The whole site is mega-creepy, like for people who want to "win" at menswear. The shops are creepy too. I think some of the clothes are cool and their bespoke options look good but I've never bought anything due to the store being so dependent on you wanting some dude to talk at you for the duration of your purchase.

i dunno i've heard folks rep for suit supply but it just feels like downmarket trendfucking trying to look neapolitan

it's a weird approach, for sure

but if the jacket fits, wear it

i had to kind of write off suitsupply after checking the about us on their site:

Suitsupply is a market defining brand showing strong international growth.

We are pioneers at everything we do, and we work hard to keep it that way. Our pioneering spirit generates a contagious energy, which is what enables us to keep putting new ideas into practice.

Our strength lies in our formula: straight, to the point and still personal. Fast and effective. Combining craftsmanship with flair.

There are few things that distract us. This approach enables us to create an environment in which our customers feel that we only have eyes for them. We are there for people who want to be seen.

elmo, is that a denim suit? it looks like a denim suit

(what was the purpose of that stupid costume) (DJP), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:50 (twelve years ago)

also their pants seem to have a default 7" leg opening which would look preposterous on me and leads me to believe their default sizing is some super-slim nonsense that i could never fit into.

I went to Famous Footwear this weekend and discovered they were doing a buy one, get one half off sale and bought two pairs of the same shoe for absolutely no reason and then had to buy clothes to match them because I have a problem:

DAN THAT IS A DENIM FUCKING SUIT

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:56 (twelve years ago)

jesus that's horrifying and I want one

(what was the purpose of that stupid costume) (DJP), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:58 (twelve years ago)

if the occasion were right i would wear a denim suit tbh

乒乓, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:59 (twelve years ago)

(seriously what is happening to me, I thought your clothing tastes were supposed to become more sensible as you got older, not less)

(what was the purpose of that stupid costume) (DJP), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 13:59 (twelve years ago)

well i mean i wear out the crotches of my 501s with clockwork regularity, i can only imagine that the crotch of a light drapey jean trouser fabric would essentially disintegrate on contact

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:04 (twelve years ago)

elmo, what do you do with your otherwise-good jeans after the crotch/thigh area is history? I have all these pairs piling up.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:30 (twelve years ago)

if i ever move down south im definitely getting a denim suit

乒乓, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:30 (twelve years ago)

make a suit out of em xp

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:31 (twelve years ago)

what do you do with your otherwise-good jeans after the crotch/thigh area is history

make a rag rug out of em? idk, i've never figured it out

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:34 (twelve years ago)

turn them into a denim kilt

(what was the purpose of that stupid costume) (DJP), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:36 (twelve years ago)

if you're gonna do a denim suit just go all out hayseed and make coordinating tailored overalls & a jacket w/ a pocket for shotgun shells

just stop pretending you're god's gift to pitti uomo

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:38 (twelve years ago)

supposedly u can mend yr jeans if you catch the rip early enough, maybe u do this idk ive never been so enterprising, seems like the fabric gets so thin and worn it wouldnt make a difference idk

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:39 (twelve years ago)

Oh I have patched and patched, don't think I didn't. The only ones that lasted were when I used suede instead of fabric.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 14:47 (twelve years ago)

fuck now i want tailored overalls, what did i do to myself

your authentic guitar playing self (elmo argonaut), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 15:00 (twelve years ago)

huh interesting xp

lag∞n, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 15:01 (twelve years ago)

suit supply is kind of like a pile-em-high sell-em-cheap-but-not-terribly-cheap version of the menswear section of somewhere like reiss. the stuff is way more on trend than department store/moss bros type stuff, e.g. the lapels are not 3/4" wide there like it's still season 2 of mad men/a wedding i went to in sheffield in 2008. the range is actually tiny. like 4 basic cuts, 10 fabrics/colours, extremely limited trouser options. the main thing is free alterations (i think? turns out i could basically be the dummy for their 38R jackets, so i didn't need them), and the staff i spoke to definitely knew what they were doing more than elsewhere.

