r|t|c, Monday, 22 July 2013 11:07 (twelve years ago)

ok i just called the head Tretorn office in Sweden. no shops in France or England. what happened to these guys?? Tretorns used to do big fucking business when i was growing up. random girls in Knoxville would be rocking Tretorns.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 22 July 2013 11:08 (twelve years ago)

(xp well not new actually tbh, i got them off ebay expecting they'd be broken in but appara not cos it's only my blood on them now)

r|t|c, Monday, 22 July 2013 11:10 (twelve years ago)

uniqlo sell a lot of those short socks in some decent colours. i already had some when i decided it was too hot to wear them, genuinely still hurts each time i put the converse on now.

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Monday, 22 July 2013 11:17 (twelve years ago)

yeah i had to gingerly tiptoe into sainsburys to buy a pair, and some plasters

not really a fan of those short socks at all though

r|t|c, Monday, 22 July 2013 11:19 (twelve years ago)

every pair of doc martens i ever tried, socks or not, mangled some tiny bone in my heel so thorougly that i'd limp for days afterwards. in fact i attribute my feet's incompatibility with docs as the primary driver behind me not getting into the smiths, throwing muses or the cure and getting into metal instead

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 22 July 2013 11:22 (twelve years ago)

i find normal socks look a bit dumb with shorts but i don't wear shorts that often.

xpost i once had a pair of adidas i got off ebay and there was no discernible pain at first, but after walking ten minutes with them they seemed to pinch some specific nerve just around the bridge of my foot, causing agony. it was as if you were having some medical emergency or something.

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Monday, 22 July 2013 11:24 (twelve years ago)

idk about bone mangling but docs have done a number on me too in the past. it's perfectly natural for a wide variety of quality shoes, just my repeated idiocy in not prepping every time is the most irritating thing

r|t|c, Monday, 22 July 2013 11:27 (twelve years ago)

i would imagine the heel-wearing ladies of ilx are rmde-ing hard at us right now

r|t|c, Monday, 22 July 2013 11:28 (twelve years ago)

I have tretorns but I got them in the states. Can you not get em in the UK then?
I love my DMs but they destroy my ankles. I know I need to break them in (they're abt 15 years old lol) but how can I when the PAIN

kinder, Monday, 22 July 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)

Heels, sandals, flats, boots...shoes hurt. Leather shoes need breaking in, by which time unless they're partic rugged, they're halfway to worn out and don't look as nice anymore. In summation, walking is for suckers.

Tottenham Heelspur (in orbit), Monday, 22 July 2013 16:28 (twelve years ago)

Can you not get em in the UK then?

Apparently not! So weird. Plain canvas shoes w/flat soles seems right up Britain's alley - in fact, as a colleague told me today, the classic Tretorn T56s are basically a more classic version of the Dunlop Green Flash, which is ubiquitous here

Here are the ones I want:

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 22 July 2013 16:38 (twelve years ago)

The Swedish lady from Tretorn told me on the phone that I can order them direct, and what size I should try. I have never ordered shoes through the post before.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 22 July 2013 16:38 (twelve years ago)

I had these super-soft leather ones. Replaced them with random ones ordered online and they were kind of sleeping-bag material :(

got these for 70 this week, the grenson sale is amazing if you are in the uk (not sure how much shipping is) they'd normally be 180ish.

surm, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 14:18 (twelve years ago)

hurting those are some nice shoes dog

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 30 July 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)

ty

yeah I am pretty into shoes with soles/heels that are a different shade from the rest of the shoe. Not those lunar crepe things, just like tan with brown or tan with black.

HOOS next aka won't get steened again (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 30 July 2013 14:29 (twelve years ago)

yeah the heel is super important

surm, Tuesday, 30 July 2013 15:00 (twelve years ago)

i'm wearing clicky heels today, i like them. the shoes are black but the laces and stitching are midnight blue which is also a neat contrast

i'm very (perhaps overly) wary of two tone shoe/heel combos, playful or classic-with-a-twist or whatever doesnt seem to work for me at all

Had to check this a few times before I realised, haha, poor guy. Pretty nice shoes.

Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Friday, 2 August 2013 07:59 (twelve years ago)

Just got a pair of these, mostly because of the big reduction (£50 from £125 iirc):

Please review your choices carefully. (seandalai), Friday, 2 August 2013 18:25 (twelve years ago)

The Vintage Shoe Company shoes I bought just feel incredibly well-constructed -- good leather, tight stitching, every sold but still comfortable. And apparently made in the USA too so I guess I should feel proud of that or something.

Not the most exciting shoe purchase but yesterday was the first time I'd ever purchased the exact same shoe to replace a worn out pair. RIP two year old Sambas:

http://i.imgur.com/ZnsKyX9.jpg

Also, since they were on sale and I only ever wear black shoes I bought a pair of these ridiculous Sauconys at the same time to liven things up a bit:

rocking these 2day - i love that they are really like highlighter bright; they're p good shoes, i had already had a pair in yellow that i've destroyed mostly by playing tennis a lot in them so i really cant wear them casually anymore

johnny crunch, Friday, 23 August 2013 15:20 (twelve years ago)

so I went to the Bass outlet with like, no money, thinking well I'll just look and clock what they have for when I'm cashed up, and ended up leaving with

1 pair leopard print espadrille-style flats - $20
1 pair purple suede loafer flats - $20

booya!

okay I know between these and my purple suede boots and bedazzled sandals I'm veering int 70's Elvis/Liberace level crazy shoe closet (if only the gold leather had been in my size)...but they're p freaking rad and colorful shoes make me happy

I just recently noticed my appalling shoe conservatism. Inspiring!

ljubljana, Thursday, 29 August 2013 12:06 (twelve years ago)

I get more conservative from the top down: fun shirts, bright solid-colour trousers, brown shoes.

I love the Bass outlet.

tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 14:56 (twelve years ago)

shoe ppl: please help me find the following to replace my everyday black flats that i wear basically all the time to work

black flat, very minor heel ok (like 1 in)
pointy toe preferred (do not like very rounded toes, pointies are just as comfortable and i feel are more flattering, on me at least)
soft flexible sole
no toe cleavage/somewhat high cut (but not like a loafer)
ok for standing on for 6 hours
embellishment ok within reason
no buckles/clasps -- must be slip on

i have no idea how to search for all of these things at once. i'm shopping impaired and very impatient. i've been needing to replace the beat up old ones i have for over a year!

no fomo (La Lechera), Friday, 13 September 2013 14:41 (twelve years ago)

you're probably going to have to look at flats and/or dress flats and then just find what you want by browsing...

but modcloth has a pretty cute array of flats, and a lot of diff pointy toe styles, you might start there and see if there's anything you like
