i looked up the design sponge post for that house and there was a photo captioned like "i really think plants are important, they really give life to a space" and it's was just the tiniest little spider plant in a little macramé hanger in the corner of a room

yesterday my bf & i were driving back from western ma. and stopped at a thrift store in worcester where i found a book called LIFESPACE by spiros zakas and boy is it great, lots of super modern home decor concepts such as overstuffed quilted wall coverings and clear plastic modular furniture.

do you have a scanner?

giant block letters just make me think of pottery barn and Z gallery and crazy chintzy furniture places that think everyone needs to put weird shit on their walls

lacrosse sticks! garden rakes! a bicycle wheel!

i dunno, i think if you're using them to show how much you're "into" typography and design then maybe choose something interesting? i can't tell sometimes if the letters are supposed to stand for something or if they just signify a sort of forced eclecticism

like i just feel like it's the equivalent of picture frames & wall decals that say stuff like FAMILY and LAUGHTER but for more refined tastes

true. a global THEY ARE ALL TERRIBLE is probably a bit too harsh. there are probably cool ways of using them

i wonder about this, like would you quickly become ocd about needing to make a tableau out of your food to instagram before eating it - how would you be able eat if the color of the table or the plates or the look of the food itself didn't lend itself to this

my bf & i house sat for a nice lesbian couple once and it was similarly everywhere, i believe the bed linens were printed in thematic words?

also a big hand-painted thing that was like IN THIS HOUSE WE GIVE HUGS WE SAY I'M SORRY WE LAUGH LOUDLY AND GIVE ESKIMO KISSES AND DRINK MILK OR WHATEVER

that house must have had a lot of regrettable tattoos

also lots of framed art of mermaids with big boobs

all over the house

I dislike words in decoration almost in the same way I dislike them in art -- it forces this very canned kind of meaning onto something that should be more aesthetic and impressionistic. Also artists usually use words in a corny way.

And in the bedroom I stayed in, my favorite thing. We got tons of mileage out of this one. (sorry if huge?)

I really, really hate it. Every department store atm has 'homeware' sections with giant LOVE or HOME signs and I can't stand it

i go to look at them to see if the words are evolving
"delish" is a perfect example
i wouldn't touch one of these things much less put it in my home, but it's interesting to watch the evolution of the words manufacturers choose to blast all over people's homes

"Kitchen (Where Food Is Prepared)"
