I'm sorry for poking my head into this thread, but how is the quality of those Uniqlo socks? Thank you in advance.

they seem ok. I've been wearing them a bunch and putting them through the wash and aside from maybe some slight fading they're hanging in there.

you guys are bumming me out. I need to see some examples of badly applied colorful patterned socks. I'm worried now.

i have a pair of:

- bright blue socks
- bright yellow socks
- bright pink socks
- bright red socks
- bright turquoise socks (these are the hardest to make work)

and a bunch of socks that might as well be black.

Thank you! I am enjoying reading it as I know nothing about men's clothing but am sometimes called upon my men in my life to render opinions on their clothing choices so I am finding this very helpful. I don't have anything to add beyond "I like pocket squares."

Thanks for the sock info, chinavision. At that price, I think it would be worth getting a few pairs (for me and my man-sized feet - thank you wild sock trend!).

ok so all the socks in that article are obviously super ugly

so a rule is to not wear ugly socks

i think you need to be careful with lighter coloured socks, they can look awful. esp with a dark shoe, like anything close to white. though i do love a yellow sock/brown brogue combo.

i don't get the thing about socks and suit trousers either, i think it looks great to have a red or wine sock with navy suit.

the uniqlo socks are amazing shades imo, like their green, yellow, rust, burgundy are all incredibly deep rich colours.

I only wear black socks. As soon as I get something unique, then I will almost certainly lose one of the pair.

i sometimes wear plain white socks with desert boots and blue jeans. it can work.

how thick are those uniqlo socks? i prefer a thinner sock 98% of the time.

thin but not super thin I guess. maybe the thickness will change with the seasons?

i like fancy, patterned socks. i always have, probably because i am sort of magpie-ish abt clothes generally idk. for the last year i've been buying all my socks from richer, poorer they don't have the best patterns but they're reasonably priced and made in the u.s. out of quality materials &c &c i think they look pretty smart with most of the trousers i wear

i have some plain white socks but they are made of some nasa-derived fabrics and i only wear them when im 'being active'

medium thin to thin I guess?

bought a ton about 3 years ago and maybe half have developed small holes in toe/heel. theyre really cheap so getting 3 years out of them seems great but otoh feels really wasteful just cycle into/out of 12 pairs a year or whatever

theyre basically the only socks i wear, i have only two pair of "dress socks," in a boring grey, this summer i went sockless at all the weddings i went to and felt great

i noticed this summer that sockless business/formal was a thing. maybe i just didn't notice it before. it struck me as a disgusting savage manoeuvre tbh.

what shoes were you wearing to these weddings? xp

i've only ever done sockless with topsiders

they started smelling awful after awhile. no objections to sockless w/ a more formal shoe but i'd only do it w/ sock liners

i wore super low profile socks to a wedding this summer because i wore white linen pants and dress shoes. it looked fine but my feet still got all scratched up from friction where the socks didn't cover them.

Ugh, sockless. My feet sweat way too much for that. Even when it's not hot.

i just meant "sockless" in the sense that you couldnt see my absurd little ballet-shoe socks, which protected my feet from blisters, my shoes from sweat, and my personal brand from the embarrassment of being the guy with ankle socks

yeah thats what i used--still got irritation on my ankles from the tops of the shoes

but would use again, the alternatives are too shitty to consider

i had a small blister when i did the comeys but nothing a bandaid didnt protect

do you guys wear socks with boat shoes too

wash your feet everyday. put cornstarch or gold bond in your shoes. you can wipe em out afterwards. if they get damp you can stuff em with newspaper.
