I just painted my nails with sparkly green polish! Except you can only really see the sparkly, not the green.

Anyone know how to get this effect? Is it just any matte polish with dots of regular top coat?

i think they used the color on the nail then covered it with a matte finisher and then dotted the original polish on it with a dotting tool? maybe.

Could also have dotted a gloss topcoat, but basically roxy otm and I like it too! Subtle.

Topcoat is U&K for sure! Seche Vite quick dry (CVS and other drug stores) is soooooo shiny and dries the whole mani quickly.

Oh is topcoat a separate thing and not just a second layer of polish?

It's a clear layer that helps absorb scratches and chips. And can be shiny or matte.

Do two layers of polish, then topcoat.

The best tip there, imo, is to use nail polish remover to clean your nails before you start (even if you don't already have polish on them). That gets any oil off your nail and makes the polish adhere better.

Oh and I have been meaning to ask about your base coat preferences. I have this big old bottle of CND Stickey, but I think I like Orly Bonder better, maybe? Actually I have yet to figure out how to get more than two days without chips.

How in the heck are you doing this stuff with your non-dominant hand, is the other thing I would like to know!

The circuits would have been a lot straighter if I'd done them w my dominant hand! There's no way around the non-dom side, it's just a pain. I knew my left hand couldn't do the delicacy of the curved spider webs so even though the webs look simpler than the robots, straight lines are easier for me.

My current base coat is a bottle of China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat and it works fine afaict. I started using a Zoya one and some Zoya colors and their quick-dry drops, but it confirmed my theory that 3-free formulas don't work well with non-3-free formulas--the drops caused terrible shrinkage, even worse than Seche Vite.

I had to up my glam factor so I got talons. i LOVE THEM. OMG I FEEL LIKE $1,000,000

Question for everyone: If I did sets of acrylic nails one could buy online, would you prefer oval or square tips? Survey!

Depends on how long they are I think. I usually ask for the vaunted "squoval" shape but I keep my nails super short.

I'm looking at both "medium" (which to me are long nails) and "active length" which are only slightly longer than my natural ones, both in oval shapes. I think the preference for v square tips or not is a class-related issue that I'm not sure I can unpack adequately, but my overall impression is that in the modern nail art world, oval is currently winning unless they're, as you say, quite short.

The friends I have in mind who did purchase nails either are into heavy-metal, or really girly. So I would suggest maybe something studded, black, etc.

And maybe also throw up a picture of blank nails and offer custom designs for an extra five dollars? As in, tell people to email you a picture or description of what they're looking for

Thanks! I'm doing a baby blue leopard + glitter set right now for the girly, will throw in something pink after that. I have some basic metal gems on hand but a better set coming in the mail sometime in December (ugh shipping from China), but I'll do some matte black with metallic details soon!
