^^^^ moi aussi
Hair report: hairs look much better! Not a surprise after a "care" regimen that went soak in salty ocean water/soaked in chlorinated pool water/don't bother to rinse/repeat.
Softer, for sure. And the clipping and pineapple bunning made for good waves when I undid them this a.m. Now if only someone other than my husband "looks nice, like it always does!" were around to appreciate my kitchen cupborad efforts.

what is a pineapple bun?

haha. YUM.
i imagine braided hair worked into a bun would look like a pineapple?
― educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Friday, 19 July 2013 19:58 (twelve years ago)
I know this from when q told me when I asked about how to deal with wet hair while sleeping!
It's when you pile all of your hair on top of your head and stick it in a loose bun with a hairband, and then put on a sleep cap or t-shirt or whatever. It's a thing you can do to wavy/curly hair to keep it from frizzing out overnight, and is so named because it gives you a pineapple head.

ahah!
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 19 July 2013 20:02 (twelve years ago)
Carl, I impressed with your progress in Curly Hair Studies! I don't do a sleep cap or other wrapping, but that would probably help. Back at home, I admittedly have been known to use a satin pillowcase.
― quincie, Friday, 19 July 2013 22:28 (twelve years ago)
im still totes confused how this method prevents humidity?
― educate yourself to this reality (sunny successor), Friday, 19 July 2013 22:34 (twelve years ago)
xp I couldn't find a good way to sleep on wet hair, by the way. I think it's a combo of the layers and having short bangs, and my hair kind of creasing close to my scalp if I arranged it wrong (made more obvious by the layers) so no matter how careful I was, I'd wake up with half spike bangs or a piece from the back bent forward towards the front that I couldn't get to go back to normal unless I wet it.
Maybe one day with a different haircut it will work, because I sure liked showering at night and sleeping more in the morning.
― Lawyer... SUAVE... (carl agatha), Friday, 19 July 2013 22:36 (twelve years ago)
Yeah I think pineappling works best for longer hair and no bangs. I dunno what my strategy will be once I get chopped to chin-length.
― quincie, Friday, 19 July 2013 22:41 (twelve years ago)
Haircut tomorrow at 2, want to grow this short cut out a bit but also want to experiment on the way and not end up shackled to the straighteners again just yet. This? https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26827377/483DF4E808BC04D503C7268DCD3_h400_w300_m2_bblack_q99_p99_cqcovJIIR.jpg
― ljubljana, Saturday, 27 July 2013 04:05 (twelve years ago)
Cuet! It would require product to keep those bangs out of my eyes I think.
― quincie, Saturday, 27 July 2013 18:20 (twelve years ago)
I dyed my hair using box orange dye to cover up my roots for my Grandfather's funeral, and my hair is so dark! Everyone loves it but me, I'll have to get a picture for y'all once I start wearing makeup again! Proper hair appointment in late August though so I'll hopefully be back to the bright craziness in time for school.

I like that short messy look, R! I think it'd really suit you :)

Cuts for me and Mr. Jaq today at the awesome neighborhood salon in an airstream trailer parked in the side yard of a pub. Generous gin&tonic and fabulous hair on a perfect summer day.
― Jaq, Sunday, 28 July 2013 00:57 (twelve years ago)
Today at the hairdresser's it was demonstrated that I don't have enough hair yet for whatserface's hairstyle as shown above, but I'll persevere. I can kind of flick out the back now - will try that tomorrow, although someone might come and dump me in a TARDIS and send me back to the 90s.
FFM, I'm looking forward to this pic - I have a mental picture of a lovely sultry dark orange.

