received wisdom i picked up (from god knows where) is: black suit = mafia hitman. i'm not a master at color, but i'd imagine it's hard to coordinate well with black ... say, the classic menswear combo of black suit + lime green shirt with silver grey tie.

his LIPS !!! (darraghmac), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:19 (twelve years ago)

i never wear black clothes, because i prefer navy and have lots of navy stuff, since it doesn't go with black i don't buy many black items. dunno if everyone has this choice.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:20 (twelve years ago)

navy shirts can go with black trousers very nicely

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:21 (twelve years ago)

i saw a wedding party in boston and all the guys were wearing black tuxedos at like 2pm. they looked ridiculous.

caek, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:21 (twelve years ago)

it's hard not to co-ordinate well with black

pretty easy if you don't have a black belt or shoes!

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:23 (twelve years ago)

what type of disgusting savaged doesn't own black shoes and a black belt

WHAT DOES SAMANTHA FOX SAY (DJP), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:23 (twelve years ago)

none. none more black

乒乓, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:23 (twelve years ago)

i only own black shoes and a black belt because i worked in a restuarant

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:24 (twelve years ago)

caek otm, obv should have been in morning suits before 5pm

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:24 (twelve years ago)

navy collared shirts tracer and black trousers tracer? idgi. dark, non-pattered shirts are what you wear if you work in a mobile phone shop or are german afaict. french blue is fine, but none more darker than that.

caek, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:25 (twelve years ago)

black t-shirt or black henley shirt with blue jeans maybe. otherwise no black except shoes and belts. it's a vulgar colour.

caek, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:26 (twelve years ago)

caek why do you hate goths

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:28 (twelve years ago)

black jeans, actually, caek

i don't own black trousers i don't think

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:30 (twelve years ago)

i.e. navy collared shirt, black jeans. that's how i roll up on you.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:31 (twelve years ago)

here's a menswear question. i am going for a job interview today. i will be interviewed by MY CURRENT BOSS and HIS BOSS. in a little office on the same floor i work on now. several co-workers also have interviews for the same job. how do i dress to impress without seeming like a tit, given that my normal work steez is jeans and t-shirts?

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)

sorry, not today, tomorrow.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:35 (twelve years ago)

but in your reply you can speak in the PRESENT TENSE to give everything the URGENCY and BREATHLESSNESS today's modern internet typing demands

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:36 (twelve years ago)

tuxedo t-shirt, pretty obviously. weird that you have to ask.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:38 (twelve years ago)

tucked into jeans, white sneakers. got it.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:39 (twelve years ago)

do you have the kind of relationship where you could ask your boss? maybe frame it as how does he think his boss will expect you to dress?

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

i have asked. the consensus seems to be yes, dress up. even if it seems silly. if it's marginal between me and somebody else and i dressed up and they didn't... GUH

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:43 (twelve years ago)

black jeans and a black pea coat are my only black items, and i want to replace the black pea coat with a navy one.

xpost blazer and shirt or shirt and tie with a jumper over it or something, and jeans and shoes, that was my approach in possibly the same office you're talking about tracer!

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:44 (twelve years ago)

i don't know if i can go "full tie". i just don't. i haven't worn a tie in about a year and a half.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:45 (twelve years ago)

i would love to be that kind of person though. oh hey yeah, no, i'm just switching up my style, it's a COMPLETE COINCIDENCE that i have a job interview today. ties from here on out.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)

about half my tshirts are black but I appreciate that flaxen haired and wan europeans don't look good in black, I agree

乒乓, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)

ties are so awesome tho

乒乓, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:47 (twelve years ago)

catching up on thred: kind of mad i am sitting here in a sold dark coloured shirt and being called out on it by a scientist

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

xpost. otm. i wish i had to wear one more. if i wear one in my office people ask for a reason why.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

xp: that's okay, he's a scientist of RONG

WHAT DOES SAMANTHA FOX SAY (DJP), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

Brown shoes and brown belt way more versatile.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:05 (twelve years ago)

black doesn't go with everything, this is pure crazy talk

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:05 (twelve years ago)

I mean unless you are often required to dress formally.

Wantaway striker (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:05 (twelve years ago)

Elmo otm.

so what do your boss and his boss wear to work? i don't think you want to out-dress them. without more info i'd say maybe nicer khakis or wool trousers with a sportcoat and a shirt with a quiet pattern?

but if your boss's boss wears a suit, then wear a suit.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:08 (twelve years ago)

they don't wear suits or ties. they wear nice shirts and either jeans or trousers. so i'll match up i think. the nut of my conundrum ultimately is whether to bust out nice shoes. i think i probably will.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:10 (twelve years ago)

yes do it

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:12 (twelve years ago)

wear a sportcoat if you think it won't be weird

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:12 (twelve years ago)

i don't have a sportcoat :/

possibly it is time for a little shoe polishin'!

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)

don't forget to wear yr sleeve garters

乒乓, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)

i'm not an animal

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 16:14 (twelve years ago)

ok not everything goes with black but as a counter to i'd imagine it's hard to coordinate well with black say
