wow!! love the subway nails

The bridge came out really nice.

I love the subway ones!! I like the bridge too but it didn't come out quite as well as my sketch, because nails are irregular and don't line up exactly. It needs some work on perspective & alignment, but it's most of the way there, I agree (and am secretly still proud of it).

Thanks, elmo! That means a lot coming from a fellow craftsperson! Nails and nail art are prob due for some scholarly notice like hair has been in the past, I should seek that out.

I need to make more money from this tho--pls feel free to send clients my way, everyone!

Maybe you could paint designs on press-on nails and sell them on Etsy.

elmo also suggested that, I should see how to even obtain the blank nail sets maybe. I'd rather work face-to-face but the nail set option does seem v plausible.

I don't have experience as an etsy seller, but as online retail guy i have to say it sounds like it might be a good way to extend your exposure. shipping by first class parcel service is pretty dependable and cheap. you can sell sets that you have pre-made AND / OR you can make custom sets to order. i'm sure you'd be able to find blank nail sets at your local beauty supply!

obviously sticking on some acrylic nails isn't the same experience as a manicure, so you'd have to price accordingly. on the plus side, tho -- you'd get a chance to practice and try out new designs without needing a human subject AND you can build inventory at the same time. there might even be an opportunity to have them to upsell your clients ~during~ in-person sessions. if nothing else, it might help you support your habit.

I've always thought those acrylic beauty store nails were SO BAD, that only children and the supremely aspirational used them. Are they for real?? I should youtube investigate application etc to see how seriously they are taken.

So annoyed there are 47 reblogs of the same mediocre pink tribal nails but I can't even get my #nailart tagged pics to come up in a tumblr search. Possibly I don't understand how tags work??!?#

I just painted my nails with sparkly green polish! Except you can only really see the sparkly, not the green.

Anyone know how to get this effect? Is it just any matte polish with dots of regular top coat?

i think they used the color on the nail then covered it with a matte finisher and then dotted the original polish on it with a dotting tool? maybe.

Could also have dotted a gloss topcoat, but basically roxy otm and I like it too! Subtle.

ok, kate78 informed me about the need to do a topcoat and now my nails look way better. I'm such a novice.

Topcoat is U&K for sure! Seche Vite quick dry (CVS and other drug stores) is soooooo shiny and dries the whole mani quickly.

Oh is topcoat a separate thing and not just a second layer of polish?

It's a clear layer that helps absorb scratches and chips. And can be shiny or matte.

Do two layers of polish, then topcoat.

^^^a good topcoat will make all the difference, trust me/us!

The best tip there, imo, is to use nail polish remover to clean your nails before you start (even if you don't already have polish on them). That gets any oil off your nail and makes the polish adhere better.