have you tried using texturizer yet, ljub? i have no idea how it works but it is amazing.
― just1n3, Sunday, 28 July 2013 01:25 (twelve years ago)
I had no idea! It looks as though it's for curly hair, mostly? Mine's straight-ish, but has these wavy frizzy bits at the front as it gets longer, and those are the primary reason to straighten. Also just to add gloss overall, because without layers my hair looks a bit ratty otherwise. Your hair's straight-ish though too, right? Do you use it?
― ljubljana, Sunday, 28 July 2013 01:57 (twelve years ago)
When I was about 20 I was told by a boy that he found me attractive but would respect the fact that I wasn't that interested in relationships, which he could tell because of the way I (didn't) manage my hair. He was completely serious.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 28 July 2013 01:59 (twelve years ago)
ugh that guy sounds like a try-hard loser
nah it's for all types of hair - it basically just gives your hair... texture! so i guess for short hair like yours it be great for giving a bit of volume (you add it at the roots) and aiding in the shape, so the layers and stuff don't all sit flat. good for that sort "sexy" bedhead look. my hair is pretty straight, but i tend to wear it with a bit of wave, the texturizer just stops it from looking limp. also great for updos - 40 pins for a simple bun type thing without vs. 3 pins for the same thing using texturizer.
i use this stuff. a little goes a long way, and i sometimes use a large powder brush to dust it on my roots.
it does feel disgusting tho - really weird, like the powder hitting your scalp feels wet, and then when you touch your hair it feels chalky. but worth it.
― just1n3, Sunday, 28 July 2013 02:12 (twelve years ago)
nb that stuff i mention above is the only texturizer i've tried, so not sure if there are better or worse ones out there.
― just1n3, Sunday, 28 July 2013 02:14 (twelve years ago)
Will look out for it - thanks. I got the Sumo stuff from Bumble and Bumble but it only seems to work if I really trowel it on, and then I'm overpowered by the smell.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 28 July 2013 14:16 (twelve years ago)
This stuff ("got2be powder play") has really dumb teenagery marketing but imo works the same as the BSH stuff at half the price, get it at the drug store or Target or wherever. Between that and some cheapo dry shampoo, I always have nice volume and no sweaty helmet hair (I have either a scooter or bicycle as transpo...in the Arizona summers).

Sorry the BSH stuff is called Powder Play, iirc, both have silly names.
― even the beatles had a coinstar machine in their living room (Crabbits), Sunday, 28 July 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)
ta! will look for it.
10 seconds 2 volume, and then about 3000 more seconds 2 leaving the house while faffing with hair that looks any different from usual. What I need to do is remember to experiment with my hair just before I wash it, so that I'm not such a coward about trying out new stuff.
― ljubljana, Sunday, 28 July 2013 22:15 (twelve years ago)
that stuff is pretty powerful ime

one thing I will say for my cheapass seasalt spray is that it's ideal for making my hair look sort-of-styled on days when I can't be assed washing/styling it

I want to chop mine soooooooo badly, but feel like I have kind of committed to growing it out until I'm back in the States to get a real job and shit, and to have my beloved Gregg with-two-"g"s to do the deed.
Will donate to Pantene/American Cancer Society's Great Lengths program (thanks to ca and jaq for the Locks of Love warnings, which are well-founded). In the meantime, UGH. I just pull it back with an elastic 24/7.

Apparently you can get cheap shampoo/blowouts in Taiwan; I'm holding out for that little luxury. A shampoo/blowout in hothumidhothumid Baja would last approximately 2.3 seconds.

Here's a picture of my home dye job. It's growing on me, but I miss my cartoonier oranges and reds. My hair is the longest it's ever been! Unfortunately it's so fine that you're seeing all of it - wish I had more hair.

It's a little darker irl, this time of night my house is too dim everywhere except where it's too bright
So so so long! It looks really lovely! My hair is thickish, which makes it an extra pain in the ass while long--it takes forever to dry and is HEAVY so it is hard to wear in a ponytail without it being uncomfortable. My layers have grown out all weirdly so that shorter pieces stick out of braids. Really wish I had IO to did my hair and nails every day :(
― quincie, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 05:19 (twelve years ago)
idk ffm, i think the color's still really beautiful on you, even if it's more understated

I def feel better about my hair after reading that article! I don't think I could handle a weave, I get migraines from any high/tight ponytail, I would probably die during the process. Eep. Thanks for the kind words, ladies! I'd like to thank my former employer for laying me off and giving me the chance to just grow my hair like weeds. Haven't had a trim since March!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 14:18 (twelve years ago)
On that note I am in a wedding sept 14 and have a hair appointment aug 22. Do I go and have it cut and coloured a few shades up to my preferred bright colour, or do I keep / touch up this colour and get a cheap trim somewhere? My hairstylist will prob charge me a good $150+ to process my hair after so long away & boxed dye.. But I don't really have the $150. Not to spare. I love my lady but unemployment and fancy hair jobs do not go hand in hand, especially since I have to buy a bridesmaid dress, bachelorette, etc.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 14:22 (twelve years ago)
I guess I made up my mind there!
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 14:23 (twelve years ago)
The color looks beautiful - just get a cheap trim
― just1n3, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 15:41 (twelve years ago)
^^^ Your lady will wait for you! It looks great - get the bright colours into the dress!
― ljubljana, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 22:44 (twelve years ago)
the dress is slate grey! Hah. I picked up the dress today though and it looks alright with the hair. Thanks for all the feedback and pep talkery!