as long as you don't actually look like one of their models/choose one of the nuttier colours i think you're going to come out looking presentable in a business environment.

obviously the styling on the website makes them look like sociopaths though.

caek, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 20:38 (twelve years ago)

yeah i mean i get that the marketing is abhorrent but especially with something like suits where even somebody w/ a trained eye might not be able to tell a brooks brothers from a mens wearhouse if both have been tailored or just happen to fit the wearer - if you think it looks good on you and the price is right, go with god imo

乒乓, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 21:06 (twelve years ago)

ok, i need some menswear help. i have 1,000 spectrum bux to spend and i need a new wardrobe. is this enough for some reasonably decent clothes? what are some good places to get an updated look? i haven't bought new clothes in about two years so i'm beyond out of the loop. not looking for fashion forward or anything, but don't want old navy crap either. something contemporary that fits smaller dudes that doesn't cost $190 (or "£"120) per piece

Spectrum, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 21:19 (twelve years ago)

what kind of clothes do you like?

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 21:49 (twelve years ago)

hmmm... i should probably figure that one out first. i want a new look but i have zero idea what to go for.

Spectrum, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 22:25 (twelve years ago)

that is awful

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 22:36 (twelve years ago)

suitsupply always looks simultaneously smug and cheap to me, like the guy you know who dropped out of your college but thinks he is hot shit now because he has a sales job and leases a BMW SUV

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 27 August 2013 22:37 (twelve years ago)

lol schlump

do you need clothes for work? for weekends and after work? for special occasions?

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 27 August 2013 23:44 (twelve years ago)

i feel like i sound like a sega genesis fan here but...

a single breasted charcoal suit supply suit is excellent value

the single breasted havana sports jackets are fine in pretty much every colour except pink and white (wtf?), and the one i just bought is pretty much the best non-uk-second-hand sports jacket i've ever bought

they definitely have a problem with jacket length, and they need to stop hiring models who look like they have a chromosome problem

caek, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 02:53 (twelve years ago)

Does anyone own a J. Crew suit? Are any of them doable for relatively conservative professional settings? Supposedly on material and construction for the price they get very high marks.

#fomo that's the motto (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 28 August 2013 02:57 (twelve years ago)

i have a jcrew suit, its pretty conservative

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 02:58 (twelve years ago)

especially if you get the regular not skinny pants

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 03:00 (twelve years ago)

overall p good suit experience would recomend

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 03:01 (twelve years ago)

very conserve

乒乓, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 03:22 (twelve years ago)

so style

乒乓, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 03:22 (twelve years ago)

wow

lag∞n, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 03:27 (twelve years ago)

was at a wedding the other weekend and it felt like two out of three guys i saw were wearing j crew ludlow suits. they looked good tho, fabric was decent, cuts were conservative but not unhip

max, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 10:16 (twelve years ago)

if i had to get a suit id probably get one of those, $600 is a great price, the only hesitation being how many yung urban creative professionals apparently have one as their only suit

max, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 10:17 (twelve years ago)

couldnt u guys just fancy a straight suit up with like yknow ties/shirts/socks/squares etc instead of frowning on stuff that doesnt come with some gimmicky twist

r|t|c, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 10:27 (twelve years ago)

that statement goes for most things itt tbrr

r|t|c, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 10:28 (twelve years ago)

whos demanding gimmicks!

max, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 10:28 (twelve years ago)

idk man yall are kinda drawling 'conservative' here like its a suboptimal thing

r|t|c, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 10:30 (twelve years ago)

ur projecting

max, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 10:35 (twelve years ago)

I got a j crew suit. fabric is nice, style is nice. if anything I would have preferred a slightly more conservative cut but it's not too too hip.
I think the guy who helped me was unhelpful though. I suspected it wasn't the right fit but was talked into getting it and, turns out, it wasn't the right fit.
for this reason I'd like to try someplace else when I next get a suit, as mentioned above.

chinavision!, Wednesday, 28 August 2013 13:10 (twelve years ago)

think I'm swearing off buying a new suit for awhile though.
