago)
No, you can order square or oval! I have so many blanks coming, I am quite excited. Look for online sales soon!!!!!!!
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Saturday, 16 November 2013 03:31 (twelve years ago)
Oh I already said that. Well, I'm still excited, many hours later.
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Saturday, 16 November 2013 03:32 (twelve years ago)
I can't wait to see what you come up with!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Saturday, 16 November 2013 03:39 (twelve years ago)
WELL, it's possible I will take custom orders in addition to making some basic styles in larger quantities! So let's see how this goes.

I'm wicked excited, lady. I can't afford any but I will spread the word to friends!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 04:16 (twelve years ago)
:) :) :) :) people should let me know what they WANT, too! I'm just guessing and trying to make some representative items rn but I could use guidance.
― Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 14:16 (twelve years ago)
oooooooh I can use my upcoming b'day as an excuse to wear fun nails! Lemme cook up an concept!
― quincie, Wednesday, 27 November 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)
The friends I have in mind who did purchase nails either are into heavy-metal, or really girly. So I would suggest maybe something studded, black, etc.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 20:05 (twelve years ago)
And maybe also throw up a picture of blank nails and offer custom designs for an extra five dollars? As in, tell people to email you a picture or description of what they're looking for
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 20:07 (twelve years ago)
Thanks! I'm doing a baby blue leopard + glitter set right now for the girly, will throw in something pink after that. I have some basic metal gems on hand but a better set coming in the mail sometime in December (ugh shipping from China), but I'll do some matte black with metallic details soon!
The item description does mention custom work but you're right that I should create a new item for it with a good work-in-progress photo. Good idea!
