I def feel better about my hair after reading that article! I don't think I could handle a weave, I get migraines from any high/tight ponytail, I would probably die during the process. Eep. Thanks for the kind words, ladies! I'd like to thank my former employer for laying me off and giving me the chance to just grow my hair like weeds. Haven't had a trim since March!

On that note I am in a wedding sept 14 and have a hair appointment aug 22. Do I go and have it cut and coloured a few shades up to my preferred bright colour, or do I keep / touch up this colour and get a cheap trim somewhere? My hairstylist will prob charge me a good $150+ to process my hair after so long away & boxed dye.. But I don't really have the $150. Not to spare. I love my lady but unemployment and fancy hair jobs do not go hand in hand, especially since I have to buy a bridesmaid dress, bachelorette, etc.

I guess I made up my mind there!

last time i was at the stylist there was another stylist who was going to do some clip in jobbies and they looked rill tempting

my main concerns are:

• can i reasonably expect to put them in/take them out by myself?
• will they rip my hair out?
• is there a huge difference in cheaper/more expensive ones? they're all made of the same thing, right? anything on labels i should be looking out for?

My beloved stylist refuses (well, she would probably do it if I insisted but I tend to take her advice in all hair-related things) to cut my hair short until after I have this baby because she says that my face might change shape or who knows what else and I might prefer to have long hair to hide behind, which fine. FINE. But I cannot wait to cut all my hair off and stop coloring it (I'm one of those reckless women who continue to color her hair while pregnant!!! I did switch to semi-permanent, though, per Beloved Stylist's suggestion)! I want to see how gray it is, and I'm tired of my eye brows being so much lighter than my hair. And while I do indulge in the occasional brow tint, I don't have the money or interest in keeping it up regularly and now I have all these eyebrow hairs that are like half light blond and half brown.

There's no point to any of that, really.

Roxy what did you decide to do about hair extensions?

I don't know any white women irl who regularly use hair extensions, but I know some WoC who do it so well that you can't tell it's not their hair, like just for volume under other areas etc, and easily applicable/removable at home. This would depend on your hair color, texture, and thickness in the specific area you're trying to enhance but it seems plausible to me.

Also I know someone who wears false eyelashes all the time, applied with hair glue so they STAY, and I am SO INTRIGUED. Want big sweeping falsies to bat.

Man, I would do extensions just to see what I look like with long hair since i haven't had it since HS and also so that I'd have the freedom to put it up.

I got a coupon for some huge amount off lash extensions and I am so tempted, but I have to use it before the end of August and the lashes really don't last that long and I've been working from home 4/5 days every week and seeing no other humans besides Jeff and the old folks in my water aerobics class so I mean, what is the point really. (I am not a "I do these expensive/time consuming beauty rituals for myself!" kind of person (if it weren't for societal expectations I'd be the hairiest most unkempt person alive) so that is not a draw here.)

i got some clip in hair extensions and they are amazing and changing my life. my best friend for years didn't realize they weren't my real hair tbh! i told her after a couple days and she was all WTF! they are human hair and exactly my shade (which was amazingly lucky cause i ordered through the net w/ guesswork), and super long. withstand headbanging.

So you just clip them in and take them out yourself when you are in the mood for more hair? That seems pretty cool.

xp yep. they're straight, and my hair is curly, so i totally style my hair and then clip them in and leave them in til I take a shower again - sometimes I put my hair in a big braid and leave them in overnight tbh.

roxy that is good news!! where did you get them? how did you place/clip them? would it be weird to ask for pics? i am so horrifically oversensitive about my hair that i totally understand if you'd rather not (i wouldn't want to) but i am reeeeeeally curious what they look like.

i'll take a pic next time i wear them! i ordered them through amazon, they're Donna Bella brand human hair. they only come in a few shades and I totally lucked out that one exactly matches my hair, but they are dye-able if you aren't as lucky. I straighten out my hair and then made parts horizontally across the back of my head and clip the really wide pieces in, attaching them to the bottom of the part, if that makes sense. I do that all the way up my head and then clip in the little ones at the front under my hair sorta just wherever they look good. it adds like, 400% hair to my head. i feel like bill steer.

Roxy, I can't believe I missed this thread for so long! I bought some clip in extensions about a year ago. I love them too but I've only worn them once because they're super long. Been meaning to cut them to a more believable length and just use them for fullness more than length. Don't think I could be bothered with them on a daily basis but I like them a lot

I need to get some extensions to add volume so that I can have the ultimate Delta Burke hair.

It's asymmetrical, with the left side just a little longer than mid-ear and the right side just shy of chin length, still layered and with bangs, although not quite as short or blunt as I've been wearing them recently. It's pretty hip, actually.
